@hockeysteve94 It must be the feel of the stick on the ice. When I tape the blade where he is using the sandpaper, I put tape along there first then I tape it the usual way around. It's just something you do because you like it. Maybe he uses sandpaper so the tape won't rip as much? I'm not sure how to answer that because I'm not Kris. Alls I know is that everyone has their way of personalizing their stick and how they tape it.

I met Kris about a week ago at a signing, when i asked for a picture he just said "yeah." I'm not sure if its because he is shy or not, but he didn't say much. I still got a picture with him though:)

I think he is an AMAZING defensemen, without a doubt the best in the league!

I believe it's to provide better adhesion for the tape. Much like you would sand two pieces of material before gluing them together. Provides a better surface for the tape to adhere to.

do you mean when he uses the sand paper to smooth out the blade? That makes sure that the blade is nice and smooth, so there aren't any bumps that were made during production. when he takes the grinder thing, that makes it so he has a better grip of the shaft.

some players use blade tape, so the bottom of the stick is still polished and slippery.

the sanding makes it more rugged, and stick the the ice fibers.
