I think the reason why sledge is mad at japs is maybe because he starts to fill his fear of being in the war with anger for the japanease just to take his mind off it
Ack Ack was a real leader and a great men. To me it was horrible when he died, it was really unfair. I cried when I saw tough guys like Snafu crie when Ack Ack died.

@Roguearagorn And I thought it was very significant that, when he was KIA, Capt Haldane was covered with a USMC blanket which his father's company had made, directly in front of Gene Sledge, with whom Ack Ack had discussed the subject of his father's business while they talked on Peleliu.
Is there anyway you can post the original death scene, with original audio. I thought one of the most moving scenes in TV history. Shows what it takes to be a leader of men. These are men who fought under the most severe conditions. Surrounded by death everyday. Yet, this man garnered so much respect from them that they broke-down when they saw him dead.
He got the nickname "ack-ack" on Guadalcanal when he and some other marines were taking fire from some japanese snipers in some trees. He took a B.A.R. from one of the marines and fired into the trees with it. After he emptied the gun, three dead jap snipers fell from the trees. After that they called him "Ack-Ack" which is a nickname for antiaircraft guns.
