this isn't really true, though -- it was a popular song, written by Yablokoff for the radio in 1932 -- and the theme -- a child dying of cold and hunger in the snow as he tries to sell cigarettes -- is at least a bit unusual for a folk song. aren't there similar versions by the andrew sisters?
I am sorry, but I don't think this is a verry good version. The song has lost it's meaning in my opinion. It should be played in the klezmer way, without this bombastic orchestra. I like it more sober and simpel, but again, that is to my taste. Listen to Zully Goldfarb or Alexander Rodin and you will notice the difference.
I dont want to detract from the performance, but suggest that the soul of the song is lost in the presentation. Take a llok at Zully Goldfarb performing it without the lights, snowflakes, large orchestra and all the "hollywood"trappings. I would be interested in other's thoughts.
Dear Biseps, I didnot read your comment before posting mine, but we have the same opinion about it. I dont like the "hollywood sauce" in wich it is dipped either. I think it takes away the real meaning of this beautiful song.
I plan to download a concert of other yiddish singers. Not show. But I am busy at the moment, perhaps next week or later . Than i will cut with special program this concert in clips and upload on youtube.
P.s. you can search the informations about Efim Aleksandrov in internet ,perhaps you will find more information !
I haven't any idea about the tour of Efim Aleksandrov. Sorry! I saw this concert on TV ! And than I downloaded it . There are other yiddish singers in Russia too ,but just view. They cannot make the big show because of money....

I'm sorry, but with all of the orchestra and the snowflakes, the song looses it's original purpose- to be a children's song, a folk song.

Is this an annual show? When is the next
performance. How much are the tickets in
rublos? I'm telling my friends about this
yiddish festival? Is Efim Aleksandrov the
main singer of Yiddish in Russia today?
