Of course they are not cats and dogs, Pythons are not mammals. The elephant comparison does not make sense, one is an animal kept successfully by thousands of people, the other is the largest land animal. However, lots of people in other countries keep elepants, and they are recognized as domesicated animals.

Large snakes are extremely docile, and most of the bites people receive is from them not washing their hands after handling mammals. I have a Burmese Python, WEISER, she's over 22 feet long. She'll be 23 years old May 15, 2012. Has her own bedroom with a kingsize heated waterbed. I had 2 others over 20 foot but they died, 1 in 2010 and the other in 2011. I also have a 14 foot Albino Burmese and 4 left from when WEISER had a babies in 2000.

The substrate sticks to their skin and while they are out they spread debris on the floor, which is cleaned up later. @NoApologies1000 Royal pythons are great first snakes and you can usually get away with having one in a dorm room if you go to school. Retics are definitely a larger commitment. I'd recommend getting used to handling smaller sizes first and working your way up. Plus, in the next 10-15 years, you'll be moving a lot, and trust me, moving around big animal cages multiple times is not fun.

That's one beautiful reticulated python you've got there, hoping to acquire one of them in the future as well as many other large snakes, currently already owning a ball python as of right now and getting a boa next but it must seem really fun to interact and handle larger snakes that does seem like a lot of fun, have you ever thought about obtaining an african rock or do you have one?

@FreaxxxGetCrunk Actually I think Nagini is a green anaconda. Had this conversation with my friend the other day. We got way too into it, but we thing she was probably a dark green anaconda or a darker morph of a reticulated python... Or, you know, some magical snake we don't know about. >->

Hey man, awesome snake. But i have a few questions. i'm 17 and have never had a pet snake, but my birthday is next month and i told my dad that i wanted a python from him. do you think it's a good idea to get a python as my first snake? and what are some things that i need to make sure i do to prepare for it before i get it? I really want one. I've held some and been around a few because my cousin actually used to have 2 so i'm comfortable around them.

@NoApologies1000 Royal pythons are great first snakes and you can usually get away with having one in a dorm room if you go to school. Retics are definitely a larger commitment. I'd recommend getting used to handling smaller sizes first and working your way up. Plus, in the next 10-15 years, you'll be moving a lot, and trust me, moving around big animal cages multiple times is not fun.

@longdongbongchong Thanks for the concern, but I hunt killers and rapist for a living and spend the other part of my time with cars that are under 49 inches tall and would probably end my life if I was ever to be involved in an accident while in them. Snakes are the least of my problems, they do not carry guns...

how did you get an anaconda? Are they legal for people to own? I never saw one in captivity in private ownership before- although i really am not knowledgable about private kept snakes
