  • Aaahh memories of a misspent youth. Thanks to Debbie AND the band and all the others that helped make such an awesome era. We got drunk, had sex (and it didn't kill us) had fights without knives then bought the other guy a drink, Happy Days...mmmm I think that was on TV lol

  • So was I! Beautiful song and name!

  • I think it is a very very beautiful modern song

  • I heart you, all of you. This song and most your songs helped me get through some tough years. Saw you live last night, you better come back soon, or I'll have to come to you! In the most non-stalker sounding way possible. Maybe a show in NY?

  • Comment removed

  • God damn ! This is what i call "music" ...!

  • this song, along with Union City Blue, should have been sang on Saturday Night Live 10/13/79 - that would have been awesome. Does anyone remember the big east coast blizzard on 10/10/79? We left school early that day. Yeah!!!!! Blondie performed on SNL just 3 days later.

  • didn't the muse borrowed the intro? Or incorporated Shayla into Starlight?

  • I was named after this song(:

  • @CantTapThis99 -prettiest mouth on the planet.

  • My 2nd favorite blondie but I really love them all.

  • One of Debs best songs :)

  • This song makes me want to get a dreamy girl here in the city and just have an 80's romantic escape into the night and the city of to some scenic location outside and overlooking the city, just us runaways together, in a car or on a bike and the night city and this song is all we need, lol. Or do I just have a good imagination? lol

  • @TheMarrification

    come get me tomorrow

  • My names shayla...haha weird

  • did she have any singing lessons?

  • @x3rrrMc I don't think Debbie had any singing lessons before or during the time of Blondie.

  • @doetim that makes me like blondie even more, soo naturallll

  • @x3rrrMc She comes from that alternative underground movement in NY and I don't think anyone there had voice lessons. What she has is natural indeed! However since singing jazz music in the 90's she did start taking voice lessons.

  • Berlin covered it in a tribute album

  • this is their greatest should have been a massive single

  • I understand that this is from 1979 but it still makes me feel very emotional escpecially after being in love with a blond girl now in 2011.

  • this song touches me more if, while listening, I don't watch the video. It happened again - the tears are flowing.

  • Мне в детстве хуй в ухо всунули и теперь плохо слышую Девочки красивые, но буду выключать, а то опять выебут.

  • One of the best ever!!!

  • Fantastic! Blondie's best song - and all the others ain't bad, either. Notice how the band decided to use the world's greatest drummer,Clem Burke whereas the Arctic Monkeys chose to employ the world's worst, presumably as a publicity stunt. I doubt if we'll ever see quality rock like Blondie again.

  • Tehe my name is Shayla :)

  • @shaylasapphire How did that happen?

  • @shaylasapphire All you Shaylas out there are very lucky to have a song with your name this good from a classic band!

  • Such a powerful and beautiful song. I wish they had done more songs like this.

  • I'm embarrassed to say I honestly forgot about this song (until now).

  • Beautiful song one of her best thanks for throwing it on

  • Debbie, amo-te... i love you... je taime..

  • Awesome...I had no idea...I never like Blondie or Debbie Harry for that matter. This is unreal. thanks.

  • I'm amazed at the overwhelming number of people that have never had the pleasure of listening to this song - they are truly missing out. It's one of my all time favorite tunes from the pop/rock era. I can't figure out why, but it even has the power to bring forth tears to my eyes, and not many songs do that.

  • @pnt1204 As people reject today's music, there turning their focus backwards to the 80's and discovering how it used to be. My nephews and their friends love the great music of this era. When I finish burning a Blondie CD, they will run off with it and "spread the joy". I know they'll love this song as well --- because Uncle Greg always has good music. They now see thru today's "music" and seek sustance.

  • @MrMidwestgreg carry on with the good work "uncle Greg" - my kids are also 80's fans - they love the great Blondie!!!

  • @pnt1204 This song brings up a lot of feelings. Not everyone's ready for that experience.

  • She fucked her fist right into my heart, I just love her!

  • i "heart" this song!

  • I wonder if the members of Blondie had any idea, during recording, that this song would be such an emotional powerhouse as to bring tears to its listeners.

  • Why is this song never included in any of the Blondie greatest hits compilations?

  • Shayla must have decided to go on a thru-hike of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail where the green trees are calling and there's plenty of scenery. So the very next day at work she tells the boss to "take this job and shove it, I'm not working here no more." I've deciced to go on a thru-hike of the ANST. Goodbye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Voice of an Angel and the face of a Goddess with genius Musical talent in the same person, you won't see that again...

  • LOVE THING SONG AND "UNION CITY BLUE"

  • omg this is awesome...

  • I can't believe so many putzes in my generation grew up to name their suburban lacrosse-playing, sexting, mallrat brat after this geniusly haunting, somewhat depressing tune... LMAO!!! as all the Shaylas would say...

  • La verdad que es buena cancion,yo tampoco la habia oido.Tiene un buen repertorio de canciones Que guapa era de joven ,ahora tendra 65 o 70 años

  • wow how awesome

  • had all of these on cassette, wow

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. Well done. Great vocals. Great music. Great mix. What more could you want.

  • I don't believe I have ever seen a more beautiful mouth on anyone - WOW - gorgeous LIPS indeed! BLONDIE!

  • Did you also see the mothman? He is more weird than me, It sings a good Debbi H beefore it creps you out, Ya I iknow, you think I'm nut's, well, fuck you. I'm not.

  • 4 losers got dumped by girls named Shayla.

  • PS Frank Infante looks like Brian Peppers!! No wonder he was called The Freak!! Lol jk.

  • I LOVE this SONG!

  • moveing song love blondie x

  • sudden Nyan poptart cat viewing opportunity watch?v=QH2-TGUlwu4

  • I was 8 and in Love! Still have the album too.

  • It's shocking to me that till this day no major group or solo artist has tried to cover this incredible song! Maybe they don't want to ruin it.

  • @doetim Berlin covered it in 2001 Sacred Live and Profane,

  • @doetim -I think you are absolutely correct. No one else could do her (or the song) justice.

  • It wasn't just that Blondie was ahead of its time. Debbie Harry not only had unusual beauty, but an instinctive ability to emphasize it without the over the top drama that's become the norm today. The little smirks, the slight crook of her mouth when singing, her subtle mannerisms, it all did more to make her beauty even more painful to look at than any ridiculous antics and dirty dancing silliness just about every female singer these days thinks they need. Add genius music and you get Blondie.

  • @nib68 Well Said!

  • @sirtinycreep I couldn't agree with you more. I love everything about this tune. Even something as knit-picky as the drum production. So friggin' good. Debbie's voice is at a peak, and the arrangement...perfection!

  • I agree, but i think its her best song!!! i remember watching this on tv in 1979 when i was 13. Did any of you know that this whole album (Eat to the Beat) was done on video so theres a video for every song!!! was cool watching it that day...i'll never forget it!! Ah...the good ol' days...

  • best blondie song of all time

  • makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!!

beautiful tune from the most beautiful creation ever.

taken from not just blondies best album but the best album EVER!!!!

  • Debbie seems to sing of my Dreams. For years, I have wondered if i am dreaming.

  • So beautiful.

  • 最期に聞きたい曲は?って死神に言われたら、これかな。

  • voz linda rosto lindo, boca linda essa mulher é o maximo mesmo

  • I friggin love this song. Blondies 'Eat To The Beat' album was a must have album.

  • I am a huge Blondie fan and I think this was her best vocal performance.

  • I used to sing the songs from the" Eat To the Beat" album in my room, with my bleached hair, thinking i was her. This song always touched me.When i hear this i go back.........its still 1979,i am a lost soul and guys call me Blondie....hee,hee.

  • i didnt know blondie had a song about me,lol..jk

  • MMmmm

    Blondie :)

Love from a fan in Sweden...still

  • This wasn't even a single and it wasn't a cover neither. It's a beautiful song one of my favorites.

  • Loved her from the first time I heard her sing. Beautiful!!! :)

  • I saw Blondie in concert in Atlanta, GA., in Aug. 2009!! Debbie was 64 at the time, and was AWESOME!!!!! She sounded the same as she did back in the day. I have all the Blondie vinyl albums from 1976 -82. I also have all of Debbie's solo albums, and 12 Inch Dance singles. Debbie is a true rock music legend!!

  • I love them because they are all American. So hot, group, from New York. What happened to music in America?. The t***is just right, she kept her weight off, and she is intellegent, and talented. And the mouth.... This kind of woman is so hard to find today. So many American women need to keep the weight of and find their beauty. Even today...

    Blondie come back with more!!!

  • This is one of Blondie's greatest ever songs, but sadly it seems to be the least known...

  • @sirtinycreep Not by us true believers. This is one of the truly great pop songs or all time, and will remain as a great classic.

  • @sirtinycreep totally true perfect statement

  • awesome voice gorgeous looks, damm good drummer too........

  • I wondered how many people realized how far ahead of it's time this song and video really were. It reminds me of many videos, which came out in the early 90s. To the band, it was probably just one more experiment, among many others. They had such a greatly divers sound no labels could be placed on them and maybe that's why they just didn't get the appreciation that they deserved. As popular as they were, they were still grossly underrated. Most people seem to prefer the lady gag gags.

  • what i find intreasting about this vid is looking at her eyes how distant Debbie seems,

the performace is of course simply fantastic,

  • beautiful to see and to hear

  • Amazing...not more to say.

  • The most beautiful gal and voice in Rock And Roll history?

  • @dapvettes I agree. There have been no challengers since.

  • Nice voice and pretty woman. It´s homicidal combination.....

  • 1Rooster67; Thanks for posting this hauntingly beautiful song...I finally ran across it....I've been looking for it for a while (spelled "Sheila" which didn't help)...this song really does it for me...Debbie Harry is great...what a voice...what a look!

  • brilliant singer. gorgeous. all my mates were into police. and i soldiered on with blondie (they are a group!) :)

  • What a Voice----------------!!!!!

  • Beautiful right there!!!

  • My favorite Blondie song. brings tears to my eyes

  • @littleamigos - amazing cheek bones and amazing mouth/lips. She is just gorgeous!!!

  • mia0899cs looks like this ~

    (pls no flirts)

  • This is woman. This is music.

  • Debby Harry certainly inspired others such as Chrissy Hynde and Pat Benetar.

  • my name is shayla. <3

  • I love this song and the video is fantastic...thanks :)

  • Debbie is the most beautiful woman that I have ever seen.

  • @themainproblem Thumbs up! ....Did you know she got picked up by Ted Bundy; but fortunately for all of us escaped.

  • @kennethj1956 I had not ever heard anything like that. I am glad we didn't loose her.

  • The softer side of Blondie....Too bad she did not do more songs like this. You can definitely see she did have a more than a decent vocal range- she did not have to be just about rock songs. Blondie Ballads.....is this as close as we will come?

  • Is anyone more "pop" than Blondie?

  • iggy snap crackle n goes the weasel. beauty is fleeting i remembered in my mind how good looking she was then i watched some vids of her and it all came back how mesmerised i was by her when i was 12

  • 100 THUMBS UP, MAN! .... Debbie forever!

  • what a top lip what bone structure what a voice what a pop package, puts em modern pukey androgynous fakesters to shame, she hypnotised me as a 12 y. o.

  • Love this unknown song of Blondie's but it really effects me for a couple of days when i see/ listen to it. Strange because i don't know ANYTHING that has that level of effect on me!

  • @boltonox She was and is amazing. I met her several times back int he 70's and what a wonderul person. She is just so good and she has shown that over and over. Even beyond her partner, she has helped so many people and is no Bob Geldork or anything: she never set herself up as a saint or anything and is upsonfortable speaking in public at all. But what a real living doll. LOVE you and keep on keeping on Debby! (and I am a woman BTW)

  • @schuylerd1 Funny enough i wasn't into her back in the 70-80' 90's. I wasn't into POP music Bands much but i came across some unknown (to me!) songs of Blondies on YT 6 months ago called "Slow Motion" "Detroit 442" "Snipper" "Rifle Range" etc etc. I can honestly say i was absolutely gobsmacked! How the hell can a band be so badly managed that only their commercial POP music tracks ever got Played????? I felt quite embarressed because i put them in the POP novelty catagory! BIG MISTAKE!

  • @schuylerd1 I really envy you, having met her. I can honestly say apart from Jesus and Elvis. she's the only person i would really really love to meet. Ive watched a few of her interviews and she is the most unusual, strange, fascinating, woman i have ever seen. Ive read up quite a bit since, and she is even more fasinating than i first thought! Did You talk to her when you met her? Im wondering why a movie about her life hasnt been done yet? What do yo think? Cheers(and i am a male BTW) Ha! Ha!

  • @boltonox I was young, dating a pop guy (from the Shoes), but no one who those in her scene knew. She knew all of the ultra-hip, but was incredibly sweet, kind, and open. And as beautiful as she looks on tape, she is really more lovely in person: her skin is to die for and she has jewel-like eyes.W/o makeup, she was luminous, though tiny. At the time, I wanted to meet Joey Ramone, and after meeting me just twice, she set up a breakfast where I could hang with him and her. So nice!

  • @schuylerd1 to continue...I'm not sure, as I do not know her now, but I don't think that she would like a "Behind the Music" or a film about Blondie. Just a guess, though. She doesn't like press or publicity AT ALL (which was a problem for Blondie even back then). She doesn't have attitude, but is just super-shy, which can appear like attittude, I suppose, There is a Lester Bangs Blondie book with great photos, but she left even him at a loss in terms of interviews etc..

  • @schuylerd1 Internet crashed sorry...Well there was a film about her scheduled a couple of years back. They were talking about casting Kirsten Dunst to play DH . Deborah talked about it and thought Dunst would be good as her but i really don't think she's right at all. Dunst is waaay to plain looking and lacks the Rock Chic sensuality/ sexuality that would be a critical necessity for any actress playing DH. Its almost impossible to find an actress with her striking, unorthodox beauty though!

  • @boltonox "find an actress with her striking, unorthodox beauty" I have an answer to everyone's queries, Debbie Harry was the one and only perfect woman for our modern American history. As a result, it's impossible to make sense of the situation, since our society isn't advanced enough to comprehend her. So look at it like this, we have a glimpse of our 25th century world but we kinda born a little too early for it.

  • @kngrtk I'll have to agree with you on the "perfect women" part.

  • @schuylerd1 Have you seen her in the film clip for "call me"1980. She's down at the beach near Coney Island N.Y. She dosnt seem to be wearing much if any makup at all because on my Hi DEF monitor i can see some very small freckles on her face. She would have been about 34-35 when this clip was done but she looks about 19-20 !!! So when you mentioned her skin i know you would be correct. What colour are her eyes in person because they appear to change colour, each clip, from green, blue, grey, jade

  • @boltonox I Her eyes are actually light hazel, which explains the color changes: they usually they look green, but the brown flecks can make them appear dark blue and lavender, depending on the lighting. If you enjoy images of her, I cannot recommend enough Lester Bangs' book: he was fairly negative about her/Blondie, but it is a trove of photos of the band, her, others in the scene, etc. and the resolution is far better than you see on the web. She was also in about 50 films!

  • @schuylerd1 Thanks for that. I wouldnt have thought they were that colour at all. Actually im a little embarressed to say this, but for some BIZZAR / MYSTICAL reason i havnt worked out yet, i never realised how Unique and stunningly beautiful she was. Iv'e only just realised it 6 months ago while i watched her video clips. Ive seen them plenty of times before but it just never clicked! Now i realise she has the most exquisite and rare combination of facial features ive EVER seen, on ANY woman...

  • @boltonox Cont... and ive had a LOT of expossure to a lot of very beautiful women all my life. I can't think of any women who ive met or ever seen who even slightly resemble her apart from the platinum hair. Can i ask you another question please... Did you meet happen to meet Chris Stein and if so what was your impression of him. P's i will look for that book you mentioned and try to order it, are you in it the book bye chance and if so where abouts? P.s I hope i get the chance to meet with her

  • @boltonox She is really a unique beauty. I never met Stein, but they were very very close for years, and she nursed him through his illness. I am in the Bangs' book, well the top of my head is, anyway, on pg. 37 at a Blondie show at CBGB. If you IMDB her , she was in a lot of films, and had real roles in several: you might like UNION CITY and HEAVY.

  • @schuylerd1 Oh, absolutely, I love/loved that period, and all questions and comments about it are great as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, in answer to your latest thought, Debbie was busy with a career and then nuring Stein and I don't know, but I honestly don't think, that she had any interest in a nuclear family of her own. You're right, her movie performances are kind of odd, but she didn't want to be the star or "loved" girl, ever and she was about doing her music: it makes her timeless.

  • @schuylerd1 Debbie Harry's eyes are NOT hazel. You should do a google image search on her and you'll see lots of facial pix showing her blue eyes. Her eyes are blue with a silvery grey tone to them.

  • @doetim Honestly, they're changeable in the light, but her hair is really medium brown and her eyes are a light hazel. I've met her etc. and they are just not blue. They can look blue, or more often green, depending on how she is lit, her position, and what she is wearing. Many people with alluring eyes are hazels.

  • @schuylerd1 I have met her several times up close too after her concerts, meet and greet type of thing. Her eyes, as far as I could tell, were blue, grayish blue to be exact. Not saying one color is better the the other but hazel has combo of green and yellow in it and her eyes weren't hazel to be from what I've seen. In fact if you do an image search for her pix, the closeup shots show that her eyes are not hazel but grey/blue. The lighting in this video is very weird and not accurate.

  • yes she does; she did NOT have to flash her tits nor even her legs

only her ATTitude and honey thats what makes ALL the difference~~~~

  • Her voice is so rich, and clear as a bell. Very beautiful. She is gorgeous, too. Those eyes, and lips, that skin and figure!

  • Great vid, thanks for posting it! :) --Dancougar82

  • i wonder how i missed this one .this is brilliant stuff and yes debbie can sing but its the charisma the whole band puts over great ,girls aloud?????? i dont think so!

  • hahaha &this is why I like to search my name on YouTube :) :)
