@Ironclaw17 All of these babies were released into a wild family of crows living near the Center's property, with an adult crow that had also been at the Center for treatment of a wing injury.
@847jen Baby birds are good at two things, eating and pooping. Their bedding is changed at every feeding, which is around every 45 minutes. We can't change it out every time someone poops (Every 10 minutes or so), as it stresses out the babies and can lead to them refusing food altogether, or getting sick.
@speedx50 They are fed a specially made goo that contains the protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins they need to grow. It's made from a lot of grains and seeds, dog and cat food, insectivore diet, and vitamin powders.
I love the inside of their mouths, so pink and new looking! They remind me of newborn kittens who also have sweet, pink mouths. A baby is a baby is a baby!
How old were they in the vid? they look so big but still naked.
I like to watch the crows around here, they are smart and funny, especially when they get a walnut off the tree and drop it on the road, if it fails they fly higher and try again at higher heights until they succeed.
@Strawberry7Lynn No, "crow" refers to several types of crow. A rook is a UK bird, and is not a crow, although it is related to both the crow and the raven.
@hpchiquita2 So far as I know in Alberta no one breeds crows, as they are still classified as wild animals. I also strongly recommend not keeping crows as pets, because they are extremely intelligent and demanding animals. Much like larger parrots, these birds require constant interaction in order to stay happy and healthy, and they are very inquisitive and destructive. They are not an animal that can be put in a cage while you are at work all day long, because they will become depressed.
@Raditzwyvern well i could work my way up to a parrot then, i love intelligent animals, should i start at smaller birds and move up? i have the time and money required for a large bird.
@hpchiquita2 I always suggest starting with a smaller bird, and then when you feel confident, persuing larger, harder to handle companion animals. Something like a cockatiel or Quaker, which is relatively easy to care for, but will give you experience in caring for something messy that likes to scream at dawn for your attention. If you have your heart set on crows, you can volunteer at wildlife centers to get experience with these animals, and see if they are really something you want.
@Raditzwyvern Good advice! Crows need to be outdoors and active. I raised a crow a long time ago but passed it along to a woman who specialised in preparing young animals for life in the wild. She had a number of adult birds that were too damaged to be returned to the wild, that took young birds under their wings and showed them the ropes.
@CITYOFLACOMBE They are seen as "pest" simply because they have managed to flourish within human habitats (unlike most animals). They are the most intelligent species of bird in the world. Literally, look it up. They have been seen dropping nuts at intersections for cars to crush with their tires, waiting for the light to turn red and traffic to stop before swooping down to get the inside of the nut. Yes, they are ugly all black birds and loud, but their intelligence is very amusing.
YouTube really needs a WTF button.

A crow's a generic term, which could be several types: e.g. magpie, raven. Those are rooks, I imagine

@Strawberry7Lynn These are baby American Crows, Corvus brachyrhynchos.
