Itachi was never a violent person he believed in peace which is why he always resorted to genjutsu more than ninjutsu it's also why he didn't kill Kakashi right off the bat when he could have done it easily. Now as to why he killed his clan that was for peace as well to prevent war in the leaf village.

If you watch All fights between akatsuki and konoha, you will see that naruto, sakura and sasuke didn't kill any member of akatsuki. Sasori was finished by Chiyo, Hidan is immortal, Kakuzu finished by kakashi, Deidara commited suicide, and Itachi died to disease. Probably kishimoto doesn't want konoha kids to become murderers.

He wanted his brother to get stronger and kill him as a form of punishment for having killed his entire clan and so he could at least be at peace. Now Im not 100% sure but I think Itachi may have been secretly giving Jiraiya info on the Akatsuki perhaps they fought once and Itachi told him I can get you info on them.

@londea88 True but he didn't die by his brothers hand.That changed the minute he learned orochimaru was inside of him. The fight at that point was to drag the battle out long enough so Oro would pop out and itachi could get rid of him while fightin the disease killing him already with pain killers. More or less he was on a time limit during the batlle due to disease, the object wasn't to kill him otherwise itachi could have at anytime if he was serious says it plain as day in manga.

I mean I know alot of people hate Sasuke but I personally like him and I think that the power Itachi gave Naruto will probably be a genjutsu he may have sealed in Naruto to activate and it wouldn't matter that Naruto can't use Genjutsu as it was created by Itachi and sealed in Naruto.

Itachi died because it was what he was planing all along. He never really wanted to kill Sasuke. Also he had a disease that made him weaker, plus the effect of the mangekyo sharingan was making him blind. I cried when he died though, I really liked his character :'(
