Most cars and trucks have one or two extra holes through the firewall for running extra wires. They usually have a rubber gromet through them also. You need to find one of those and run your power cables through that way instead of slamming the door and hood on the wires. Even with the rubber gasket on the door the vibration will cause the power cable to wear through.
Yeah I looked for a pass through on this car, but the engine compartment is so crowded I couldn't find one easy to get to. I usually ride by myself, so not a lot of opening and closing the passenger door. I'm going to do a more permanent install in my truck when I get the oil pump replaced. This is just a temporary solution.
That looks very similar to the way I was running in my Crown Vic. I took it out every night, worried about thieft.
