well since all the comments are about the game and the movie, I say the game drew influence from the movie; but Im sure liscencing and other factors lead to this not being the official game of the "Stalker" movie. Maybe they just turned the title into an acronym; "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." and set it in Chernobyle... But yes, besides the chernobyle factor, your pretty much playing "Stalker: The Game".
Actually i have never played the stalker games before, then i found out about this movie, very amazing, so much as when i recently found out there was a book, i just had to have it, i don't even read books so often. Recommend this movie!
The book is called Roadside Picnic for you who wants to know, and it cost less than 12USD where i live.
I believe that scene portrays the character who is awaken out of a lucid dream connected to the found artefacts. Just to confirm that this is reality, he drops a stone into the well. In the opening scene of "Inception," DiCaprio awakes on a beachfront with crashing waves. Later on, the audience learns that he has experienced a deeper stage of consciousness.
The game itself belnds in two completely different stories....the story of the chernobyl desaster and the zone. Film and book have a complete different background from the game...there is no chernobyl in there. Its just a zone of unknown origin with weird phenomens. The book hints it was caused by aliens having a "picnic" leaving trash that is just to us like a coke tin would be for ants. But it never comes out. I really dont know why they in the game used chernobyl. Maybe it was the scenery.
Actually, the film is based upon a nuclear disaster in the 50s Russia, could be not as serious as Chernobyl. I don´t know how Tarkovsky could disclose information about the incident as the iron curtain was still in force during the time.
Well, in the first Stalker-game you get to enter the radioactive but crumbled sarcophagus, right? I remember Halflife 1 where you to solve a puzzle even have to swim inside a huge reactor basin...
The book was written 1971. The Film was made 1979. But Chernobyl happened 1986. Well one could argue endlessly over the film and what it means. Watch it. There is nothing regarding a nuclear disaster. It wasnt mentioned in the book and is not in the film. The book got an scientist arguing over aliens who caused the zone. No, its the idea of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R game makers to combine both backgrounds...chernobyl and the books the film is based upon.
Well, I should´ve referred my info about the nuclear disaster to imdb.com - look it up yourself. I haven´t read the book but the synopsis which says like you mentioned, it´s just a sci-fi story. You question the game: all the blowouts that create radioactive anomolies are emitted out of the sarcophagus. In the film the reason why the zone is forbidden is unclear, in the game it´s crystalclear and makes up an interesting idea for a player.
@volunteerz The reason the zone is restricted area in both the book, the film and the game is...that it is dangerous. The game makers added the blow out thing to put the player under pressure. the original script wouldnt make much sense as ego shooter rpg...but as adventure game.
Also, the anomalies in the game, are very much like the anomalies in the book. In the book the anomalies are very dangerous, the most dangerous thing in the zone, they kill most who go into the zone.
the game does have a good bit to do with the movie. in the game stalkers are more equipped for actual threats with weapons, grenades, etc. and there are actual anomalies that can kill you (anomalies, the things the bolt/bandages detected)
but the zone is there, the "wishing room" (it's inside Chernobyl since they didn't want people finding it) is, but there are actual enemies though. but the entire environments and atmosphere in the game are incredibe and just as scary as the movie
Game and movie have nothing in common except basic idea of the zone and stalkers there. The movie is more philosophical and deep when the game is more adventure shooter with a similar atmosphere of the zone. game is very good (and with mods even better lol)
@Gezab Yeah but what he's saying is that the game is inspired by the movie, its also what you're saying. The actual setting though is completely different
truly wonderous,,,creeps inside and blows you away...the most moving bizarre shattering movie ive ever seen... a good knowledge of russia and its history helps immensely i daresay
have you ever played the game, or are you one of those 'im so smart i know about philosophy and media' freaks, i understand saying COD5 is based on the longest day or something is stupid, but i think S.T.A.L.K.E.R did try a lot to get the whole environment thing in ya know?

no, in fact, the movie is made by the book. the strong philosophical themes from both the movie and the book has nothing to do with the game

The game and the movie are both inspired by the novel "roadside picnic".
that is why the similarities. morons.
Frillar 2 years ago 6
@Frillar except neither of them take much from the novel. The game is definitely influenced by the movie.
1qw3er5 2 years ago
but both the game and film are called Stalker, the game is based more on the film than the book as you can see in how they both look similar...moron.
THEFRANKLINFILM 2 years ago
The game is more similar to the book, to be honest. Think about the characters in the game and the characters in the book. Similar sorts.
The book, the game and the film are all vastly different though.

The game is visuallly more like the film.

May I add, that in 1979 no-one could even imagine what shit would happen in 1986 Chernobyl.

and the book its awesome man, u should read it. thats nothing like the movie or the game its even more strange.

@Hren112
Actually, the game is very similar to the movie.
The idea of the "controller" from the game is from the end of the movie, with Monkey.
The idea of throwing bolts to find the hidden dangers comes from the Stalker doing the same thing.
The idea of the "wish granter" in STALKER comes from "the Room"
The idea of the "guide" from STALKER comes from the stalker himself.
etc etc.
