This guy saying that it was New Phyrexia because everyone played infect, is wrong. It was New Phyrexia way before. It was New Phyrexia when Rise of the Eldrazi came out. It was being planned for a long time, and was not being decided by the players, though that would have been neat. Just as Innistrad is probably already halfway done as far as planning goes.

When they planned out the block they planned scars then besieged then they had 2 options for the third and final set in the block. new phyrexia or mirrodin pure. Wizards was not sure which set players would enjoy to play more so they payed close attention to FNM's tournaments and which faction sold more.

Also, idk where you heard that but when scars came out in 2010 they didnt print besieged and new phyrexia otherwise on the bottom of the cards it would say trademark 1993-2010 Wizards of the coast since you can't fake the date something was printed. @ImAKAJenks actually, Mark Rosewater wrote on April 25, 2011about making the pyrexian mana called Phyrexian Powers(google it) where he said that he had planned "New Phyrexia" before time spiral block. To anyone who can use use google this is common knowlege, and after they anounced New Phyrexia it was common knolege that they never planned on mirrodin pure or even built the whole set. Sarcomite Myr(from future sight) was R&D's first attempt at leading us to the Phyrexian Mirrodin.

The sets are not jut planned by one person. some people at wizards wanted to use mirrodin pure and some wanted new phrexia. a friend of mine is on pro tour and i asked him about all this. and they may ver well have planned the set during the time spiral block. they plan sets ears ahead of time and in this case they had planned scars, besieged and new phyrexia OR mirrodin pure.

@MrEnigmaism which also is common knowledge to anyone who can use the internet and google faction packs. why do ou think they would make packs for each faction? wizards has never done somehting liek that before. the answer is because they were testing the waters to see which faction the magic playing public enjoed the most. as the phyrexian sold more than that was a deciding factor. they also checked FNM's to see which faction players were using and using what the learned new phyrexia was chosen

The original idea was for set 1 to be New Phyrexian and continue from where the Phyrexians domminated the plane and the trouble between the Preators, but magic decided at the last moment to make the set focus around the 'war'.
