Becomes problematic when you need to drive somewhere after setting up camp. If you need to go get more supplies and need the truck bed, you need to completely break down the tent and remove it from the truck bed. You're not supposed to drive over 35 miles/hour with the tent setup in the truck. Not a good idea to do it anyway.
I think if you're going to do that you'll mine as well buy one of those campers you put on the back of a pick-up truck. You'd have more of the comforts of home.

lol i've made a truck tent with 3 PVC pipes, a big tarp, and some rope. and it worked surprisingly well.

Neat dea! Another good one is the Flip-Pac that is a canopy/tent for trucks. I have one and absolutely love it!
