I just watched a documentary on Cajun music for one of my college courses. There was a bit with Michael Doucet which stood out to me so I looked him up here.
I'm a beginning fiddle player (less than a year), and my interest had been confined to Irish and Scottish music. But the first time I heard this music it struck me as something I would love to play. I guess it's not surprising that Cajun music has Celtic roots, considering the effect it had on me! It has opened up my eyes to new things.
If you like this Cajun style, and Celtic music, you should check out some Quebecois musicians as well- Yves Laurent & le Bebert Orchestra are exceptional! Quebec fiddlers also rhythmically use their feet (fiddle and feet they say), it's quite captivating!
Love, love, love Michael Doucet - have seen Beausoleil several times in concert, got to play 'tit fer with them at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in 1992 - wonderful person and musician! Five stars!!
I really appreciate your uploading this video. I much, much prefer this version than the one from Michael's cd Beau Solo because it has a fiddle and a guitar, not twin fiddles from two amazing fiddlers.
Oui, oui! Pourquoi tu m'fé t'aimé comme ça?
I'd love to be able to speak the real Cajun stuff, now I'm just making it up!
Eric, this is a wonderful video and I hated to see it end. Je t'adore Michael Doucet, especially with Mitchell Reed. Je pourrais écouter cette musique de violon pour le reste de ma vie.
I'm addicted to Michael Doucet and Beausoleil. Thanks so much for posting this video. Grand Tasso has always been one of the best for the great fiddling.

Reminds me of the genuine cajun breakdown music I used to listen to in Evangeline country. Let's go boys!
