I had one of these done over 10 years ago and swore that was the only time I would EVER let them touch my spine without sedation ! I've had several things done through my back since and I've always been sedated. I no longer believe docs if they tell me it's not that bad. The second one I had they sedated me pretty heavily so i don't remember anything from it. It lasted for a decent amount of time, but eventually ended up with surgery as my entire spine was unstable.
yeah. i agree. I think doctors will almost always tell you the procedure isn't going to be that painful to keep you calm. "you will feel a pinch" ...But man, it was harsh.
She cannot have more than 4 shots a year they tell her, because she is diabetic and the steroids will mess her blood sugar too badly. She is considering just having surgery instead... any comment?
My MIL who is 67 fell and now has pinched nerves at L3, L4 and L5 which have incapacitated her for 3 weeks. She is unable to move her right leg without visible muscle spasms and pain, she actually screams if she has to move this leg.
She has been in the hospital 8 days now, and had the spinal injection yesterday, after an EMG test. When should she feel relief and how long has your relief from the shot lasted?
She ended up having to have neuro-surgery 2 days later, the shot doctor said that he doubted that the shot was going to work. :( That really makes me mad, she spent 2 horrible days after the shot when they could have had the surgery and been back to normal sooner. The surgery took 3 hours to loosen up the nerve from the opening, and she's home now - feeling great! She said she has noodle leg once in awhile though.
nope. but i yelled several times. needles are inserted; fluid was forced into a space that was already blocked up. the pressure was painful, and the sciatic nerve shot strongly
I had my secong injection yesterday. i am feeling a little better now rather than the severe shooting pains I had down my R leg 24/7. Now its just numbness in the R foot! My last epidural lasted me over 2 years of pain relief from dgenerated L5S1 disc.
I also have a bulging disc on L5 that is crushing a nerve and I have had these injections and they are NOT fun, rather painful in fact but BOY, do they help!
ESI's are NOT FDA approved. There are NO steroid injectates that are approved for epidural administration..none!Even the steroid maker warns against it.Google "Depo-Medrol Did It Harm You" and "Arachnoiditis".
hey Tiffany,. Giive it a week to see how you feel. I usually felt bruised, and worse initially before relief came. i also felt sleepy and out of sorts. I expected relief, but not this time for some reason. You may want to try another shot. I'm looking into more options to ease the sciatic pain. Please check into badbackblog from time to time. best, ian
This was great to watch. I'm having my first injection this Friday, after months of no relief from my L5/S1 herniation. I hope to hell this works for me. I can't stand the pain anymore. My life is nothing like it used to be before this latest reinjury. I can't do the most simple things without cringing in pain and it goes way down to my foot. Please tell me that this will help.
the first shot was a targeted approach and brought no relief. The 2nd shot was a soaking of the disks, which brought relief for 2 weeks. But it wore off. Shots in the past helped more, My disks may be more resistant. Make sure you get the injections under flouroscopy, guided. I have written more about my experiences with back pain at badbackblog. I hope you find good relief. I understand your symptoms, i have the sciatic pain down to the foot as well.

what does her dr say ? sounds like if she has surgery at her age, she might need a fusion. My injections did not bring much relief.
But everybody is different. A nerve block i once had gave me relief 3 days after and lasted 3 months until the spams returned. best of luck

glad they help you; i have been avoiding injections for a long time. So painful, i'd rather do anything else to avoid them.

did it hurt?
parodro 4 years ago
yes. it hurt a lot. the pain numbing meds helped a bit. the epidural shots were more painful than the diagnostic nerve blocks I had in the past.
