I wouldn't have even tried playing this song with the hook haha, and it didn't sound bad at all. 16 notes per bar on one finger is a task for ya though. What was the fastest Jamerson did? Darling Dear? I'm about to try and learn this song soon. Been feelin' Blockheads since I stumbled upon this bass line.
Cheers - that's what the hook means (it was Jamerson's name for his index finger!) Dunno who Daviex is! A slowed version of this version or my other (proper) version?
Wow imagine being scrutinised by The Man. I think you do a great job on this, its very nearly there. A bit more top on the bass would have had it sorted.
nice groove, phat tone. i have the same problem with my chair the right hand arm rest is in the way, if you remove it the chair falls apart. i'm thinking of cutting it off with a sawzall.
so damn good! saucy!

Are you playing downstrokes with your index finger as well as the traditional plucking?

@norvegicusbass
Hi - Only upstrokes and hammer-ons/pull-offs on this.
jamersonshook 11 months ago
@jamersonshook Wow you are some player one of the very best on the net. How long you been playing?

hey man, nice take, nice sound!
what kind of strings do you use on this video?
any comments about the Thomastik Jazz flats to string a p-bass for old skool sound?

@Phaidrus
Cheers - these are LaBella 760FM's - this was recorded before I got the 760M "1954" set. Not much difference between them IMHO.
I've heard great things about the Thomastiks but never had a go - the tension would be too low for me I reckon.

Okay, I listened to it through proper speakers, not the ones on my laptop. It's groovy as anything.... Sorry...

This is a good version. Your Precision sounds pretty sweet too. I'm guessing Norman used a Jazz for the line.

Both would be great !

Hook technique is the style James Jamerson played with, right index finger only! Gives a VERY smooth sound with funked up flats on a P-bass.

daviex is this other guy who did a take on the bass for HMWYRS (hit me with...)

well done, quite difficult to do using the hook.

Thanks - I've searched to find a good video of the original by Norman, where you can see him play the whole thing, but no luck yet...

Heh - to be fair it's not a proper copy of Norman's great line - I'll put one up soon...

lewisjankel 4 years ago
... you mean THE Norman??!! He's not gonna be happy with this one-finger nonsense! I should do a proper copy.
