ATHENA emphasized in Dronedarones good safety profile BUT not its efficacy at suppressing AF.
There should be a head to head comparison with Amiodarone in terms of Efficacy.If Dronedarone will be at least as effective as Amiodarone for AF ,then the latter will vanish from the quiver of drugs against this widespread Arrhythmia!

Well that sounds very good. But the cost of Dronedarone is very high. One 400mg tablet costs $4.50 and 2 tablets are taken per day. That's $3,285.00 per year! Will your insurance pay for that? Also they say that the side effects are minimal but that's what they said about Amiodarone when it was first "OK'd". Now the long term side effects of Amiodarone are legendary. It is too early to get excited about this magic bullet. Good health!
