This actually happened for a time when oil prices spiked. Giant fields of wind turbines were erected in the plains. The govt shouldn't be in the business of putting in 15 billion dollar purchase orders in for power generation. Nuclear energy should be our only choice dealing with the energy crisis for SHORT and LONG term support for humanity. The idea that we can not be completely off carbon fuels or Nuclear is the discussion of BIG MONEY who works at the expense of others. That is direct opposition of Government for the people by the people.

I love ForaTV! What a great idea for the workers in Kansas that are fearful for their jobs because of the decrease in sales of jets! Let's get some competion going for this!! I have seen 2 wind farms in Kansas, and hope to see more. I hope to see incentives for farmers who have land to convert over to having wind farms. It beats the thought of many of them growing corn this last year only good to produce ethanol with.

In my opinion, even with all the green energy resources in earth cant compete with mighty scale of nuclear energy. Just look at Iran for example, despite the vast of black gold on their continent, the government still issues some highly controversional for accessing nuclear energy to power their country.

Van is 100% right in theory but the problem is no longer with our concepts... but their implementation.

We know what to do... we just aren't sure HOW to do it.

But I'm confident... especially now with President Obama in office that we can BEGIN the long and much overdue process of looking towards an energy independent future for America.

Van is 100% WRONG.

So called "green" energy is flawed on its most basic level.

Green lacks "energy density".

One nuclear plant produces about 2-3 gigawatts of power, on 4000 acres of land. A wind farm will require 6000-9000 windmills on 150,000 acres of land.

The so-called "waste" is a non-issue. If we reprocessed we could eliminate 95% of it & get 20x more energy. What remains would be much less hazardous than discharge from coal plants. Or chemical waste from manufacture of photovoltaics.

Then I think that you would agree that our current Nuclear technology is super destructive to the environment and mostly inefficient. We NEED to find different ways to obtain and harvest the same amount of energy or more without destroying our environment. Newer, greener jobs will create cleaner ways of extracting that energy. It may only be a fraction of the energy that we obtain from Nuclear but it's a helluva good start.

I couldn't disagree more. Nuclear energy is THOUSANDS of times more efficient than any form of chemical energy.

As for the environment, fNO other form of energy is more benign. The amount of so-called "waste" from nuclear power is a small fraction of the pollution produced by fossil plants.

Even in the worst nuclear accident, Chernobyl, the number of people killed was much less than the THOUSANDS of people who die each year from respiratory illness DIRECTLY attributable to fossil pollution.

Straight up brain fart. But as far as Nuclear is concerned I'm all for it... just so long as it is super safe. I think everyone knows how efficient it is... the question is always - how safe can we make it?

Something tells me there's so many people just trying to push the Green Initiative because its easier to promote than to raise the money to get it all done. People who have the money are being led all over the place with initiatives like this, and it takes a lot out of one camp to bring all that proverbial money over to them. At least the target is out there and is made an option to look at. Now it's up to the government to use Van Jones' words for the long haul approach and get going!

They talk about the money to invest. they talk about eh jobs wit will create. But the one thing that that fail to mention is the amount of energy that it will produce. Which is "not much".

Green energy and renewables fall short of nuclear in terms of energy producing capability by a factor of several hundred thousand. They fall short of coal and fossil fuels bay a factor of ten to a hundred.
