COngratulations to Rollando. He deserves a great deal for such courage.. His technique is totally solid and the one blip someone else mentions is a natural part of that passagio moment when phlegm or dryness gets to a singer. Vienna is dry and it is NOT easy to just kneel and sing the hardest part of this aria. GOOD FOR YOU ROLANDO AND WELCOME BACK! WE NEED AND LOVE YOU. CV

@lavanessadivina That's definitely not phlegm. He sounds better than before his troubles, but he's still singing wide open and there is a lot of pressure on the chords. For me, it makes me a little uneasy listening to it.

And here finally it's Rolando Villazon. The real Villazon. In person! Such a searching and delicately nuanced interpretation. The production looks odd (and this is all I've seen, so perhaps I'm missing something) but his Lensky seems to me emotionally real. Perhaps more so by contrast.

I like how there's flesh left exposed between makeup and that stiff painted suit -- like the vulnerable self showing. The movements are odd but I guess you just had to be there!
