I prefer the local natives cover (yes, yes it's just local natives, not 'the' local natives, but in the spirit of grammatical sense, I stuck it in, so please non raging fan girls). The talking just turns me off & the long start up, just doesn't please me
What's up with all these comments about Local Natives? I've never even heard of them (sorry, guess I'm not hipster enough or something) but I listened to their cover and didn't care for it at all, and I have pretty diverse taste in music... Honestly their version just didn't feel right to me. So yeah, kind of annoying that most of the comments on a Talking Heads song are all about some other band's mediocre cover...
@sarahfication I think most people heard the Local Natives version first. Usually people like the first version they hear better.
I've always loved the Talking Heads, yet I still think the Local Natives did an awesome rendition of this song. There's nothing like three-part harmonies shouting "I've got money now!"
Local Natives brought me here too, but I did already know who Talking Heads were and even have a couple vinyls that my dad gave me. I enjoy the Local Natives version better, but I respect Talking Heads
talking heads are better than local natives. but there version of this song puts it together in an awesome way. of course its less experimental and not the way it was meant to be. but its still very good and easier to enjoy
Local Natives in my opinion did a way better job this is rough to listen to Local Natives makes it soo nice and soft and beautiful I love it....Local Natives all the way. Sorry Talking Heads maybe next time.
@BooUcMe You don't seem to realize that this song has a specially meaning to it. That shitty cover can't even come close to having ANYTHING like the original song. Stop spreading your worthless opinion, and realize what this song is actually saying, then go to the "oh it sounds nice" example. Jesus christ its so fucking agrovating.
@Araclain What you dont seem to realize is that I dont give a shit what your opinion on the song is. Your "spreading your worthless opinion,....." I could give a shit. I love Local Natives and that is the bottom line so if you dont like what I have to say thats fine and good just do not come to me like your fucking opionion is any better than mine. And if you didnt notice dumbass its the same words, same lyrics just sang by a different band. Get the Fuck over it.
I urge everyone who disliked this version to, at least, listen to the studio recording - I assure you, you'll feel more respect for the original version :)
@Meatball200 i've never listened to the talking heads before i heard the local natives version, which is amazing by the way. they are a great band and did a great cover. i didn't even know it was a cover till i looked into it more deeply. great song. i prefer local natives though. talking heads are a little too out there for me. but, still good.
I'd like to thank everyone for your approval. Who would have known that my spontaneous idea to lie down in some reeds with my headphones on would have sparked so much interest and enjoyment. I am David Byrne. We are all David Byrne. We are all the grass. The grass moves to the rhythm of nature's beat. And that beat moves to the rhythm of your soul.
Ok so we all know Byrne's lyrics explore the archetypal troubled artist persona and feature and a romanticising of the mundane, which you've taken up here in your video and quirky manifesto, but it doesn't make you him. You are not him just because someone said something nice to you on the internet. Don't be so arrogant.
I think that would've been a valid put-down if he hadn't thrown in "We are all David Byrne", which suggests that he means that we are all with one with nature or each other or whatever. I don't get what he means, but I don't think he's comparing himself to David Byrne.
Yeah, but David Byrne isn't god or whatever. He's just a guy.
Also, there's an old black and white Warning Sign video clip (Talking Heads at CBGBs-Warning Sign) that involves flicking between different perspectives of the band playing that isn't too conceptually different to this "music video."
Look, this video isn't terribly original or creative, and normally I wouldn't care because its youtube, but the guy who filmed it is talking like a bit of a wanker.
I wouldn't make judgements on people based on what they wrIte on the internet. Maybe JoePaull serves homeless people free dinners when not writing mildly obnoxious comments on YouTube. It's difficult enough to come across the way you want to without the aid of intonation or body language, which may have made his comment seem less pretentious and "out there".
Thank you FirmGoose. Much respect to your comment. I am by no means an internet fcuk face trying to voice pretentious dialogue here. I just want to make videos for people to enjoy. Thats all. David Byrne speaks to me like a trip whacked real deal conversation. Much Love
What an excellent live version of this song, one of their best, thanks for putting this on - I've found three videos today I've previously not seen, just when I thought I'd seen just about every recorded Talking Heads video there was to see. There are no adequate superlatives ...
