At first I didn't like it, but another look and I love it, you have to remember that this was the 70s, it was the new space age era, I think it looks so retro and fantastic, a collector would love this car whether people rate it ugly or not.
I believe I know this shape!!! It went into production as the Triumph TR7, based on the Triumph 2000 compact sedan chassis instead of the Ferrari 308 GT V8 platform. This is Bertone's original concept but a British Leyland body style house artist, Harris Mann, drew an off-hand doodle of that body shape the Rainbow prototype exhibited. Mann replaced that straight body side accent crease with a down-swept creaseline that ran from bottom to the top above the rear fenders.
@deepmelody1991 yes it is true, the dino 308 gt4 was designed and produced as early as 1973! the dna for the gtb, only now people are realising that the gt4 is far superior car to the gtb, better buildquality and better handling and looks in the flesh! the gt4 was the building blocks even for the f40 so thank bertone for that!
Looks like a modified X 1/9! Had one for 6 years in the early eighties..Fun to drive, but never got out of the Fiat dealer for under $300.00 bucks a pop!
ahh yeahh!! I have an X1/9, and I love it.. I always consider this to be the "V-8" X1/9, however, in my opinion the Lamborghini Silhouette is more of a match to the X1/9 styling..
Many people think Bertone only styled one Ferrari (the Dino 308GT4), but with this one, there were really two :)
let me guess "78"' x1/9? I had a 128 spider, and x/19 my only problems were breaking of clutch cables of both cars, and release bearing of the Spider. But I got to know the car pretty good, maybe I'll look for a X1/9 project .
Actually, I've had a '75, '76 (in high school), '78 as a daily driver, a CASC-GT race X1/9, '79-'81 parts cars, and today I own an injected original paint '82 with no rust! I've got a Fiat Uno turbo engine for it as well :)..
Nice to see other people with great taste in Italian cars!! Cheers

What happened to this company? They went from beautiful cars in '68 and '70 to mediocre and then super ugly like this one.

From the doors to the rear just looks like they gave up... Cool car though.

The original 308 is still beautiful, but this Bertone creation sucks!

The Rainbow is kept by Bertone at their Design Centre in Caprie North of Turin. Its shown here outside the Bertone factory in Grugliasco

Molto meglio le Ferrari di Pininfarina. Anche la Dino di Bertone non era il massimo

Is it true that it had 308 mechanicals? Were there any 308s in 1976?
