  • Very good to know. I've wondered myself how many pounds of beans to buy at one time and store. Do whole beans go stale quickly? Again, it seems from watching your videos, the extraction is really zippy-do-da fast when you pull from an older bag of beans or what not. Didn't know staleness was a variable but maybe you just weren't too enthused with grinding a stale batch of beans properly.

  • @joeldamianicigan Coffee age has a lot to do with it; if you watch our video called PreGround Coffee Aging Test you'll see how much it differs from day to day, same grind, same tamp. There are all different recommendations on storage; we did get some good results on our freezer redux video, although the flavor changed, you could dial it in and get a good shot. - Kat

  • Finally, a SeattleCoffeeGear video I haven't watched yet and an older one at that! You seem to be able to tell by Gail's haircut and the clarity of the footage. Did you get a new camcorder? This seems to be the Gremlin of coffee storage. While I haven't purchased the TightVac or CoffeeVac canisters yet, I would gander they keep the coffee as fresh as this device at less cost to the customer.

  • @joeldamianicigan TightVac tested very poorly -- we are not carrying it. I would go with the Airscape, myself, but I'm not super into gadgets :) - Kat

  • I actually own this, I've used it for quite a while, but after a month or two the vacuum stops working, I don't mean the seal, or the motor, but something just stops functioning, the little button on the top no longer goes down like before, despite having the lid area clean and the batteries new.

  • I keep hearing that you should finish coffee beans about a week after they're roasted. If you use this, does this mean that you could store these beans for months and months while still optimizing the beans?

Before this video, I was just going to go out to look for some air tight canisters.

  • I wouldn't use it for months and months; I think that if you're getting freshly roasted beans, it's still a good idea to use them within the week -- this kind of contraption may extend that freshness period by a few weeks or so. - Kat

  • This thing is neat. I just ordered it from you guys along with a few other things :)
