  • I personally use my rear fog lights. I flash them when someone tailgates, and they back off. Works wonders even when I have my lights on.

  • easy to solve. instead of tapping your break, quickly flash your lights (not headlights) and your tail lights will light up for a split second and the tailgater often thinks it's your break lights, therefore backs off. and it aint dangerous... works everytime. adios

  • Oh, and sometimes I will slow down for tailgaters so they pass me. I was once on the highway, going the proper speed limit, and had a tailgater following me in the right lane. I did not put on my brakes, but instead just let my foot off the gas peddle and slowed myself down to 55mph (I was originally at 70mph). He finally went around me and gave me a look like "why are you driving so damn slow" ... uh, perhaps it is because you are on my bumper and I am trying to get you to pass me!!

  • I always go AT LEAST 5mph over the speed limit and I stay in the right lane, but people still tailgate. I hate tailgaters, especially tractor trailers. I am in a tiny car, going 70mph in a 65mph zone, in the right lane, and in my mirror I see a giant tractor trailer on my ass! It is scary! Sometimes, if there is no car in the left lane, I will get in the left lane and let the tailgater pass me on my right since they can't just go around me like a normal minded person.

  • again casey!!!! u strike again,,,every single video i been se so far ,,,from 0 to 10 i give u a 8.5,,,some body follow u ,on freeway special in big citys or 2 to 6 lanes u may going "SLOW" im may be a driving instructor and my area or move to utah,is noot to far where i live,,,boise, idaho,,,ARE U GUYS HIRING INSTRUCTOR???

  • Oh youtube, where pseudo intellectuals come to hang out and shove their edicks down your throat with intellectual jargon.. Read posts below involving math.

  • shoot him with a crossbow

  • How do you call the police when it's dangerous to use your cell phone while driving?

  • don completely step on the brakes but flash the lights a few times then slow down and let him pass :)

  • Just happened to me on my way home from work. I took my truck out of gear and just slowly coasted from 35(speed limit) down to 5mph. Once I got back up to speed he kept his distance.

  • lol call the police... whot he fuck does that?

  • Very good tip. Thanks. Hey, could you educate the people of "Bonney Lake, Washington," on how to make a left turn where there is no protected left arrow? It is common to see a guy waiting through the green for uncomming traffic (perfectly understandable) but when the light turns yellow they won't roll out so that when traffic stops, they can make the turn. Instead, they wait until the next green and punch the gas, taking the right of way, cutting in front of oncoming traffic.

  • heres a easy way to get away from a tailgater is floor it aka put the pedel to the medal

  • Drive right pass left on multi lane roads is always the way to avoid tailgaters.

  • Calling the police while driving will get you charged for talking on the phone while driving...

  • @Christianite554 hahaha lol so right

  • This is the #1 thing I absolutely HATE about driving. I recently bought some anti-tailgating bumper stickers. They're hilarious, but there have been so many times when I've been tempted to slam on my brakes.

What I usually do when I'm being tailgated is just slow down. Once and awhile I'll pull to the side.

  • @00Mandingo00:

The "Fast Lane" does not mean in EXCESS of the speed limit. It means UP TO the Maximum Speed Limit.

Once again, this is the problem with allowing extremely low I.Q. individuals behind the wheel of a vehicle. They turn the darn thing into a loaded weapon of mass destruction, given their completely clueless attitudes about the environment in which they operate an average 3,000lb mass of killing machine.

Low I.Q. + Drivers License = Perpetual Danger on Our Roads and Highways.

  • @TigerGrumman

In most states, 34 to the best of my knowledge, it is unlawful to travel slower than traffic while in the left lane (regardless of the speed limit). In a few states you can use the left lane if you are going at least the speed limit. The remaining states reserve the use of the left lane for passing/turns. However, regardless of the law, you should have some common courtesy and move to the right if you don't want to keep up with traffic. Stop being a douche and just move over.

  • @D0CAndy:

In all States (to my knowledge) it is illegal to Tailgate at anytime, regardless of the posted speed limit and regardless of the foolish attitude brought to the road by those who drive with only the right side of their brain. Speed, is not the safety concern, here. The laws of physics that govern the stopping distances under threshold breaking due to the need to make an emergency stop, because you were Tailgating, is the primary concern in this particular thread. Suffer no fool.

  • @TigerGrumman

I don't condone tailgating. I was just pointing out the fact that, although you've tried to position yourself as a superior driver and person, you were ignorant as to the proper and legal usage of the left lane. I know a lot of people are unaware of their state's keep right law because it's rarely enforced. However, I picked on you because you seem like such a smug dick. At least now you know that you have a legal obligation to keep up with traffic if you drive in the left lane.

  • @D0CAndy:

You picked on me? You exhibit the typical mentality of a self-centered fool, who cares nothing about the safety of others, rather his own idiotic need to get somewhere 2 minutes faster than he would have while driving with Common Sense; and you actually think you are picking on someone?

Wake up, clown. You might not "condone" tailgating, but your attitude about driving in the "Fast Lane" is precisely WHY you see so many chain-reaction pile-ups on the road today.

    Get a clue.

  • @D0CAndy:

California Vehicle Code 21703 outlines what "Following Too Closely" means. It defines "Tailgating" as following at a distance behind the vehicle in front of you, that is NOT reasonable and NOT prudent for the "conditions of the roadway." Most street level law enforcement officers use the 2-3 second rule. In this thread, I gave my solution in the form of a derived mathematical equation that included the physics of stopping a motor vehicle with an average weight of 2,700 lbs.

  • @D0CAndy:

The physics and physiological (neurological) requirements to execute an emergency stop, is what creates the distance and time differential necessary to avoid collisions in DRY road conditions. This distance must be INCREASED in WET road conditions. You never addressed the math, while pretending as if there was no Law regarding "Tailgating," by wrongly concluding that drivers in the "Fast Lane" must keep pace with drivers in lanes to the right. That is FALSE, Einstein.

  • @00Mandingo00:

  • @TigerGrumman when did I say faster than the speed limit? I think you should brush up on some basic reading comprehension before you spout off about people with low IQs. "Fast Lane" or "passing lane" is just a TERM for the lane on the far left.

  • ONLY total idiots and complete morons, tailgate.

  • @rappytappy:

I like Number 3, I really do. But, in a sane and law abiding (civilized) society, that would make me a total hypocrite. Instead, what I want to see is more Highway Patrol Officers taking the matter of tailgating more seriously and DOING something about it. If the Highway Patrol would initiate Zero Tolerance on tailgating and the tickets started flying out all across the country, then tailgating would be greatly reduced nationwide.

Fines should start at $300.00 absolute minimum.

  • Or in a few seconds you can hit the brakes, no charge in New Zealand for that (animal ran across the road???) You didn't see it and either did they (the Defentant). If you have to stop, well does it need repeating.

  • tailgating is when the car in the back is 12 inches from the rear of the front of the car, I'm so serious some people were super epic at driving and so close that if I throttle lifted I would have gotten hit

  • @AntDX316:

Tailgating is defined as driving persistently inside of 1 Vehicle Length (the length of your vehicle) from the rear of the vehicle directly in front of you. This is the problem I have with drivers in the United States. We don't even bother to educate ourselves on the dangers and we seem to have no clue whatsoever, about the Laws that govern driving on U.S. highways and roads.

Go look at your State's TC. It defines tailgating for you. Tailgating is not up for interpretation.

  • @TigerGrumman it depends on many things like speed, road texture, weather, visibility, traffic pattern.. I'm guessing u don't bother thinking beyond "driving lawfully"

  • Well that was the most pointless video known to mankind.

  • Tailgating is three (3) things:

    1) A violation of State Law (check the TC - Traffic Codes in your State)

    2) Incredibly Dangerous (Potentially lethal)

    3) Incredibly Idiotic (only morons tailgate)

Tailgaters, have extremely low IQ on average. Given the absolute danger involved with tailgating, anyone who engages in such activity, by definition, cannot have an IQ above 55.

Thus, I call for IQ Testing of ALL drivers BEFORE the issuance of a Drivers License. Less than 100 IQ? WALK!

  • @TigerGrumman My IQ has topped 143 at test but I don't tail gate unless I know it's safe and when I change lanes I'm usually in tail gate position but then I drop back cause if I slam the brakes the guy in the back would hit me cause hes tailgating.. BMW 4-disc ABS brakes which is top tier of luxury sedans in braking distance which means cars that only have 2-disc and no ABS would plow me at a high speed brake to the floor situation

  • Idiot tailgaters don't have brains enough to understand the Physics, Mathematics and Neurological response factors involved in the simple task of bringing their vehicle to a full and complete stop. A vehicle weighing X lbs, at 65 mph, will carry Y momentum. The stopping Distance and Time to bring vehicle with X:Y to a full stop, is ENGINEERED into the vehicle! Your brain requires TIME to respond to the need to apply the brakes.

You CANNOT violate the laws of physics without repercussions.

  • All Tailgaters should be arrested and put in jail for 30 days - minimum. But, that would put upwards of 90% of the people on the roads today behind bars, because 90% of you tailgate! A safe VSF (Vehicle Separation Factor) ratio is 10:1.

That means, for every 10 mph that YOUR vehicle is traveling, YOU should keep 1 vehicle lengths distance from the rear fascia of the vehicle in front of you. 65 mph = 6.5 VSF.

This allows enough time to make an emergency stop when needed. Less is dumb!

  • just change lanes but make sure no one is on the other lane that your trying to get in.. and i never knew you slam on your brakes on purpose you could get a reckless drivn ticket wth well i learn something today..

  • @00Mandingo00

I just take my foot off the gas and let my car lose some speed. If im driving with a friend then I ask my friend to take my laser pointer from the glove box and shine it at the tailgaters face.

  • ok. i'll just call the police while i'm driving!! brake hard but only for a second, thats what i do.

  • Where I live I can't call the police while i'm driving!

  • yeh im just hell gonna pull out my cell phone while im driving and call the police. if anything the cops are just gonna give you a fine because your talking on your phone while driving. OMFG im the only one the notice this.

  • A spare windshield washer reservoir filled with oil can be rigged up to great effect, just don't get caught using it. Works very well at night for those who insist on using high beams in your rear window. Beat slamming on brakes, rear facing lights or calling the police. Just be sure to do it on a left turn and they end up learning about momentum and inertia.

  • my driving instructor says to slow down

  • @xoxHugMercuryxox

That just pisses them off even more, pull as far to the side of the road as possible and make it clear that you wan't them to pass you. If they don't pull over and they should go past.

  • @Trustisaliability i always low down, and if they want something hit em with the 40 cal

  • @TRIPLESIXSICCNESS no you don't, phaggot.

  • After watching this video I like the stomp on the brakes teach em a lesson idea better. ; )

Throw old spark plugs out the window.

Let them pass then floor it up behind them then push them the length of the road.

    All Super Ideas.

  • @Cook2430 dont get fresh with me

  • Come drive in South Florida tailgating is a way of life here. The populace also believes that turn signals are a sign of weakness.

  • exept if you call the police youll also get done for using your phone whilst driving

  • What if it's the police tailgating you?

  • @kimeric94 Simple. Teach the cop a lesson ;) SLAM ON THE BRAKES IN FRONT OF HIM causing him to veer off the road & hit a telephone pole. Turn around and get out of the car & explain to him that you as a taxpayer pay his/her salary and have just taught them a valuable lesson. And go get a milkshake as a reward to yourself for a job well done.

  • @kimeric94 then pull over if possible and ask them why.

  • @kimeric94:

In the process of discharging their duty as Law Enforcement Officers/Officials, the Police may use their discretion (predicated on their training, skill and expertise) to drive at distances and approximations to other vehicles, that are outside the limits allowable by Law. In other words, if the police are engaged in "law enforcement," then they may tailgate.

Allowance is given THROUGH the Law and only given to Law Enforcement and Emergency Response Officials (Fire and Medical).

  • @kimeric94 police don't tailgate. And if it is John Law behind you and hears the radio call from dispatch when you call 911, then he will pull you over! You won't be cited, but annoyed!

  • im a professional driver and a mechanic i have racing brakes and i tail gate people all time not because its not safe but because i can stop hell of alot faster then them

  • @jayguy173 You may be able to stop, but the people you tailgate don't have a clue that you've got racing brakes. All they know is that theres a guy in their personal space making them irritated! If you give them some space, they'll concentrate on where their own car is going, so they don't smack into something ahead of them making everybody wait!

  • @jayguy173 Wouldn't being a professional driver include good decision making skills? Like not tailgating?

  • @GrumpyShow That still has nothing to do with the people tail ating your own car.

  • @jayguy173 It was a reply to you comment.

  • lul mu dad sometimes slams the breaks on tailgaters.

  • I know someone who Slams the brakes on Tailgaters all the time lol

  • I've been used to do high speed cruise, when I'm on a narrow road, I was forced to tailgate other motorist when the person behind me follow too close, as I'm motorcyclist if they went too close until their bumber made contact to my wheel, I won't pay any damage to their car, it is scary. neither I overtake front &sped away or let him pass me then front, if front of me is empty then let them pass

  • Is there a fuckin' space limit on youtube? If so, can you send this one out asap?

  • this works...if you're a complete pussy
