  • I still have all version of Decent install disk even Decent Free Space

  • @knoxhard Right there with you, buddy. Still have Descent, DII, LOTR (Levels of the World), Dimensions, you name it. D3, D3 Merc, the soundtrack. I really was a fanatic for this game!

  • Holy crap, I remember playing this game with my father. TOGETHER. Like, one was moving with the arrow keys (lol) and controlling the Joy Stick (<-- yea we had THAT) and the other one was supposed to shoot lasers and fire rockets.

Fuck, that was awesome. I totally hope they will release Descent 4.

  • @inSanity753 Haha, I can relate! I remember watching my father play the first Descent for hours. Those were the good old days!

  • @inSanity753 Hahaha dude same here! My dad, brother and I would play this ALLL the time. :D

  • i love Descent 3,its more realistic than the other D1 and D2 games,im 12 and ive been playing Descent since i was 3,memories...........

  • @MultiShooter87 I seriously want to build a legacy machine to play the older Descents again. I really want the playstation version again too!

  • @xiayu27 d2x rebirth lets run descent 2 on xp vista and 7

  • @MythVids I totally need this. Oh, and a PCI sound card that I can hook my SideWinder 3D Pro to. :D

  • @xiayu27 i prefer the keyboard =D

  • @MythVids Although I should learn, I really never did learn how to play on kb/mouse. I remember back in the PXO days, playing against guys that ripped me a new one using that combo.

  • @xiayu27 yea i think aiming with the mouse is more precise than using keyboard arrows but i think you mostly 'aim' using slides... every pro who just beats the game on insane difficulty mostly aims with his strafe

  • Descent might be one of the few games that actually make full use of 3D environments.

  • OHHHmahgosh did anyone else LET the little bugger steal the majority of their weapons for the most hardcore fight ever?

  • Descent 1 and 2 brings back old memories, rather than this junk. =D

  • @NadeoKing I really liked D and D2. I really want to get on this D2XXL or whatever it's called but haven't taken the time to yet. D3 was fun as well but quite different from the first two. I liked the addition of the MD, and seemingly environments.

  • @xiayu27

Lol, I got Descent 1 or 2 somewhere in the basement...

I might start playing again... this game was made me popular when I was a kid since no one had it. =D

  • @NadeoKing I am about to dig around and see if I still have my Sound Blaster AWE 32 ISA card. I loved the way Descent sounded with it.

  • is this game cool?

  • @grineti5 this game is probably the only game that I enjoyed playing over any other ground based first person shooter, ever. The fact that you could go anywhere alone made the game a unique and exciting experience. Multiplayer was the most intense gameplay I have experienced in a multiplayer game.

  • gameplay looks identical to that of Forsakken 64

  • @ilbngz I know: they copied this series.

  • Guys, I've got a problem. In level 4 (Korea), after I get out of the train area, and look around a city a bit, a Thief appears - he appears INSIDE of me, and if he get's separated (me using afterburner or moving randomly) he disappears. Needless to say, he robs me of everything I have, and basicly I can't proceed until I eliminate this motherfucker. Somebody help me, please!

  • That sounds like a heck of a glitch! Can you get footage of it?

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, check the video response

  • awsome

  • Descent 2 was the best in the series, imo.

Descent 3 locked me in some small chamber in the first level and I couldn't get out, lol.

  • I'm blocked at the beginning of this level...how I can destroy the tower???

  • The part with the lightning that strikes you whenever you fly outside?

  • Yes!

  • Shoot the middle joints of smaller towers

  • @macacace

Look at the four little towers, they got thin areas in the middle. I suggest you hide inside the building and take the towers about with 1 guided per tower. That way you dont have to run the risk of getting shocked.

  • i wish that they would put this game on consoles

  • They won't. Most people aren't good enough at first person shooters to master the 360 degree movement. -_- And lots of idiots think this is a 'flight sim' game.

Damn, I wish this game got the credit it deserved, it's the best first person shooter ever, and yet, because of the difficulty, it gets no love. :(

  • Word!

This game rocked like a motherfucker and totally went above and beyond D1 and D2.

  • hehe :)

  • team parallax no longer exist...

  • this game is SICK with a joystick!

  • Yeah Descent 3... I love this game :)

My best level is 2nd (prison), 3rd(super thief), 5th(defence), proving grounds (11th or 12th) and of course both secret levels (especially the one with accelerating tunnels)...

I remember i had always troubles in 4th level with metro :P it always killed me :)

And I think last boss in mercnary is more difficult to beat ;)

  • I was never able to find the second secret level (cannot remember the name right now)! How do you get to it? The 4th level was originally my favourite map.

  • "when you get to Level 4 of the map, you will fight a frag rocket boss

instead of proceeding downwards to fight the Spider Bot, turn around and

go back out to the area you came in from. then fight the second frag boss.

this time you will see a forcefield drop on the wall and not the floor.

go through to reveal a hidden room with a data cartridge." D3 by RYAN

  • edit: It's MISSON11: Proving Grounds

  • Thank you, sir. You just forced me to setup a machine to play D3 again with my Sidewinder 3D Pro :D

  • I never played this but I will downloaded asap! I just played the original Descent. The graphics will take a few days to get used to but it's a special game, from an era were great games were the norm...

I can remember the first time I installed it on floppy, my 386 wasn't good enough to play it at good frame rate. I had to play at my cousin's house.

Can anyone tell me how many levels #1 is? And is it worth it playing through # II?

  • Descent will forever be in my heart. You are a good man, haha and I was in the same position as you! I used to shrink the screen size down to 320x240 and below to get a decent enough frame rate.

Descent is 27 levels and three secret levels. Descent II was AMAZING and should not be omitted.

  • Yes even at the smallest size, the game looked amazing, and the laser sound was like watching a big budget sci-fi film!! I played those cinema style games like Cyberia but this was something totally different. The funniest thing is that I think Doom played just fine on that pc, but Street Fighter II did not. I can remember Guile jumping and taking longer to land than someone from Virtua Fighter 1.

I used to play Descent 1on1 over the phone with hyper terminal. Big maps, but still fun. 8-]

  • Haha, I was just the same! My SF2 ran like poop on my machine too that could run games like Doom and Heretic just fine. Descent didn't start to run normal until I stepped up to Pentium class/K6-3 450+ class CPUs. I am feeling nostalgia! Want to build a legacy box with a SB AWE 32 ISA card and play. Or I need to check out that D2-X-XL stuff

  • descent is epic. highly underrated.

  • I remember Descent 3 almost about ten years ago. That Super Thief was annoying, but I finally beat it at the third level in the game.

  • I remember tailing the thief through entire mines in Descent 2. So good.

  • Ohh man you bring back memories. D2 blew me away with the amount of upgrades and enhancements to gameplay they added to the original. I just recently found my Sidewinder 3D Pro and am considering building a legacy box with a SB AWE 32 ISA card to make D and D2 sound amazing.

  • lolz i just used "ivegotit" and launched a black shark in there.

  • ITs sucks there is no more multiplayer for descent 3. It was soooo much fun

  • there's still multiplayer for D3 ... at any given time there is probably at least 1 server with people in it, especially in the evenings.

  • I hit that guy with strong plasma lasers and homing missles and it took the super thief out.

  • battlezone2 is another amazing game ahead of its time.

  • Wow! OpenGL and a pure Linux port! Gonna give this a try. Looks amazing, especially considering it's almost 10 years old.

  • One of the best first person shooters ever!

Still very entertaining, action-based gameplay, wonderful atmosphere. Easily crushes nowaday's bests!

  • at the start of d3 they show a video of the guy in a ship falling towards the sun and there is music. anybody know where to get the mp3 or wav version of that song ?

  • I have the D3 and D3 Merc soundtracks, but I can't remember if the opening song is part of it. I will check for you though. Great to see other D3 fans out there still!

  • cool, thanks.

  • you could most likely open up the cd and find the audio on there if not you might be able to get it from interplay or loki

  • i've looked everywhere, never seen the mp3.

even tried recording with fraps but that didn't work either.

  • Does this game have Guided missiles?

  • Yes. I think they still do the golden damage of 40 points when playing multiplayer too.

  • yep, guided missiles.

actually on one of the levels guided missiles

are mandatory to complete the mission.

you have to fire a guided missile into a small hole then guide the missile to hit a switch.

  • sweet gameplay, Descent is a god. did they change how hard the theftbot was? because im a big Fan of 1, but mostly 2 and they never gave me a chance to face them head on,... if they did i would have blown them to uranus... i also was wondering how you are recording this? and if it works with D2 because i know that they have the in game Demo recorder but i havent found how to acsess them in the prog. file,... if you could tell me how to do that i would be very happy! ^.^ Thanks!,

    Night Hawk

  • He's pointing a camera at the monitor.

  • Nice fight!

I saw at the beginning of the video that you have smooth mouse movement in the main menu, but how the hell did you do that?? I always had 20fps in the menu and a laggy mouse movement, no matter how many different systems I installed Descent3 on (the game itself ran smoothly). If I disable the default fps limit with the "-framecap 999" command line parameter, then it still remains 20fps in the menu, and corrupt weapon effects for the napalm and the vauss when firing

  • I know exactly what you are referring to. I think I had that problem whenever I used Direct3D instead of OpenGL.

  • Thanks for the answer. The funny thing is that the same problem exists under OpenGL too. :-( (for me at least)

I can only use OpenGL, because Descent 3 crashes on my Radeon card (HD3850) if I use D3D. I am completely helpless. But, of course, it is not a disaster, just a bit annoying; the game itself runs perfectly.

  • I am going to re-install it shortly to see if I have that issue on the box I am using now. I have been craving playing D3 anyway so this will be another excuse to. :D I miss pxo but I hear people still play through another service somewhere?

  • Well, unfortunately I don't know anything about the multiplayer, because I have never played it, I'm only addicted to the single player mode (and D1/D2... they are so great, even after more than 10 years!).

I can say that D3 runs perfectly on nowadays' computers with XP or Vista, it doesn't count, the only thing you have to care is to run the game in OpenGL (much better and more stable than D3D) and to enable vsync.

  • My biggest problem has been finding a Sound Blaster that has has a joystick port on it to support my classic Sidewinder 3D Pro. I keep a SB AWE 32 PNP ISA card for D and D2.

  • Hey, question-- how did you fly through the glass at the end? Was it an unbroken pane from when you came in or were you inside the whole time without having to break in?

Just curious, since my style is locking all the doors and luring him outside to play.

Gah, I wanna play D3 now, but gotta finish homework... xD

  • The glass was a glitch I found years back when first playing through it, but I can't remember how I did it! I'll have to play again to give you the specifics.

  • I dont remember what level number the super thief is on. Its a better battle than the Humonculous, because the big humonculous was all up-in-your-face the whole time you were there.

  • Super Thief was level 3 I believe, but that Humonculous...augh did that thing drive me mad. Spewing out class 1 drones and moving incredibly fast. Talk about a tough one! I really have to get this game working on my PC again (with my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro).

  • Thanks, i found it.

  • Humonculous was on Level 6, Super Thief was on Level 3. All you had to do for Super Thief was camp the end hallway door.

  • Camping never has, and never will be my play style.

  • Yeah that suck. Fight on face whole time. I can't avoid it only way go afterburner past face and turn slide around....

  • Wow, this looks like a really good game, pretty damn smooth. I'm a big fan of the 1 & 2 although I'm terrible at them.

  • Yeah, but its hella old!

  • The thief in that level is easy. all it takes is a few homers and good skills with a vuass gun. Now the boss on level 16...

  • ROFL two things with my comment is was level 7 and i finally beat it the day after i just tried it again so plz don't go through the hasel of making a video on level 6 it was the part where to have to walk through the collems for som epriest code.

  • Dude there is one level i can't remember i can't get past it i'm stuck at one part or can anyone help me with it level... 6 i think...

  • lvl 6? I'll try to record it for you.

  • the thief in d3 is a lot easier

  • the combat in this game looks hard

  • When you learn the controls, it is easy and fun.

  • #1 problem with this game is you could not turn off the auto gravity so when you would try to shoot a bad guy your ship would be going crazy with the wall and you could not shoot right. IT WAS LAME!!

I wish they would make the game again the right way. descent 1 and 2 was rad. with no auto gravity!!

  • D3 does have the option to turn off auto gravity. It was the first thing I would disable when installing. :) I bet you would enjoy D3 a LOT more knowing that now if you could play it again.

  • I didn't have a problem turning off auto leveling either. But yeah they should definitely remake it!

  • I ****ing hate Thief Bot.

  • i remember battling the supper theif. 5 black sharks to kill. then i tryed without cheats.i dont wnt to recall that.

by the way for all the weapons in d3 is "ivegotit"

  • do you have "auto leveling" on ?? wow, i have this game, haven't played it for a year now, wow, just seeing it being played in such a high quality video is great!, it's such a good game! nice recording!!

  • I remember when my uncle played decent one... he stuck himself into a wall and then yelled at the computer and broke my old controller... i sill miss that controller -_-.

  • What kind of controller? I used to use the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro (still do) but I lost one of them somehow. Now I only have two left.

  • The old 95 controllers,

Sidewinder pro something, i don't know.

All i know is i have 3 now and have no idea where they are

  • Can somebody tell me how to play secret level 1 and 2? Please tell me...

  • ...oops...accidentally marked fendercenter's comment as spam...

Anyway, what difficulty was it? Given how quickly the Super Thief went down, it can't be Insane.

  • You are right. I put it on Hotshot for this demo. I should make a demo of the PTMC HQ Twin Pyro GL fight on Insane!

  • Good luck with that. For practice, you could try playing BlueDevil on singleplayer. That's much more exciting, I can guarantee you.

  • Blue Devil is more exciting, but not as dramatic I think. There was a certain feel to how the other Pyros were introduced that made it seem more serious than it was.

  • LOL do that!!!! that would be insane

  • i know all the cheats!!!!!! theyre the same from the first!! one word: FARMER JOE

  • Now that's just WRONG...

  • i was a joke bro, and if there was womething wrong with that, then all u have to do, is not put that code in, simple as that. plus, its not even a code, its like a setup leading to other things, but not a code, so your taking this way too seriously

  • I was never really good at decent... i played number one and beat it, but that is it.

  • yeah, same here....

  • now the descent series were classics truly greats pc games.

  • thankx for the vid

  • seems like some kind of starwars metroid game

  • this game was way ahead of its time

  • hey lookie its the game you show me. i would like to learn it but it looks hard from what you show me though

  • I wish I had a "good" pc back in the late 90's/early 00's. I feel like I missed out on a lot of these classics.

  • You still can buy Descent 3. Still awesome to this day. Still look good barely outdate...
