Speaking as a former polcie officer of 11 years, I can tell you without any doubt that public ownership of guns saves millions of lives. Guns are used in the hands of law abiding citizens over 2 million times each year to stop physical harm, rape, homocide and to prevent theft.
I have saved many lives with my personally owned guns, even off duty, and have responded to many calls where a citizen prevented their own death or harm using their lawfully owned guns. How many lives have you saved?
You'll have to back up that claim statistically. The fact that people feel the need to wield lethal force to protect themselves and others reflects the degree of social incohesion across America. You can boast about saving lives, but wouldn't you agree that ideally such situations are better avoided altogether? Studies have shown increased gun control reduces crimes in target areas, and removing a culture built on violence or fear thereof can help produce greater trust and security.
Not a claim, those are facts, backed up millions of times each year. Florida crime dropped when they passed concealed carry laws, as it does whenever these laws are passed. No expections. When Morton Grove IL outlawed all guns, crime increased. When Kennesaw GA made it mandatory that every household had a gun, crime decreased. Yes it's better to avoid it, but until you get criminals to avoid breaking the law, I will defend my life and property with my gun. Again, how many lives have you saved?

In the debate, Obama said "If Pakistan is either unwilling or unable to take out Bin Laden, then we will."
And Clinton said those who responsible for the 1st WTC atacks would pay, and they did not, Carter made the US laughing stock with the Iran hostage crisis, and so will Obama. Obama is a bigger coward than both of those guys, with zero military experience, except what he learns from his Al Queda friend Raila Odinga in Kenya that he campained for in 06, and his terrorist friend Bill Ayers.

All police departments across the nation are expecting riots on November 4th. If Hussein loses, being an NRA member will be paying off big time for us. Us God fearing people not only cling to our religion and constitutionally protected guns, we know how to use them...in self defense of course.

Yes it is. A very sad day in American history. Our founding fathers fought, killed and died to free us from alot less oppression than what Obama wants. We have sent our soldiers to fight, kill and die to stop dictators who were not nearly as communistic and socialistic as what Obama is.

My husband has gone to Iraq 4 times since the war started. Obama will end it in wrong terms. McCain has more experiance to end this war. Alot of ppl just look at the "tax" issue. They need to look at the whole picture.

And I wish people would look harder at the tax issue. Obama, like every liberal, has supported every single tax increase he ever could. His planned entitlement programs will dwarf the Iraq war cots, the mortgage bail out costs, and he will raise taxes the most in world history. This country cannot survive Obama. The ones he claims to be for will be the ones hurt the most.

Your right to bear arms was specifically granted so that in the event your government took away your most vital freedoms, you would be expected as Patriotic Americans, to "take arms" against your government. Even the men who signed the constitution knew that we would we would eventually have an overpowering government.

Wrong again. Our right to bear arms was not "granted" by the constitution, it was recognized as a right "endowed" to us by "our creator". Our rights come from God, not government, according to our founders. You really should try to read the founding documents just once. Collecting and brandishing weapons simply increases the likelihood of murder and for criminals to escape undetected. The right to bear arms is an unnecessary law that distributes the greater capacity to lethal force amongst a population and to justify it on religious grounds is abhorrent. So much for religions of peace.
If you think the public ownership of weapons will help reduce crime rates, then you're insane.

Speaking as a former polcie officer of 11 years, I can tell you without any doubt that public ownership of guns saves millions of lives. Guns are used in the hands of law abiding citizens over 2 million times each year to stop physical harm, rape, homocide and to prevent theft.
I have saved many lives with my personally owned guns, even off duty, and have responded to many calls where a citizen prevented their own death or harm using their lawfully owned guns. How many lives have you saved?

You'll have to back up that claim statistically. The fact that people feel the need to wield lethal force to protect themselves and others reflects the degree of social incohesion across America. You can boast about saving lives, but wouldn't you agree that ideally such situations are better avoided altogether? Studies have shown increased gun control reduces crimes in target areas, and removing a culture built on violence or fear thereof can help produce greater trust and security.

Not a claim, those are facts, backed up millions of times each year. Florida crime dropped when they passed concealed carry laws, as it does whenever these laws are passed. No expections. When Morton Grove IL outlawed all guns, crime increased. When Kennesaw GA made it mandatory that every household had a gun, crime decreased. Yes it's better to avoid it, but until you get criminals to avoid breaking the law, I will defend my life and property with my gun. Again, how many lives have you saved?

I have not saved any lives, and I hope noone I know will ever be in a situation where I would have to step in. Public gun ownership reflects a culture borne out of civil violence. I don't consider such a solution as reflecting a socially cohesive human community, but an unnecessary feature of a human society. Guns don't build bridges between people, they produce a climate of fear. Sorry, but from a British standpoint, I hate guns and I am wary of anyone who carries them.

You just proved how the gun culture is based on fear. Everyone has a duty to protect each other, I just don't believe providing guns. I think it is uncivilised and reflects social incohesion. It is an argument that doesn't work in Britain. Take an example of the Iraq Occupation - plenty of guns to go around but still bloodshed. Weaponry isn't the answer, but education, trust and community bonding is.

I know plenty of UK police. Ask them what they do when someone with a knife approaches, They all say "run like hell". That is not civilised, it is cowardice. Peter Sutcliffe didn' use guns when he killed many women, but 1 woman with a gun would have stopped him. It's uncivilised to not let women defend their own life.

I don't think they'd say 'run like hell'. I'm sure you're very proud of your amendment, but I believe the shift to a more peaceful society involves removing guns. Tasers, shock alarms and simply avoiding being alone at night are acceptable and non-lethal precautions that help the shift to safer society.

I don't care if you have 10 people in your house when you sleep. It only takes ONE man with one of those automatic or semi-automatic weapons you insist on banning, to take them all out.
But, ... that same guy knows he's walking into a house where the owner(s) may have semi-automatic/automatic weapon, ... and I guarantee he'll think twice...
Taking away guns only tells the intruder you don't have any.
Not to mention, outlaws never seem to have trouble finding guns... Illegal or not!

I loved my pepper spray, and the tazer is awesome, but you folks complain about that as well. A peace loving society where noone assaults anyone is a great thought, but that's all it is. It is fantasy. Ladies have no power to stop a rapist, the big tough guy bullies everyone he wants. That is not justice, it is not civilised. God made man, Sam Colt made man equal. When a killer is stabbing your kids, would you want a gun in your hand? It is insanity to say no. Believe, a hug won't work.
