Who wouldn't want to be hit by those movements? Seriously, one hit and just imagine all the information that you could learn! :D I want to be hit once by him......softly xD
Having read a couple of the books, I found them very interesting! Also very interesting is the combination and close association with other forms and / or physiologies; all leading in the same direction!
Just in case many of you are not aware of who Master Yang is, he also has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineer so his title of Dr. is not some made up honorific. Of all the martial art masters I've met, he is the most unassuming and the nicests. If you met him on the street, you would have thought he was some gentle old grandfather instead of someone who could teach you the meaning of real pain.
great. just great stuff. i wish karate people would see this and trace their roots back and realise what kata was really meant for. so many smiliar/exact movements and applications. thank you
Cindy, again..thank you so much! I have no film footage of my Master Tsou, other than a short sample of his Chang Chuen, in this eposoide...I am Steven, Henry Gongs, and Master Tsou's student...I was also participating, learning, there too! Lovely surprise, I worked at Da Jarm Construction where the seminar took place, it really blew me away to see this video!!! Shot in the late 1980's...
I view chi as an umbrella term for a lot of natural forces which were not properly defined at the time. Things like gravity, inertia, mass, centripetal and centrifugal force. Probably many hundreds of forces which we take for granted today were intuited by the ancient masters along with bodily processes; that which worked was kept and that which did not was discarded. One thing I know for sure is that everything in chinese martial arts is there for a reason, these people were very skilled.
What kind of substantial evidence is there for the existence of chi energy? It's not my intention to debunk, I am just curious because I'm not aware of any peer-reviewed data on the subject that can't be explained by already-understood physiological processes.
I'm curious mostly because from Tai Chi there does seem to be some kind of effect taking place that is palpable. What is it?
If I may provide what I know, it is my impression that Chi is the bioelectricity, the main energy that is the electricity of the physical body that the brain and the nervous system use. It is my impression that in Qigong, it is believed that the Yi Mind's Intent (Subconcious focus) leads or directs the bioelectricity through the body.
Whatever Chi actually is, there is one thing for certain. Practice Qigong dilligently and practice Yi Intent and you will soon see personal proof.
@zapproowsdower First, understand that Chi or Prana Lifeforce Energy is very real and extremely effective at many various tasks. The Wisdom of the Ancients will always fall under scrutiny. The only real proof is self experience and realization.
you know there are a lot of theories trying to explain chi to the westerners. what i like the best is the adrenalin theory, which basicly says that chi are the drugs like adrenalin which make you strong in a dangerous situation. I think with training, you will be able to controll your body better, your body can move more freely when you are in danger.
Evidence for bioelectricity? That is proven to be how muscles work since they galvanically made frog legs jump. The question of whether conscious(or subconscious) control and regulation of this bioelectricity is possible is the real issue.
There is enough evidence, from the skills of professional athletes to the 'fight science' series from NatGeo, to convince me even if I didn't have personal conviction that Chi works fine.
Guys like him have such a big potential for fighting, but why don't they do it?
It won't be as easy as running forms or demonstrating but with some practice they could bring their internal and external abilities into real application. It's easier not to...
The reason why is that people get hurt. As martial artists we are taught to use it for self defense only and not to show off. It's about protecting the family and saving lives not competition.
I have studied yang for about 16 years, I do not hurt. he is right, I know all his forms, I do not use them, to learn you must not hurt. I have never had to hurt a person yet, maybe put down, by pressure points only, yes the cops came and well, he was drunk and did not kill anyone. Thanks to the study of this I had the ablity to stop and not the urge to hurt. Once you learn this guys form, there is no reason to hurt, A person pulled a gun on me and I took it
I've got 2 of this guys books. He a freaking genius, very educated in both eastern and western. A pleasure even to be on the same planet as someone like this...
Xie Xie Ni for posting this. I have a few of Yang Sifu's books and I've always respected him, also love the fact that this video shows Yang style at combat speed. People need to realize that it isnt just what most over here in the west know. It is a martial art. Again thanks. *Bows*

6:14 min. you got to appreciate his honesty ;)
but serious: great respect for his work....he isn't one of those "eastern masters" who mystify the whole thing.
i like his (overall...) no-nonsense approach.
