I have some experience with touch screens now with my Ipad. I have always been a person who values having a clean monitor or computer screen to look at; with touch screens- say hello to the smear fingerprint look all over your screen! No Thanks!

I think it's pretty cool so far, but when I went to change the Metro to the original start menu, it sent me this imprint on the desktop talking about bullshit and it didn't go away, plus it looked no different than Win7. So I turned the Metro back on. I wanna touch screen monitor so bad.
@RevRapidVagabond Plus I like Linux. I like to switch back and forth between Ubuntu and Windows depending on my needs at hand. Downloading torrents and burning dvds works better on Windows for me, but as far as viruses and quickness, I choose Linux.
While im completely ok to make an Os for touchscreens and smartphones, they should also work to improve the interface of windows 7 as well as performance (because some application even to this date don't work very well).

For those who are unaware, the new interface is called metro UI. You can disable it so Windows starts the same way as Windows 7. The new interface was created specifically for those who uses touch screens, to make it even easier to get around. Windows 8 will still look like Windows 7.

If I wanted a phone interface I would use a phone. PCs arent meant to have massive touch screens. They are meant to have mice and keyboards. Touch screens are nice but not necessary. Same thing with 3D movies. ITS NOT WORTH IT. Even apple is doing this with osx lion. Lion is going to look more like the ios. Its sad to see all the really good interfaces turn to the shit that is on smartphones.

I see explorer has a tabbed interface; fine, good. I am highly skeptical of Windows 8's tablet optimised display to function well on a desktop PC; using a mouse/keyboard combo and removing icon interaction will be reductive to ergonomics; something MS should take note of. That being said; we could be moving away from traditional input. I am typing this on a pretty crap keyboard as we speak...but till we have Mass effect style haptic interfaces we're stuck with them.

@PcGameHunter they are trying to tie all thier experiences (Zune, Windows, Xbox) into one similar looking experience, so if you go from one device (Zune) to another (Xbox), it will b familiar and the same. Fortunately for us, we can turn these settings off for a more traditional Windows experience. :)

I bet most people who said they didn't like this interface when windows phone came out had never used it. It's really clever of Microsoft to bring out the same consistent metro interface on already popular platforms like Windows and Xbox. Eventually this will drive up the sales of windows phone and creates a real modern brand identity for Microsoft

Windows is being optimized for tablet PC, but can be used with normal mouse and keyboard PCs too. I see Microsoft is following the trending market, making an environment optimized for current standards. But the bad I see in this is tablets are a trend for ultra portability, kind of like how netbooks were. I don't know many people who still want a netbook, so how will that soon play out for tablets? Whatever happened to the innovation that went into Windows XP?
@916kyle Completely agree. They're far off if they think Windows 8, like it is right now, will sell. It's just a Windows 7 with a built in touchscreen system. You'd have to buy a touchscreen compatible computer for that, and a monitor, etc., it's useless. Now, if they make some kind of device like this Winpad you're mentioning, that's a completely different idea. Even though they're behind because of the new iOS 5, a "WinPad" would establish some competition.

@helehole Same here bro i got a brand new PC with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it's Great :3 but after hearing from everyone about Windows 8 i will stay with my Windows 7 Ultimate forever i won't change the OS never cheers

I like that you can go to regular Windows mode, since that would probably be used more than the rest of what I've seen just now...Looks awesome but could be only used to its potential IF you have a touchscreen monitor or a Windows tablet. Nuff said.

Windows is being optimized for tablet PC, but can be used with normal mouse and keyboard PCs too. I see Microsoft is following the trending market, making an environment optimized for current standards. But the bad I see in this is tablets are a trend for ultra portability, kind of like how netbooks were. I don't know many people who still want a netbook, so how will that soon play out for tablets? Whatever happened to the innovation that went into Windows XP?

@916kyle Completely agree. They're far off if they think Windows 8, like it is right now, will sell. It's just a Windows 7 with a built in touchscreen system. You'd have to buy a touchscreen compatible computer for that, and a monitor, etc., it's useless. Now, if they make some kind of device like this Winpad you're mentioning, that's a completely different idea. Even though they're behind because of the new iOS 5, a "WinPad" would establish some competition.

@Diolocko Windows 7 could be used with a touchscreen indeed, but Windows 8 also has good touch support/integration in standard elements, like the explorer etc...
