  • can you beat Hank Hill at grilling?

  • I've never even grilled anything before except a hotdog. This helps me out tremendously.

  • beautifully done, and very informative. thanks!!

  • Aw man, I have to open the grill?

  • you never mention the temp you need to cook the steak on. you say preheat to 500 but then you just say med-high.

  • @lowell191 Having pre-heated on high to approx. 500 degrees, reducing your burners to medium-high will hold the temp. between 450 and 500 degrees. Your cooking grids will retain more than enough heat to sear the steak beautifully, and by turning the burners down, you are reducing chances of flare-up.

  • dude knows his steak

  • A perfect steak on a gas grill? Not possible. NOT POSSIBLE.

  • @buxman28 LOL!!

  • @buxman28 agree! it may be "little perfect" but the perfect one comes from charcoal.

  • Grilling well is like having a green thumb when it comes to plants. Some people have it ; a lot don't. I did a grilling show at the California College of Art. "Art & the Art of Grilling" 500 + hungry people Artist showing their stuff and 4 or 5 Caters . The deal was to show off the Art and grilling as an art. I'm untrained just learned by working. We had the most customers all day long and Trained Chefs were asking me this and that my answer is don't burn it. Not arrogant just real.

  • gr8 tips,, mant thx cnt w8 to try them 10/10

  • How thick are the steaks?

  • wow

  • grilling steaks with gas..... HAHAHAHAHA

  • Screw gas .. charcoal around here !!!! And screw the new york .. gimme some loin steak !!!

  • holy shit that glass of wine looks as big as a 2 liter bottle of coke...

  • @ariownts123 That is actually the proper glass for red wine.the bowl is wide to help with oxidation of the tannins .. the opening should encompass your nose as well...just a little over filled..but with the steak he just cooked..i would want it that filled..so as not to stop for a refill...MMMMM

  • if you are going to grill use a charcoal grill for the best steak you will ever eat just sprinkle with salt and pepper and garlic powder that is all you need to do.a gas grill is more like cooking inside on a stove or oven it sucks.

  • dude now thats a really good looking steak

  • awsome imma try this rite now see if its juicy as he says if it is i love this guy lol

  • Ummmmmmmmmmm, looks good! I'm hungry now!

  • no even if it wasnt non aerosol hed need about 50 of those cans to blow himself up

  • Searing the steak creates a great tasting crust, but it doesn't "lock in the juices." That's a common misconception. Google "the science behind searing meat" for the facts. And if you're cooking over gas instead of lump charcoal then your steak will never taste as good as it could.

  • Marinading wont work on crap steak.

If you bought cheap then you can't do much. Need to buy a jakart tenderizer or hit it.

  • never trust a skinny chef ;3

  • charcoal grilling is the best

  • @dlewis94 Yes, and you are so correct!!! I wish people would understand that.

  • This guy talks as if he's practicing an amazing sports.

"Okay, just one flip left! *sigh* "

  • i tried his marinade it smells like cat urine.

  • The biggest mistake is at the beginning no gas grills:) use ground as base and use natural timber for cooking, it makes all the difference.Im reaaly bog on cooking and it really matters

  • i think he had a lot of steaks :O

  • Rare is the only way to eat a steak.

  • @SuttonSantiniPaulo

    Rare

    I agree

    Rare T Bone

    Heaven

  • .once you added that sugary marinate the steak was ruined. just koser or any other mineral salt plus fresh ground black pepper.

  • Apron look like a skirt..

  • I would never marinate a steak, you are killing the true taste of the meat, hell just ""Knock the horns off and wipe its ass"" lol..

  • @dasmackman

You sound like a true aussie....

Eat it mooing ey ? yeah, hehe

  • no marinating. if you are marinating you need better steaks. He has the four minutes right but you don't turn it at two. Shift to another position at 2 minutes IF you want cross marks. Then at 4 minutes turn the steak. Nothing wrong with gas either. dopes.

  • I stopped listening at "gas" grill, also.

  • wrong moves all a steak needs is salt and pepper and hes using a gas grill yuuck and a steak should only be flipped once just my preference

  • disgracing that angus beef with your terrorist gas :(

  • I stopped listening at "gas grill".

  • Sirloin is NOT as good as rib-eye. Although its full of flavour, its abundance of marbling cannot match that of the rib-eye. Also - through experience - i have eaten quite a few rib-eyes to discover that when you bite into a piece of it - its full of juice and flavour. Unfortunately for Sirloin lovers, this is not the case. It may be flavourful but there is no mouth watering experience when eating Sirloin. PS this has nothing to do with this video - just my opinion

  • Searing the meat doesn't lock in anything, but it does give attractive grill marks on the meat. I use EVOO to prevent the meat from drying out, and use a mixture of celery salt, garlic powder and lemon pepper for a quik dry rub. Oh, and yes, by all means cut the steak to ensure it's done to your satisfaction. Takes a long time to teach yourself the level of doneness by simply stabbing it with a meat fork.

  • i can smell the steaks already.

  • he didnt even cut the steak to let us see if it was as perfect as he claimed

  • that is one big ass glass of wine

  • Great video. Some really good tips buried in there. Would you ever use an indoor grill?

  • ya i definitely wouldn't marinade a N.Y strip steak...

  • Comment removed

  • Marinade? You shouldn't marinade a good steak, I've never heard anyone recommend that before. If it's a cheap cut then yeah. Otherwise no.

  • @metemi Spoken like a true grills men

  • eating one right now!!!! :)

    so great!

  • i hate most marinades

  • "We prefer New York Strips, I prefer the whole cow."

  • This guy looks like he's had one too many steaks.

  • @MadHatter34784

Never trust a thin cook and only let a gay man cut your hair.

  • @MadHatter34784 thats the kinda guy you want to tell you about grilling though...lol

  • @MadHatter34784 Ha, they say to never trust a skinny chef!

  • @MadHatter34784

That's how you know you should listen to this man when he talks about food.

  • thats a big ass glass of wine

  • @beergut66 exactly what i was thinking

  • @beergut66 Well, you know what the doctors say: A single glass of red wine a day is good for you.

  • @beergut66 You know what they say: The doctor recommends one glass of red wine a day.

  • @beergut66 I like beer when I'm working.

  • his time is dead on, but i would recommend changing the order. two minutes then turn from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock, without flipping. another 2 minutes and then flip. two minutes and repeat the turn. there is no need to flip more than once, IMO

  • this guy is making it simple to have an unpretentious (read: affordable and foolproof) steak. my biggest problem is that he flipped the steak three times which inevitably makes it tough. there's no avoiding it.

marinating a good steak is offensive to me but you can't entirely hate on him here because those example steaks weren't terribly well-marbled and simply needed it. a lot of the steaks that average people buy are just like those.

  • marinades are shit. Use a nice spice rub to help create a nice crust, and proper carmelization. Or simple salt and pepper for nice cuts. I would recoment a marinade for say flank, or skirt, and thats about it.

  • i am 14 and always grill my own steak because my step dad burns his to pieces and it taste like CRAP. he should watch this video o_o u

  • my dad does the same thing... except he wont let me cook mine so i just have to choke them down everytime..

  • Why do people always mention their age? doesn't have much relevance in my opinion.

  • @xMxAxDxIxNxIxCxKx See here, this is a kid learning what and how to do things. You're doing the right thing. Don't let anyone burn your stuff, if he wants to eat carbon let'em.

  • This is just mouth-watering! mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • he kinda remids me of Andrew Zimmerman

  • First off thats some Goood looking steak!

But you flipped it 4 times, why choose to do that rather than what most people say to do which is flip only once? Does it make a big difference?

  • The reason he flipped the steak 4 times was to get those diamond grill marks. This is also the reason he paid attention to the 10 and 2 o'clock postions.

  • yea I just was curious if it would make a difference in the actual cooking of the steak or just for appearance, cause I've always heard to filp it only once. Thanks.

  • Actually flyguy you're right. It's best to flip only once. When flipped too much the meat gets almost broiled, not grilled. That's the reason for the one time rule. To get the diamond grill marks with only one flip, do this: Keep the steak on the same side but just rotate it from 9 oclock to 6 oclock, never turning it. Repeate on the other side.

  • Nice :)

  • Great video. That steak looked awesome!

    Casey - GreatChefs

  • Feel like making a steak right now

  • ive grilled with both types, gas and charcoal. i prefer gas because its consistent and they heat up faster. as for the smokey flavour, i cheated using liquid smoke.

although my fav way of cooking is still using a really hot cast iron skillet and finishing it in the oven, less scorched bits and more even browning.

  • DRINK BEER WITH YOUR STEAK!!!!!!!!

  • Not EEEVEN, Red Wine is the way to go with steak!

  • Plenty of beer and a good grill...no steak. Gonna have to correct this oversight!

  • nice cut of steak there

  • The tip on how to judge doneness using your thumb is genius, thanks.

  • thank you for a great video. My steaks and guests thank you!

  • What a great landscape.... and what a gorgeous weather for grilling...

  • now i want a steak and goblet of wine

  • I finally tried this!!!! WOWWOW he is steak king! thanks for sharing!!

  • Thank you for the great advice.

  • god damnnit im hungry now

  • I like to wrap mine in foil after I removed it from the grill.I let them sit for the 5 minutes. The juices flow out because it's still cooking and seasons the meat even more right before eating.

  • great video, just not sure after the grill is preheated to 500 what temp does he mean by Medium -high. I when to the website and stil not clear..

  • It works! Thanks!

  • My grill isnt that great (Fiesta w/ side burner, retail price $129 sale price $109) but it cooks a mean steak

  • nice

  • Forget the marinade. The rest of the cooking tips were great!

. . oh, but forget the wine and substitute a dark ale!

  • he was only marinading the less than choice grade meats, which is a good idea if you want it to be tender...

  • Did he spray the grill with that non-stick stuff. Isnt that dangerous on a active grill? Could have blown himself up

  • He used a non-aerosol oil sprayer. You pump it your-self and they are designed for gilling.

  • @perfectsteak

    grilling not gilling

  • Thanks man! Thats even the exact grill that I use!

  • Lump charcol and a weber.

  • This guy has ate alot of those perfect steaks... Im sure he will keep the fire hot.

Good video doesnt really help me when im cooking on a Walmart BBQ. I better get myself a better bbq to cook a better steak.

  • What a great video! You taught me how easy it is to be a great BarBQue chef. How about another video on grilling veggies to go with the perfect steak?
