@dsteamer100 Once again it appears that the full version of this song has been hit by copyright issues from UMG and has had a world-wide ban placed on it :-( Greece might be an exception.
This is the most beautifully edited video I've seen for a song. A real film noir fest! I don't even mind that the sound quality isn't the greatest. Thanks for such a treat.
Wow! That was great! I came to this listening to 80's songs I haven't heard for over 25 years. I couldn't help but watch all of this in amazement. My wife and I have said for decades that next time we rent a movie, we should get an "old" one. Never have. I watched The African Queen years ago with mom and just watched Dr Zhivago the other day(could you imagine sitting in a theatre for that one?). It's a shame these have disappeared for movies that are just flash, smash & boom.
@dj6927 Get a movie called "Shannondoah" with the almighty Jimmy Stewart. It takes place during The Civil War and Jimmy Stewart in the movie wants nothing to do with the war until his son is taken prisoner by confederate soldiers.
The overall part about this song is about a guy taking a girl to the movies and gets so involved in the movie he forgets about his date only to apologize to her in the end for not being attentive to her. I love the very end of the song when the Peter Lorrie voice over is talking and the film projector finally runs out of film and dies. Without a doubt...a masterpiece!!
@dsteamer100 Actually, a Hepburn imitator. I don't think real sound clips were used, but you hear some great imitations. I like Sidney Greenstreet chuckling and saying, "Very magnanimous."
I love this song in it's full version, when it came out in 81 they would always cut it off half way through - so of course I bought the album......love ya Jon & Vangelis!
I heard this song a very long time ago when I was about 13 years old and was the ``gateway``to becoming a YES fan. A very beatiful voice he was born with indeed.
A nice little mix of images and a great tune. Kids, the movies and people represented built Hollywood. Try to watch some old classics if you can stay awake due to the lack of cgi and explosions. Sorry, these movies are actually story driven.
or edward g and all those guys who always shoot between the eyes btoh btoh ptyah between the eyes, between the eyes btoh btoh pyaw pyaw pyaw pyaw pyaw

@dsteamer100 Would you believe that as a kid in 1987, back in communist Poland I used to listen to this song as it was the first song I heard in Stereo on a NEC cassette player smuggled by my father from abroad.
otally brilliant montage Im a huge fan of 40/50's US & UK films Nothing better on a winters day when its freezing cold, blowing a gale & ur tucked up indoors with lots of snacks watchin a B&W classic & havin no where 2go...pure heavin!! Tnx Again!!!!
i remember this song when i was a little kid....always thought it was awesome... i couldn't figure out what kind of a song it was, it was so different from everything else on the radio.
It took me over thirty five years to find this video/song! Thank you....for bringing back the wonderful memories! Feels like I found a long lost friend!
I wonder if they know the millions of fans we are... I used to listen to this over and over when I was a kid. I think I still got that record somewhere.. Still trying to understand what's this Mr. Cairo all about.. I have internet now so it's just a matter of time or maybe not.
This is just wonderful. Brought tears to my eyes. Love that you used the full-length version of this song. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
First time I heard this song, I was driving on a highway and stopped the car to hear it. The state patrol pulled up and asked what I was doing ... I told them the I was only hearing a very good song ... After that, they did not charged me a fine ... Thanks for the one who created this presentation and, best of all, with the complete song ... Thanks GOD there still area people who enjoy very nice and real music ...
I came to your vid for the song. This was the first album I ever bought and hearing it again is almost moving. The video was a wonderful bonus and now I easily understand all the thanks messages below. Here's mine. Thanks. ;)
"Pretty kind of useless don't you think so!" Youtube has a strict 10 minute limit on their uploads. I have tried previously to upload a complete video but have been refused.
My Dad was a motion picture projectionist as I was growing up, and was blessed to see him at work on many occasions at either "movie houses" or drive-in theaters. Passed away in 1977 at work doing his job, and this song never fails to get me teary eyed with great fond memories of him. Many thanks to you DSTEAMER100 for posting your fanvid and this song...my best regarts to you!
@redpaladin64 I know what you mean, my great-uncle was a projectionist, too. In one of the great old theaters, now demolished and forgotten :(
The glimpses behind the scenes were wonderful! I remember when he showed me the big platters on which the films were spliced together, so all he had to do was start the show and be there (in case..); no more reel changes, which was good because he was getting older. Oh, the magic of those memories!
I have a room in my house converted to a mini theatre with video projector, surround, dim lights, etc...when friends are over this is the intermission video we run for breaks. Perfect.
yes i remember at the time of release, the radio stations in montreal only played it rarely because it was too long...now youtube make us miss the part about the "thief of bagdhad"(douglas fairbanks)
At then end of this song you can hear peter lorrie talk--How can I find the movie in which Peter tells everyone "but you don't seem to realize" I'd love to watch this movie---this is my favorite song/tune of all time--I drive around the mountains of mourne in Ireland were I live listening to this -the music haunts me in a way I can't describe-so beautiful and mistic--then Peter Lorrie and the end speaking before the film reel breaks--what an ending FANTASTIC
Thank you so much for give us this great song. It made me remember lots and lots of great moments in life. I was 18 years old when I listened to it fot the first time, now 46 still as good as then.
I've been playing this song A LOT over the last two weeks, trying to learn it...reminds me more and more of a cross between THE LIVES AND TIMES OF JERRY CORNELIUS and THE ALEXANDRIA QUARTET, floating onto of the Sam Spade books, plus ofcourse the films made from those. The two items mentioned, though, don't work as film
I can't recall how many times I've listened to this song over the last 30 years and every time picturing in my mind many of these same images. A fitting tribute to an old friend, thank you.
Man, my mom and stepdad were having a garage sale. My mom told me that my stepdad had a huge booklet full of random cds that he got for free... take what you want. Among the best of those albums were The Friends of Mr. Cairo and Yes' self-titled debut. this is an AWESOME album, very progressive and still contemporary (for its time), i would totally recommend buying this
This album was introduced to me by my uncle about 30 years ago. ( Thanks Eddie ). These guys were ahead of their time. I will never get sick of listening to this whole album again and again.
I was nine years old when this was release. I remember going to the local record store, asking the guy to play this track for me, I think because of the gangster stuff at the beginning. I sat outside while it played.
Watching this now brings back this and other memories. I listen to the lyrics now and understand the poetry in them.
Wow, thought this song was burried in my tapes for ever ... and here it pops out again ... and then leads to Owner Of a Lonely Heart, which I was just thinking about the other day, to put on to my 'Good Old' playlist ... oh, and the "Don't worry about me, I'm okay" ... what a woman, fell in love with her just for the voice :)
I simply Love this version. I makes it all come to life in an artist eye. I just wish my old neighbor Roy Lofen could see this now. I could watch this over and over. Simply GREAT !!
I agree the second half of this song is the best, i remember this being played by my dad as a kid on the windy road to a new school that i didnt like when living with a family that moved often.
This is terrific, well done and thankyou for taking the time to compile it.
This is a song which has ALWAYS brought tears to my eyes every time I heard it (the second half anyway) and seeing relevant images to go with it has re-awakened my love for this song after a couple of years without hearing it.
En que radio, en que pais en que lugar se puedeescuchar hoy una nueva canción como esta con ese nivel....? Por que las disqueras no quieren producir mas y mejor música, como esta
Amazing montage for one of the best songs ever written and interpreted. Kudos for you, dsteamer100. I´ll go right now to watch the original film clip.
To all that really know this song it has so much lyrical to it more than the video. I grew up 2 this kind of music. I have so many excellent memories,I may have been young but now havr grow. My childhood was fill'd wirh all music! I love the one's that really have a true meaning & this is one of them so plz listen 2 the word'z. I'm ol'school "lol"tryn 2 live my young day'z ? One on one to talk to you like moon light I'll close to you,
You've mirrored my appeal, I want you so, I want to be beside you.
Then you pass by, giving me the other side of you, like the mystics do.
So that every time I move, I move for you.
Soul in light can always see the meeting of true love and she,
This silent night and I, I guess a lonely mind might see.
How often this, how often, this the power of you.
And so I must confess, whatever I do, I meant to be there with you.

Fantasy would fill my life and I love fantasy so much
Did you see in the morning light?
I really talked, yes, I did, to Gods early dawning light
And I was privileged to be as I am to this day
To be with you, to be with you..
I like the second part too.. It's an Intresting music but also the message from the Album asre great.
It was a great fusion Anderson and Vangelis........ I appreciate this concept of musical message

This is a great song.

I went back through the comments, appears I was here before. A chill up the spine, what can I say.

Its about the love of two people man and woman, im not sure god enters in to it but music means what it means to those who use it. :).

This is terrific, well done and thankyou for taking the time to compile it.
This is a song which has ALWAYS brought tears to my eyes every time I heard it (the second half anyway) and seeing relevant images to go with it has re-awakened my love for this song after a couple of years without hearing it.
Thankyou again :)
