duude i was hoping you'd start with that super break with the open hi hat from the original version; i like it very much though, i imagine the real sound of your drums kit cos its a poor recording (ive got the same problem) good job

back to the drumhead's sound, you should take into consideration, that choosing the beater also effects the sound. i use the plastic side of my dw's because it's louder and sharper than the muffled sound which is given by the filt side of the beater. whatever you call it... :D

well, my bass drum has fiberskyn3 heads, the front is more loose than the batter head btw. lately i had to replace them because those fiberskyns were not that durable... i bought a remo black suede batter, well that head is pretty versatile! it really follows your style... okay it might sound awkward, but if you hit it softly it gives a nice jazz dumm, and if you're feeling like double-bass, or heavier beats, it has a great punchy sound! i
