Shoegazing, post-rock, call it what you will...first there was Slowdive, then came Metrotone...jarring, disturbing, unsettling. I remember those years well, 1991-99. Inbetween we were treated to Blur, Suede & Oasis... I said it at the time, I say it again.. ever looked at a Honda C90 sitting next to a Munch Mammoth? Mediocrity alongside magnificence? It doesn't get any better than this.Reissues just hit the shops. BUY!!! And my thanks for this post...BRILLIANT.
@MapsOfJupiter Suede were a formidable band in their own right. I feel as though you're giving Britpop bands a blanket treatment for the sake of loyalty. Give 'em a chance for god's sake. Though I can't say the same for Oasis.. and especially not Blur.
@PanoplyCabaret You have a valid & well-argued point. Maybe I spoke hastily. I saw Suede at Leeds T&C in 1995 & they were damn good; I just recall being annoyed at the time by the sycophantic music press annihilating bands like Slowdive, House Of Love in order to pave the way for nondescripts like Oasis & Blur. Updates on News At 10 on who's going to be No.1 in the Shit Parade? Rock AND ROLL! You know what I mean...
Listening to this with very high fever . Feels like I am drifting away.
