"just an rsx" I resent that, i love my type s flavored rice. Still though, love this car after reading your rebuild walk through. Too bad the camera can't even do it justice.
i would of expected way more hp with a setup like yours. ive seen 400hp on a streetported s5 t2 and a ported stock turbo. im not by any means flaming on your car because it is amazing to say the least. i was just expecting more hp from it... either way good job on the build and keep up the good work.
400HP could never happen on a stock turbo unless it is a hybrid. And in that case, it's no longer a stock turbo. My car dyno'ed at 320 RWHP @ 13 PSI with no tuning. An hour on the dyno and it put down 392RWHP on the same boost level. I've done a little tuning since then and at the same 13 PSI, it put down ~420 RWHP. Just last weekend I turned the boost to 16 PSI which should be damn near 500RWHP.
it was the stock turbo. it had been ported and clipped quite heavily but it was still the stock blades and housings. it helps that he was using meth injections and a peripheral ported cosmo engine. but like i said either way you still have a very nice car that deserves alot of respect. it takes somebody with alot of time and dedication to fab a setup like yours and you did an amazing job on yours.
I appreciate the comments, but I will still have to contest making 400HP on the stock turbo. It simply is not possible with stock wheels and housings, no matter how much you port the housings or clip the turbine. The compressor is not able to flow enough air. The compressor map is widely available, check for yourself. Running that turbo on a PP engine would make the problem worse, not better since the turbine side would be a cork in the exhaust. It must have been a hybrid turbo of some type.
ill ask him later on today to make sure but i was told it was the stock turbo. it might of been some sort of hybrid but to my knowledge it was the stock housings and stock wheels.
Around 107-109 MPH on average. The car is running a GT4088R currently at 13 PSI. At the time the video was taken it was tuned very rough in boost and made 320 RWHP. After the video was taken I spent some time on the dyno tuning and made 392 RWHP at the same boost. I've done a little more tuning since then and am currently just over 400 RWHP (need to dyno again). This car currently has an open diff which makes good 1/4 mile runs a challenge. LSD coming soon as soon as I get around to installing.
At Sparta they let you run with a passenger as long as you are not in the 13s or faster. I sneak by with a passenger and then let them out before we reach the timing booth. It's just more fun with someone else in the car! Though they made me wear a helmet because the car was in the 13s, yet I didn't see the Mustangs running in the 13s having helmet wearing drivers...
Yep. At the time I was running a worn out crappy stock shifter. I've now developed a bushing free short shifter replacement that makes it feel like you're shifting a Ferrari. No slop, no bushings, and feels almost gated.
Why would I rev it to 9,000 RPM when the power peaks at 8,000 RPM? Also as the video states, these are "test runs" in which the car is barely tuned. I did build the engine safe to rev to 9K occasionally (three window bearings, deep groove rotor bearings, 100 PSI oil pressure) but that's more for longevity then to really rev to 9K.
And that's exactly why I don't have traction until midway through 3rd gear. In fact, if you watch my other 1/4 mile runs video (the one not marked "test") then you'll see me loose traction in 4th just before the trap. I'm not sure what you're getting at here? Are you saying I'm misrepresenting my car? Just Google "aaron cake project tina" for full details on the build. It's currently the 3rd hit.
The car dyno'd at 387 RWHP @ 13 PSI after some tuning. These runs were done with very little tunning (running 10:1 A/F at 10 degees) making 320 RWHP. The low ETs are mainly due to traction issues from the open diff.
haha true that....not to knock aaroncake but wouldnt a 4 port B-port be more efficient....u only made 390 whp on a GT40...ive seen more from street ported 35Rs running a conserative tune...meh good build those definately impressive though!
At 13 PSI. The GT40R isn't even awake at this point. It doesn't come online until 16-17 PSI, at which point high 400s to the wheels isn't going to be hard. The 4 port engine has very little port area compared to the 6 port.
I just rewatched the video and couldn't hear anything that sounded remotely like compressor surge. :-) The audio quality is not great on YouTube, so I watched the original high quality version I have locally. The wastegate is a Tial 44MM, BOV is Apex'I Twin Chamber.

Quote from hondaridinhot "ive seen 400hp on a streetported s5 t2 and a ported stock turbo."
Why are you saying an S5 T2 in this quote but now you're talking about a PP cosmo engine? pretty big difference.

What was your trap speed? 109 ish?
My old skyline got 109.7 with a td06 turbo and about 360/370bhp.
Your rx7 making about 310bhp then?
What sort of size is your turbo compared to say the GT35r, T78 or Rx6 ?

Hm, that's not hard. Almost any car could beat a Mustang. Just go a direction other then straight.

Jesus, your fuel pump is loud at idle. lol. I am actually switching to a 4088r on my 2.3l 4g63. I hear it has unreal transient response. Nice FC btw.

Are you ever going to put a limited slip diff in the car to get better traction in 1st and 2nd?

Yep. It's on the list for this winter. Along with a number of other things.

not bad, looks like a solid 260rwhp setup to be trapping 109 mph, but i expected more from a bridged gt4088.
