And Really even if you dont have Save Options the games are easy

The most challenging of the Classics is probably Sonic 1(The Game Gear Version being even more challengin then the Genesis Version)

All the 2d ones were good. After Sonic Adventure 2(the best sole modern game one IMO). The games started losing quality IMO. But all the games had good concept ideas. But small devolopment windows crushed the quality. Generations is a great game. Although I wasn't for the one button boost(cuz I'd rather the SA2 velocity engine), it stills was fun. I hope they don't drop this engine like they did SA2. I would just like for Sega to take their time and expand on the engine for the next coming game.

The reason why i prefer SA1 to SA2 is cuz the Sonic Stages in SA1 consisted of Speed,Platforming and Exploration

In SA2 these 3 things were split into 3 categories

Sonic/Shadow:Speed

Tails/Robotnik:Platforming(+ some shooting)

Knuckles/Rouge:Exploration

And i didnt see that as an Improvement at all

Ah, plenty of games back then had crappy music. I'd say it was worse overall than today's games.

The problem is so many game musicians were busy wishing for a high-quality sound system. But the Sonic team made these tunes that were perfectly geared for 16-bit. The Megaman team did it too. These tunes were awesome on old systems and were ONLY awesome on old systems. Whenever people try to port the songs to modern sound systems. it sounds bad.

What was once a limitation turned out to be a style.

Oh who am I kidding, I just did not get as much satisfaction from those levels, and the bullshit "Keep super sonic to final boss only" mentality of almost every other game in the series.

Plus, the Big the Cat levels in SA1, and the mech levels in SA2 were completely intolerable. Tails was fine in SA1, but not as good as he was in this game.

I did think the marble zone, ice cap zone, angel island zone and mushroom hill zone were graphically high quality (and the interior sections of sandopolis) but everything else was markedly inferior to Sonic 2. If you compare Metropolis to Flying battery for example - similar backdrops and level design but the graphics in Metropolis, and the animation of the mechanical equipment was much, much more polished and detailed in Sonic 2. As for the Lava Zone, that is the crowning turd of them all...

CG was still in its infancy back then, so of course, its gonna look like total crap by today's standards. I think it's a matter of preference whether you like Sonic1 &2's look or Sonic 3 &K's "natural" visuals. I prefer the latter. =)

@genericsavings I disagree. The Marble Zone, the Ice Zone and much of Angel Island were beautiful - as was the Mushroom Zone. The designers had the capability to create lush backdrops but they obviously chose production speed over detail and quality for Hydrocity, Flying battery (a poor man's metropolis), and the absolutely terrible Lava Zone. Nothing to do with 'CG.' Hydrocity was just lazy visual design as was the abysmal looking Lava Zone. To say otherwise is just ignoring the obvious.

Just because MJ worked on the music doesn't mean its going to be a better game - his involvement was merely musical and I'm not really a fan anyway. The game design is better in Sonic 3 and K and the levels are much bigger but I still believe that Sonic 2 was more finely polished and more memorable.

@SenselessApparatus I agree. Sonic 2 was just so complete and so memorable. It was so polished you could see your gleaming back at you. The music was awesome and really atmospheric. Sonic was superlative and I have always wished they had asked the same graphical artists to come back and do the third one. Something went badly wrong in the graphical department in Sonic 3 that was just so out of sync with series - Hydrocity, the Lava Zone and the flying battery zone were poor efforts.
