When the bible mentions "rib" the word in hebrew also means "side". Hebrew tradition also says that Eve was taken from the left side of Adam. The left side is considered femenine, so that means that Eve was made from the femenine side of man. If Adam was a hermaphrodite why wouldn't God just take the woman out of Adam instead of a rib and then make the rib into a woman?
