i wish we had this music around instead of garbage rap. you have to have talent to do this music. instead we have loosers with zero talent like 50 cent, wayne and hog rick ross who are also dead beat dads. those rappers cant play a single instrument.
I absolutely love this song!!! As soon as I heard the song, I immediately started tapping my foot. The song has been featured in quite a number of movies. I am not sure as to the title of the movies, but the song is one that I can never forget because the tune is so catchy.
In 1943 a nickle (made of silver too) to ride the A train, under a dollar for dinner at the local restaurant, under $5 for a week's worth or groceries, $2 to get into the ball park, and a draft card to Germany or Japan free...priceless
HI, it's wonderful to hear from young folks that this kind of music is still appreciated. It was an awesome era, and Srayhorn and the Duke were a great pair. - Brilligant (age 75)
man i wish i lived in that era. This was when America was on top of the world. Not that we are not now but I think it was a much better place to live in then now. Everything was Great about that Era.
A correction - crooner2007 has a "Tribute to Willis Conover VOA Jazz Hour" YouTube video and attributes the "Take the A Train" version to the album "Ellington Uptown". Both versions sound great to me!
Excellent! Perfect! I used to listen to the Voice of America radio station when I grew up in Zambia in the 1970's. My favorite program was the Voice of America Jazz Hour hosted by Willis Conover and this version of "Take the "A" Train was its signature tune. I find this version to be the best. Thanks for the memories.
I know people think some of these Hollywood clips are dated or worst raciest but they are the original music videos. The players in this were all giants so to actually get to see them play their instruments is the closest we will ever get to having a time machine.
im playing this in my jazz band class. im a huge fan of big band, and this is one of the best jazz songs ever written! whatever happened to great music like this?
@jescarpita truer words were never spoken Jes this stuff today calling itselgf music should be shot down its the reason that music sales have gone down everybody sounds the same no individuality to speak of.
Harry thanks for putting this up. It may well be Betty Roche. But there's a Duke CD from a vinyl LP ( Ellington Uptown) Theres an 'A Train' version in it naming Betty Roche. I promise you it'll be the best vocal and band version of 'A' you'll ever hear. Do me a favour, listen to it and let me know your view ?
