just a tip, if you want to perform a faster welding you can tack it first then flip on the other side and hit a li'l bit w/ a hammer then rise the machine's temp and weld as fast as you can then hit w/ the hammer again then polish/grind it so it wont form a curve (18ga higher).
It is funny how everyone can do better. I can't weld for hell but I intend trying because there is stuff i need to make around the house. I can arc weld but MAN that is a mess at times. This is a GREAT job. Yes, it is "invisible" as far as i am concerned. Once it is primed and painted GONE... Great job.
If you've got two well-fitting parts, you should be able to fusion weld with no wire, using the TIG. Planish or wheel the weld afterwards, and it shoudl be near invisible, and behave in the same way as the original parent metal. I teach this to people that have never welded, and they can usually do it very well.
this is a simple autogenous pulse weld. the backing plate is a heat sink made of copper and it is using the argon from the tig torch to self purge (that is why the weld on the reverse is not oxidized)i often weld large sheets of st steel using this method but you leave a gap at 1 end to eliminate puckering 6mm gap per metre welded. My ten year son can perform this weld with no problem at all. and as for the finishing. if they worked for me they would be sacked in the first ten minutes!
I don't see what the big deal is. All you do is make a keyhole (burning the edges to make a hole) then fill it with filler rod once you see this. This will give you penetration on the other side. Then grind flat.

Ummmm, so let's see... You made a bead without undercut or underfill then ground the crown flush and finished by blending.
It's a good job, but it isn't invisible.

Yea its not invisible until you grind it. But if you understand heat effected zones on welding, you will see how the weld becomes invisible.

Were welding sheet metal and dealing with the heat zone to make it flat again. If you just use filler rod and grind it flat, it won't be right.
