The fact that posters incapable of spelling are nonetheless capable of recognizing what is wrong with this video says a great deal.
Yes, grooming is a health must for many dogs. And, yes, many dogs find the process terrifying. Neither of these truths lends support to the idea that this is either a professional or compassionate way to handle a dog in distress.
At the very least, someone should have been making the attempt to distract the dog with a favorite treat or toy.
Personally I was glad to see a more realistic behavior from the dog. The groomers aren't doing anything unusual or mean. The dog is just nervous. I think my dog acts similarly. He doesn't love it but doesn't hate it or become agressive.
And please don't cut the ears! They need the fuss and longish bits, those are called fringes! They are cute on a Golden. Compare his ear to before please!
The Furmater is a very cruel instrument! They way you use it you are causing this animal pain! Use a undercoat Rake instead! You will even get more undercoat out, ut without the pain, specially around the bony bits! Undercoat Rake!
a stripping knife, or stripping brush is the same as a human thinning scissors used in hair dressers on people with rather thick hair to take out the extra thickness without compromising the length. The dog isn't enjoying it but like people, some just don't appreciate the fuss, but leaving them with a matted stinking coat is much more cruel, I think he looks great afterwards myself, good job!
Sue and Jay are professional and experienced groomers. The dog was nervous but they weren't hurting him, some dogs just hate being groomed full stop. Also, by a knife she means a stripping knife, although if you're not a groomer you won't know what a stripping knife is. Honestly I just love all you experts coming on to slate people doing their job. Half of you people can't spell!
@cazkelly1986 Im sorry but i know since all of us arent exspert groomers then yeah we say what we see and i dont think that anyone ment to make any harm but, we dont know, all we know is the dog looks distressed. Sorry.
I just went to a grooming seminar with Sue Zecco, and she groomed my Golden for her demo, and my dog did the same thing that this dog did, another thing that goldies do is when you get to their tails, they automatically sit down. They are not squeezing the dogs muzzle they are just holding it so that they can do their job.
A KNIFE TO GET THE FUR OUT?! DO THEY NOT HEAR HIM WHIMPERING?! and that dog obviously wants to stop, im mean come on give hima break and some water...
That lady needs to learn how to use the Furminator. It is obvious she is hurting the dog by the way he continues to turn his head toward where she is brushing him ... not to mention he whimpers toward the end of the video. Nope ... she wouldn't touch my dogs.
If you ever get near my golden I would kill you!!!!

Dont be so critical, i have a golden and his fur is so thick that the only way to shave is how she does, i think she is doing correctly

I think they do have some good tips, but I don't understand the purpose of stressing out a dog. My Golden Retriever Sonny loves for me to groom him.
I'm just not a fan of the standing table they're using.

I would not allow these people to groom my Golden. They ignore this Golden's obvious anxiety.

I would enjoy the video better if the demonstration dog was not so anxious. I am distracted by the poor dog's anxiety.
