Just built one for 25$, works great. My chili plants have grown 4" in a week. Bought a 5 gallon plastic box with a lid, drilled some holes in the lid and used an old discarded water pump from an old fish tank.
i've found that everty size increase in hydro is due to the nutrients. I've found the same results if i feed soil plants hydro nutrients. In nature plants are not fed chemical fertilizers. Chemical ferts do seem to make plant leafs unaturally big even if fed hydro nutrients in soil. It all boils down the the nutrients. what the root anchors in doesnt make that much difference where it uses medium or no medium. its all in the nutrients
growing pot, eh? hey, why else would some cat like you want to grow some plants inside your house? why don't you just learn how to grow plants organically without chemical fertilizers? you're just force feeding your plants this way. there's no microbe interaction, no michorizae, no nothing. and why are you making such a big deal about the plants not touching the soil? that may be the future if we destroy the surface of the planet, but otherwise this is just lame.
why would you want to get one of those, there utter shit. get a proper aero system and a proper sodium light and grow some nice green that way, the plants can all but grow about 6 inches in that heap of shit
I have seen the aerogarden grow some decent buds. They were pretty skimpy with the light. If one was to put a 250 W and/or a t5 8 lamp 4 foot CFL there i bet you would get four times the size... The roots would be growing out the sides of the aerogarden and shit haha
why would the light control the bud size when the plant buds grow in the dark. its just how weed works, the plant grows in the light & the bud grows at night! that is why you control the light
sorry for the negativity, but I was thinking if you are doing a sciene experiment, the subject should possibly be a bit dynamic, according to some sayings this would possibly be akin to an experiment in watching paint dry. Hydroponics are pretty cool but, have you heard of true aeroponics, read it in a free newspaper last week apparently they can train the roots to grow to designs (they can grow bus shelters)
Not to be a smartass but aren't all plants are grown with out herbicides? herbicides kill plants right?
Just say'n. :D
Also, yes you can replant into soil from hydro.. It might freak out for a bit but it will take if given some TLC for a bit.. I plead the 5th on why I know that..
If they had made the light adjust higher you could grow full sized plants. ITs better to design you're own aeroponic system than buy this. The seed kits are overpriced. Its good for people who are unable to make their own custom system
They do make a model where the light adjusts higher. It's called the deluxe model and it's only about $50 more. It also has an extra grow bulb as well. There's really nothing else like this that you can build on your own. Believe me, I've tried.
Has anybody tried aeroponics with natural light on the windows sill? YOu could design one for the windows sill. I like the idea of putting one in natural light also.
he'd definately into some bud.. he keeps talking about mcdonalds...nobody even thinks about mcdonalds enless they're ripped..silly science man.. potheads dont need gadgets to grow bud! we're resourceful i mean come on who other than a pot head coulda figured out to smoke out of a friggin apple core?..or a coke can?..we dont needs gadgets, we just need a couple more rips!!
these aerogardens are amazing. i love the product and i love the stock even more. aero is the symbol and it's selling at a bargain right now since the market is so beaten down.
this guy is a retard. he's supposed to be an intelligent geek type? why did he spend so much money on 30$ worth of hydro parts. build your own people, unless your an absolute idiot.
Demonstrate the Aerogarden?..... Well, you pretty much failed to answer the former or succeed in performing the latter although remembering Mr. Wizard was nice. Watch one of his old shows and try this one again huh? :-)
The definition of Hydroponics is growing in an inert soiless medium that contains no nutrients (marbles for example) and with all the required nutrients being in the feed water... The nutrients are made from Ionic salts which is the purist, most refined ingredients you could feed your plants
I have an aerogarden and it is pretty cool. I gave one to my mom for mom's day. It is very easy to set up and maintain. They sell a gardeners pack that you can plant your own seeds which is sweet. The basil I grew is very strong. You can get em @ bihydro*com with free shipping right now. better deal than on ebay. They are great for someone with no experience and great for kids to learn how to grow their own foods instead of depending on someone else.
its a piece of crap system i had one its not really a aeroponics system its just a piece of junk which i returned....if you know what your doing you can build your own system....so dont buy this system...make a simple dft system or a ebb and flow...much better
By the by, this is the first time I've seen you, Mr. Pirillo, since your stint on TechTv with the venerable Leo Laporte. Good to see you back and broadcasting. :D
Hey friend, a small discourse correction, if I may. There is a notable difference between AEROPONIC gardening and HYDROPONIC gardening. :)
One being the level of oxygen available to the roots. In a hydroponic system you actually have the roots floating in a deep aqueous nutrient solution. Aeroponic systems on the other hand, spray fine jets of misted nutrient solution onto the roots as they hang freely with gravity.
I've seen this gadget advertised. Looks interesting. Do you know the ingredients of the nutrient package, and can you substitute something else? Also, do you have to always buy the pods, or can you use regular seeds?
Nice, however I don't know if they make an "aerogarden" for larger things like tomatoes, or for those who want to garden, but have very limited space.
I have an earthbox(dot)com and it is "idiot proof" so you can't over water, and it concerves water as well.
If you're cheap and want to do it yourself, google "earthbox DIY" for plans.
better be heirloom, bro.

Because it's a good way to get started and learn. You're not going to try and feed your family with it.

herbicide is used to kill unwanted plants. selective herbicides kill specific targets while leaving the desired crop relatively unharmed.
