She must not have EXTREMELY dry skin that cracks, peels, and makeup seeps into. Because I can't use a compact pad for moisturizer or ANY kind of powder because powder takes tha little bit of moisture that i can keep on my skin out. And I would take greesy lookin skin over tha way that my skin is anyday.
omg i no how you feel wen i put on foundation it goes all cracked within the hour!! its soooo anoyin ahh!!!! even wen i put a real rich mouistrizer on or vaseline still it goes cracked!! uuugghhhhh sooo annoying !! i HATE HAVEING DRY SKIN!!!
sorry, actually something else I've heard recently is un-pretroleum jelly. sounds funny, but, pretroleum jelly is a great moisterizer (think night time cream) but pretroleum jelly is actually the by-product of when they make oil or gas and un-pretrolem is made from plants.
@LysippeLee Mineral oil is almost the same as petroleum jelly and it is in EVERYTHING. I would wager almost everyone uses it almost every day. The thought of it seems kind of scary but it's not so bad. The bad part is that those things lock in moisture but don't actually provide any moisture - so if there is no moisture you are locking in nothing and it is pointless.
then apply your foundation. Oh, and I slatter my moisterizer on. I've tried several covergirl and revlon foundations, and even the bare mineral make-up. So far my favorite is what I am using now- Revlon auqua mineral makeup, and the bare minerals, though a close second, covered better, not not near as moisterizing. Obviously I'm not fully satisfied and am going back to a liquid make up. Can't wait to try the finishing spray. never used that before.
I have been fighting sever dry skin for over a decade. And I was looking for ideas to try for a new foundation! thanks for the help. here are a few extra tips, or what works for me, anyway. I actually use a lotion (ponds cold cream is awesome!!!, tried other things but I keep coming back to it. Its extremely moisterizing without causing pemples!) and a primer. I've tried one or the other, but get much better results this way. Also, I let my moisterizer set for 5min, then primer, 5 min.
I don't mean this in a bad way, but the technique exactly described is what I have been doing and I still look dry and splotchy. I was hoping for a miracle. Can you describe to me the consistence of the foundation and how much it is, Lancome I know can be pricey.
If you soak your sponge in water first, and then wring it out, then it absorbs less makeup.
Also, you should replace your sponge at LEAST once a week because sponges grow bacteria really fast, and if you don't replace it... well, you get the picture.
Another tip is to get your sponge moist before you use it with your (liquid) foundation. If the sponge is moist it won't soak up as much product, which makes you use/waste less ^^
Awesome tips! I ALWAYS have problems with foundation. Sometimes I do all my make up.. then look in the mirror closely and notice dry flaky spots that just look horrendous! And I end up taking off all my make up :( I stopped using foundation and just use concealer on certain areas but it still cakes! everything cakes! agh! Thank you so much, it's so true that not many foundation tutorials are for dry skin.. it's either oily or perfect skin. Thanks again! have a wonderful day~
Well, this really helped me lol i've been complaining about finding the right foundation or ways to help my dry skin for like months.. and i think i finally did.
I have 3 ?'s First, can u use a primer or base b4 makeup? Second, what if u use a brush to stipple the foundation on? And third, isn't powder bad for dry skin, wont it make your face even more drying?
@mrsalsaidi2008 You can use a primer, but the whole idea of using a moisturizer is to prevent your skin from drying out. It acts the same way as any primer. Yes, a stippling brush can be used, it works just as well. The powder won't dry out your skin, it locks the liquid foundation in place and soaks up any extra grease that wasn't absorbed by your face so that you don't look shiny by the end of the day.
@PrincessGingy You should have mentioned exfoliating your face with a good scrub b4 doing anything to remove any dead skin cells and flakes that can cause your face to look dry. Exfoliate then moisturize is key doing it the night b4 will help greatly. Thanks for the advice.
I've got really dry skin on my cheek areas & large pores. I put a moisturizer on then this face primer base by Mabelline called Instant Age Rewind. It makes my foundation look so smooth! You should try it...I love it!
thanks for the tips! how do u find the cetaphil cream? i do use the cetaphil lotion and was going buy the cream but then i went with impruv since it can fit in my bag.. and also lady said it was good under makeup. havent tried it yet with make up since im severely dry and flaking due to cold winter weather but major improvement in skin. dryness gone and its actually smooth and not rough and dry =)
HAHA, I FEEL SO WEIRD FOR LAUGHING OUT LOUD ALONE, but serioussssly, you're really laid back and chill, it's easy to follow this. Thanks for the tips by the way, I have this problem even in the summer. Keep up the great work.

Try exfoliating! It really helps your face create a bit more moisture and reduce flakiness.
