One of the evolutionary products of this system has been capitalism, a new mode of production which supposedly turns human labor into a fungible commodity and immiserates the workers as the bourgeosie seeks to increase profits by cutting wages.

One of the purported contradictions of capitalism is that it seeks to cut costs and increase production while at the same time cutting wages for the working class which would otherwise be purchasing these commodities.
Marx stated that this would result in economic crises of ever-increasing proportions, which the ruling class would respond to with ever more oppressive political arrangements. Eventually, even the gendarmes and the conscripts - who are, of course, part of the working class - would refuse to support the ruling class and would turn against their paymasters in class solidarity.
The only thing which prevents this from occurring immediately is the ideological structures which have evolved to support the ruling class' power, and which everyone is unknowingly ensconced in, even the rulers themselves. The Communist uses his magical powers to see through this tissue of lies, and he act as the vanguard who shows the way to the brilliant utopian future by spreading class consciousness in the working class and alerting them to the class warfare being waged upon them. Once the revolution has been accomplished, there would be a brief Dictatorship of the Proletariat as the working class seizes control of the levers of power.
Through magical communist incantations, the state would wither away as the economy would be reordered so that all economic activity takes place on a purely voluntary basis. The workers would own the modes of production, and they would cheerfully work the same amount as before despite the fact that there is no longer any incentive to work hard since everyone receives the same living standard and "hard work" is a false bourgeois construct anyway.
The economy as a whole would turn into a sort of ecosystem, naturally regulating itself with minimal direction. Or whatever, Marx never really thought this part out very well. After the Magical Communist Revolution brought us to the Super-Special Worker's Paradise, everything would work out some way or other. In the real world, however, things didn't work out too well. Communism never came to power through revolution.
It came to power mainly through putsch (like the Bolvsheviks) or through ordinary military conquest (like China, or for that matter the GDR). It certainly never came to power through the spontaneous arrival of the working class to class consciousness. As a result, the societies which the Communists took control of quickly turned into large prison camps as the Dicatorship of the Proletariant stretched on and on.
There were two main reasons why this was so: Firstly, since the Communists never took power through the imaginary unicorn Worker's Revolution, these socieies were not at the proper point of social development to allow the state to wither away. Society had to be forced to go through the revolutionary process, which meant whatever the communist generalissimo said it meant.
@123Cranker In Russia, it meant stealing grain from the peasants - the grain is the people's, not yours, tight-fisted peasant! So the peasant starved. In China, it meant decentralizing industrial production - the peasants had to build iron furnaces in their backyards rather than cultivate crops. So the peasants starved. In Cambodia? Of course, if you resist the revolution in any way, your are either literally insane - that is, trapped in false consciousness - or you are somehow part of the ruling class ( even if you are just a Ukrainian muzhik who simply doesn't want the soldiers to take away his last bushel of wheat) and are subject to summary execution.
At any rate, society must be transformed into the worker's paradise, which will be so super-nice that it doesn't matter - literally, simply doesn't matter - how high a pile of bodies you have to crawl over to get to it. Of course, Marx possessed a ridiculous comic book version of human psychology, so society never transforms the way the communist ruling elite says it should, and the dictatorship of the proletariat goes on and on.
The second reason communism fails is that it is incapable of replicating the ability of capitalism to generate productivity and to regulate itself. If you are a worker in a factory and you will receive exactly the same wage if you work super-hard as the slacker at the next metal press, why work hard? Communism never found a remedy for this.
Also: given the (now entirely obsolete) labor theory of value espoused by Marx, how do we price things? What is a loaf of bread worth? What is a car worth? What is a house worth? Communism doesn't know, and as a result it was never able to satisfy the needs of society. A capitalist system operates according to supply and demand: a loaf of bread is worth what people are willing to pay for it.
If people are willing to pay more for it, the price goes up, then industry will make more of, and then the price will go down. Self-regulating! In communism, you make as many loaves as the central bureau tells you to make. How would you like the DMV to also determine how much food shows up in your local grocery? That's about how well it worked.
Since the economy refused to undergo those magical transformations that Marx supposed it would, the Dictatorship of the Proletariat had to go on and on, or the communist economic relations would collapse and people would immeidately revert to the capitalist system of making what people want because they are willing to pay for it, rather than making what the government says they should want in the amounts the government says they should want it.

The Dicatorship of the Proletariat - which was always just the Dictatorship of the Communist Party Elite - can't wither away because it has false premises, yet these false premises do not remove the guns from the hands of the Stasi or close the KGB prisons; the government has a vested interest in the continuation of the Communist prison nation system, and refuses to accept its failure.
This is the inevitable result of any attempt to enact Communism. Does this mean that there should not be some form of mixed economy, with some degree of government intervention? Not necessarily. It certainly means that COMMUNISM SUCKS. Is that enough of an explanation for you?

Well, the only good thing that came out of WW2 was exactly the EU, so all the shit that happened before could give us atleast a nice future. I hope so, i mean all thoose European wars were rubbish. But atleast for now we seem to recognize that we - the Europeans - are kind of one people, we may have different cultures and countries and languanges but we are somewhat the same.

Communism never came to power through revolution.

It came to power mainly through putsch (like the Bolvsheviks) or through ordinary military conquest (like China, or for that matter the GDR). It certainly never came to power through the spontaneous arrival of the working class to class consciousness. As a result, the societies which the Communists took control of quickly turned into large prison camps as the Dicatorship of the Proletariant stretched on and on.

There were two main reasons why this was so: Firstly, since the Communists never took power through the imaginary unicorn Worker's Revolution, these socieies were not at the proper point of social development to allow the state to wither away. Society had to be forced to go through the revolutionary process, which meant whatever the communist generalissimo said it meant.

Well, the only good thing that came out of WW2 was exactly the EU, so all the shit that happened before could give us atleast a nice future. I hope so, i mean all thoose European wars were rubbish. But atleast for now we seem to recognize that we - the Europeans - are kind of one people, we may have different cultures and countries and languanges but we are somewhat the same.
I think that the EU is the best project for out nations. Hopefully continues going on. Peace. =)
