  • what video is this?

  • Perfect

  • Beautiful x

  • I'm not a fan of Editors at all; Tom smiths vocals don't do it for me at all, but this is a great job. Really funereal and sobering.

  • To me Sprouts' Bonny is trurly a sacred song, and honestly I can not even keep listening this one but I think it's fair trying tp respect the effort to make it different, And that's just what it is, another song, totally. After all, the great news is that if we come across something we don't like, we're not forced to listend to it. Just turn the page and that's it.

  • Bonny certainly does not live at home. She fucked off when she heard this shite!

  • @canuckleheadlimey lollin at that, so true

  • I'm not sure about this. The instrumentation for the verse seems to make the song drag terribly, and the transition from verse to chorus - which was explosive in the original - is just ponderous here. Still, interesting I suppose.

  • well done indeed...

  • from where is that video???is this a movie??

  • I like this a lot. Well arranged and great to see the editors have put their own slant on it and not just simply copied the original.

  • This is NOT crap. This is Beautiful.

  • @xcite1x Sorry but it is A1 crap! Are you deaf?

  • This is crap.

  • Shows that ties are for more than knots.

  • Oh boy. All wrong...

  • no1 mentioning sexy pussy dance in the vid?

    niccccccccccccccccccccccccccce

  • Is that from a movie ?

  • This is crap. Some songs are best left alone. For the people who think this is good.......music is obviously not your thing. Try stamp collecting or train spotting:-)

  • @canuckleheadlimey ; YOU`VE SAID IT!!!!

Like Editors but can NOT appreciate this .... BONNIE is best left as she is .... BRILLIANT and PRISTINE..PREFAB rulez !!

  • Great song - Done really, really badly.

  • Oh dear

  • As for my "not knowing what I'm talking about" and my lack of an "open-mind"...Well, let's just say I absolutely LOVE covers, the weirdest the better, I actually COLLECT covers (that's how I got here) because I enjoy how different artists re-arrange other people's works. How about The Residents covering Gershwin? Is that "open-minded" enough for you? Van Halen revisited by solo church organ, maybe? If you're interested, I've got that and more... Peace.

  • Maybe I was a bit too sarcastic; I´ll put it this way: I don't like this arrangement, it's too grave, too dark, too affected. The original is bittersweet by means of its changes in drum patterns between verses and chorus, pure pop genius by a great (and deliciously twisted) pop band. But I respect the attempt (at least Mr. Smith shows good taste in his choice of covers).

  • Its not the best is it .....

  • It´s difficult to spoil a tune this good...but this chap gets quite close. Sorry.

  • Fantastic Song

  • Muito bom , adaptou o seu estilo ao otimo trabalho do Prefaub Sprout e arrasou !!

  • this is my favourite cover of 2008,its truly beautiful and ethereal and does Tom Smith's amazing voice more than justice.

  • Oh dear ? Paddy comeback......please !

  • Aww how can you say that this cover does'nt do the original justice?? i think it's even better:D

  • Yeh EDITORS will be remembered, prefab sprout arent a band to shout about to be honest 'hot dog jumping frog' what the hell???

  • 'the king of rock 'n' roll' was meant to be a pisstake...... they wrote the lyrics as whatever words fitted the music..... they're not meant to make sense

you say they aren't a band to shout about...... paddy McAloon is an incredible song writer, anyone who loves music knows that

  • Okay

  • Class cover ☺

  • LOL IS THAT THE DUDE FROM GOAL 2???

  • so,so.

  • THESE ASSHOLES!!!!! Im sure a sound cover will be next....

  • good rendition of bonny!

  • the beauty of PS was the combination of POP and pathos. this is a little bit tedious.

  • what's the film?

  • As a longtime Prefab Sprout fan, I have listened to (and loved) the original version of this song too many times to count. That being said, I think this version really brings out the true pathos and gravitas that are embedded in the lyrics and the harmony of the song. The original only touches on this. That's what makes it such a great song--it is multi-dimensional enough to withstand multiple interpretations. Great choice for a cover, Editors Guy!!

  • I am a huge fan of both the Sprouts and Editors but I dont think this is good at all.The great thing about the original was Paddys guitar chords and voice plus it was uplifting somehow. This is just a dirge.I love Edidors too but it is a case of rework for rework sake.

  • Very good cover- Editors are a top band...

Captures the pathos of the original song.

Brilliant lyrics written by a genius- inpsired by Paddy's own break up- so the connection remains with him- Nice to see Prefab Sprout inspiring others..

  • Wow. What a great version of this classic Prefab Sprout track. I love it.

  • Aint really listened to orignial but im a die hard editors fan and i love this song... I think the original one is too happy but both good ;)

  • a big sprout fan myself. but have got to give this attempt a huge thumbs up..personnlly i think its intersting to hear great songs in new arrangements when done well and in the same vain as the original.

  • Nice cover but it isn't better than the original.

  • I've been a Prefab Sprout fan for 25 years.

I've got all their albums, the earlier ones in triplicate that's vinyl, cassette & CD.

I don't particulary like most of the bands of today. they all sound a bit samey to me.

So I think I can give an honest opinion of this track. "Its bloody good". But having said that not as good as the original.

As for the musical arrangement it is very simillar to a track on Prefab Sprouts Protest Songs album relase in 1989. namely Pearly Gates.

  • i like this , good , but its hard to better the original .... more like impossible !

  • Not bad, i like it but it's nothing compared to the original.

  • a gr8 cover!

  • i prefer this version because it's so emotional. so tom smith's voice is perfect 4 this song (GOD BLESS HIS VOICE) :D

    i agree with toomuchwhiskey XD

  • fucking amazing cover the original is good but this is totally different and unique

    5 stars

  • Betther than the original hands down! i cant stop playing this song i love it sooo much <3 Tom makes it sound more touching and meaningful, unlike the original! The lyrics are brilliant as well!

  • Of course the lyrics are brilliant - Paddy wrote them !

  • copout cover; ignore.

  • bloody amazing!

  • What video was playing? o.O

  • I Want You (1998).

  • aww tom smith suited for it. Amazing man and voice <3

  • fan

  • im an editors so, i like this automaticaly....haha a love pissing fans of the orginals off :)

  • I PREFER THIS :P

  • fair enough :)

  • I really love this version. What a great tribute to Prefab Sprout.I think it's even better than the original.Tom's melancolic, strong and unique voice gives it a complete different sound, which is very moving.

  • I don't understand why people have to feel so negative about covers. I think that a band does a cover because they like the original version and they want to pay some kind of tribute to that band. How can anyone say that this version shows lack of emotion and feeling????!!!! That person doesn't know a thing about music! Don't get me wrong: I also love Prefab Sprout and I think that if they get the chance to listen to this cover, they'll be happy with it.

  • Beautiful cover!

  • I think they've been quite brave to give it a lush interpretatuion when the lazy option would have just been to copy the original arrangement. Both were/are on the Kitchenware label so I'm sure they wished to do the song justice.

  • Brave!?!?

  • @walJ83 Yes and they also enjoy the smell of their own farts......quite a vintage, I might add!

  • @walJ83 I see people vote you down, but you're so right man..

  • This is my favourite track from the Steve McQueen album. This version is truly awful. They have destroyed a beautiful song. Show them how it's done Paddy!

  • love this song. i dno't know the other version but this its just amazing!

  • who'd prefer this version? try a john cale

    song instead.
