Speaking of taxes and mandatory insurance, you knew that was going to be the next alternative after you voiced your objections over the public OPTION. You knew that was coming down the road if the option were to be obliterated in order to make health care reforfm sustainable. You knew that, and that's exactly what you wanted because that will go to the insurance companies who line your pockets.

Johann if you are so concerned about costs, why haven't you given yourself or your staff a salary cut. You took in a salary of over $179,000 and spent over 3 MILLION DOLLARS on staff salaries in fiscal year 2009 when most senators spent half as much.

But hey we all know that these huge sums don't even count what you received from the health care lobbyists.

Sorry Johanns but you will not be recieving my vote in the next election. I am one of the many Nebraskans who are considered "uninsurable" because back in June I had an emergency c-section and had my twin girls 2 months premature (which makes them "uninsurable" too. Due to the Eclampsia, I went into heart failure. Now, what are the representives of my state telling me....."Too bad." Hope that blood money you got from the insurance companies was worth giving away your soul.

These Republicans are in the tank for the insurance companies - Big-Time! Why else would they make us pay for the growth that's needed to drive their stock price every year? Without that growth, these insurance company crony's wouldn't get their million dollar paychecks - bonuses and stock options. And the Republicans wouldn't get their campaign contributions. You watch how the Republicans work - their corporate crony's always come first. They even gave them 2 trill in tax cuts to move overseas.

Oh and I applied the Johanns test to the $1 trillion Iraq war which was pure deficit spending, and it didn't improve my life. How about the $600 billion GOP Medicare Part D also pure deficit spending. GOP policies will cripple our children for decades.

Im a liberal, and personally I DO believe in PRO-personal responsibility HSA plans that GOPs love. That's why I say we free small businesses and ditch the employer based system altogether. Every person should be able to purchase an HSA plan for $200/month&$2k year and have all their pre-existing conditions covered from day 1 by a FOR-PROFIT insurer. So, if I have $10k in annual pre-existing conditions, I should be able to pick which for-profit insurer must accept $5500 in annual loses from me

I love how the first example of a family who would lose an HSA plan is a family that would never qualify for an HSA plan in the first place. A FOR PROFIT insurer will never offer a mother with a disabled child, who will easily spend way more than the high deductible every year, a high deductible low premium plan covering her child's pre-existing condition. If Sen Johanns believes in HSAs so much then every person should be able to purchase an HSA plan with $ 200/month premium&$2000 deductible

I agree that I don't believe this plan will help. But if you want to make a true difference and put the Dem.'s on the line: then make the proposal that if this plan is to move forward that all senators and congressman and woman should have to take this plan also.

The only way to tell if they truly think this plan will help is to make them feel it literally! Make a smart move and voice our opinions!

Thank you Senator Johanns for telling it like it is. I do not wish the Federal Government to have a say in my health care needs. Nor do i wish to pay higher taxes.

At the end of my life, I don't want some bureaucrat deciding that my care should be scaled back because I am old or ill.

Everyone needs to step back and give more thought to this issue and not rush through a half baked plan that will not work.

We've debated this issue for 50 years and this Congress has been debating it for 6 months. Very few policies are debated longer than that. Certainly the $600 billion Medicare Part D wasn't. I didn't see conservatives throwing teaparty protests over that.

All I know that the current healthcare is, for the lack of a better word, awful. Why are we paying more for healthcare yet not everyone is covered? What about those people that are suddenly being dropped out by insurance companies for no reason? Should they just be allowed to live without health insurance?
