I bought this dvd and it's horrible , the concert is all shitty songs and the documentary is basically billy in his pajamas eating colly flower complaining about how he's no longer the shit and can't recreate the past. It's a complete rip off.
i used to love think billy and the pumpkins were the best. and i loved the new stuff too. its not that i didn't want them to change. its the i went to see them in nottingham {england} and billy stormed off stage halfway through the set and wouldn't come back on stage, all because the venue wasn't sold out. how up your own arse can someone be. i don't believe in him or his music anymore.
Listen you ingrates, you are lucky Billy Corgan even started writing and playing live again. Whether you want to call them the Smashing Pumpkins or not, they are still rocking the fuck out. Way better than any of the god-awful crap you hear on satellite radio or on your friends myspace page. I think Zeitgeist was every bit SP as any other album. Billy keeps it fresh, that's why he will continue to be successful long after these horrible musical fads come and pass.
They're probably the only band ive stayed with as when you get older the importance of bands becomes less so and you just embrace music whatever form it takes.
However Zeitgeist seemed to spark up something again as did American Gothic. In a world of such mediocrity and plagiarism i'm still amazed they exist. Whatever Billy throws at me i am more than grateful.
I've been a pumpkins fan for many, many many years. SD onwards. And I've seen them live twice since they 'reunited' if you can call it that.
And as much as I wanted them to be like 'they' were...they weren't. Doesn't help not having Iha and Wretzky. I think what I mean is, they aren't THE Smashing Pumpkins. Just a band using the name. Zeitgeist was resonable.
And it's not 'one' album' it's the feeling there used to be listening/watching them.
dont really know why everyone has to compare his new work to his old work. half the ppl that like the old work only like one album so what is the point. those ppl are just fans of a sound not an artist. you prolly loved nirvana and alice and chains too
The problem isn't the fact that they are trying to do something new, it's the fact that not everyone is INTO what they are doing now and it seems like Billy can't accept that maybe it's the quality of the new work, and not the fans' nostalgia for the old work, that is the reason they are not riding high like they were in 1995.
Lame, but I'm in the promo, and we were interviewed in Ashville - I thought none of the stuff from the Ashville residency would be on the DVD? But whatever I guess.
a lot of people are saying here that billys an ass, whatever.. i'd just like to say that i'm delighted the pumpkins are back i they really are better than ever!! have you seen golw from the spike show!!!!!?????? its the best..
i love billy's music but as a person hes an asshole, my guy used to hang out with him before he got famous and says he became such a dick when he got big....
i mean get over it billy, people loved the pumpkins music NOT the new stuff whats why you had to reform to make money, i saw the poetry center and all the accoustic stuff, along withthe future embrace and zwan, ALL of your new stuff and yes, i prefer the pumpkins stuff way better. if you dont like it, embrace obscurity, because all people want is to see the pumpkins
I love the music in the background. Yay for Billy and his awesome-ness. I can't wait for the release. I'm planning on pre-ordering it pretty soon. And one more thing: I absolutley adore that hat!!!!
What an honest documentary this is going to be. I can't wait to see it. I hear both sides. As a long-time Pumpkins fan, I want to hear the songs that were the soundtrack to parts of my life -- and I want to hear them amped up in that special live SP way; but, I can also understand the needs of teh musician to move towards new valid ground in their own minds.
The self pity stuff gets a bit much sometimes. These are artists making a living creating art for a generally receptive audience. I was really disappointed by Billy's closed-off attitude to the crowd when I saw them on this tour.
"Hello, my name's Billy. I'm your friend. *scoffs* Well, at least I'll pretend to be."
I love the band, but I hope when we're getting sob-story trailers like these that he realises how much of the negative energy comes from him.
well, billy did go out and talk to fans after some of the shows...i think he's still "open"
if they were making music as good as they were before, there would be none of these problems. but the fact is that nothing they are doing now is as good or better than pumpkins 93-98
I agree with the statement of this trailer, but the flaw in their argument is that most of the new stuff doesn't sound like anything except a poor imitation of the old stuff.
I don't need another Quiet or Airplane: those songs already exist. I would LOVE Messrs. Corgan and Chamberlain to go a whole new way. But with rare exception (For God and Country, American Gothic) most of their new stuff is hard to listen to because it feels like an embarrassing attempt at recapturing the old magic.
Also, because I'm a Smashing Pumpkins fan and we talk too much: one of my top 5 Pumpkins songs is a never-recorded pre-Jimmy-era speed-rock epic called Nothing and Everything. I managed to not spend the entire Siamese Dream era complaining that I never heard that track any more... but then that may be partly due to the presence of the Godly Mr Chamberlain and Mr Vig by that point.

if you were the long time fan you say you are you would know that nothing and everything was recorded on some of their pre-gish releases.

Very good; of course that is how I have come to enjoy it. I should have said "never-produced".

You may already have this but there is a studio demo recording of 'Nothing and Everything' on the 'Mashed Potatoes' box set. You can find MP3s here:
