Because of an injunction brought by UK-based ATV, which considered the title too similar to their own series The Prisoner, it was originally not possible for overseas broadcasters to screen the show under the name Prisoner, which necessitated a name change. It was known as Prisoner: Cell Block H in the UK and the United States (though this extended title was not shown onscreen),[citation needed] and as Caged Women in Canada.
Prisoner: Cell Block H as it was called in America ,aired on WLVI 56 in Boston,Massachusetts during the summer (winter in Australia) of 1980. This show was great. It would be the last English speaking soap opera I would ever watch. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the many laughs ladies.. Bea was correct about the show being a big hit in America. I watched this show faithfully in Michigan, when I was growing up.
I was in the audience for this, I was sitting right next to where they came out of the barred doors. I'll tell ya what it was so cool to be so close to the cast. I went backstage later and met Val, Carol and Amanda. Such lovely women. Had a photo with each of them and Amanda even pinched me on the bum! lol
Kochie is actually a really nice guy in person. I stood chatting to him for about 10 minutes when filming had finished. We had a good laugh!
I worked in a west end restaurant in the 90's when The Freak was in London-she signed a picture that I had of her on my locker(!!) and also kissed me! (i'd served Brad Pitt also that week, but it meant sooooooooooo much more to me that she was in the restaurant!!) Brill show.
@kerryanne79 agreed. HE is especially a massive cunt. how on earth did he go from occasional finance news reporting to hosting shows? he is completely offputting
the actors for example who played the following judy bryant willie beecham ettie joyce janet conway, and a few more of the cast cheers for your reply.
as far as i know they are still acting on the stage and australian tv i do know that the people who played steve faulkner, ann reynolds and spider are dead
cheers mate if you know what any of the others actors are up to let me know it would be fantastic if prisoner cell block h was to return again thanks once again
i was gutted when it finished in the uk,it finished about 1993 n must of been about 1985 there where the freak got nicked, dodgy sets n wobbly walls but fuckin top entertainment, loved it 2 bits
23 years after the last episode was screened in Australia, PRISONER would still have to be regarded as the highest quality TV series ever produced in Australia. It was a benchmark for drama and the writing, acting and overall production has still tet to be matched. One person who was heavily involed in the writing department was IAN SMITH, who many years later, would go on to play one of the most likeable characters in the Aussie TV series Neighbours, HAROLD BISHOP.
This is great, good to see how everyone is now, esp Bea and Ferguson. Tho in this clip I kinda feel bit sorry for other 3, its like Bea and Ferguson are main stars and they arent getting much of a look in...
Colette Mann (Doreen) doesn't want to be associated with Prisoner, likewise I think Maggie is sick of it now as well. Shame though, Maggie was in it for so long and did musical etc but didn't contribute to DVD release extras
Loved It Loved It Loved It Thanks For Posting This, Prisoner Cell Block H Is My All Time Favourite Australian Drama Series, Back Back Prisoner To British Tv And Release The PCBH DVDS Over Here In England!
why is it aways the same cast getting interviwed? franky was in 20 episodes only!!! why don't they interview someone who was in it longer, like rita conners?
