I'm really glad that you bring up the modding issue, because publishers have forced a lot of negative change over the years. A lot of people don't remember this, but DICE used to patch in community made maps (Highway Tampa in 2142). We could play modded maps on Ranked servers. I must point out though that Black Ops was not a flop on PC. Dedicated servers and mod tools returned, and while I personally don't like CoD as a game, Treyarch was very nice as a developer to the PC community.
You should try Gotham City Impostors out. I don't know if the beta's out for PC but you can get it for both 360 and PS3. It is a TON of fun and provides nice variety from the modern shooters. Only problem is that it is a beta and there's not too many people online but you should definitely give it a go. :]

Agreed with everything you said, the reason they hardly ever let people make mods is because COD5, 6, 7, and 8 showed people will pay full price every year for a fucking mod.
i think it would be great if game companies stopped releasing so many games so close together. a cod every year is overkill and the enjoyment is gone. money needs to stop being a priority and making a great polished fun game that you can play for over 6 months or at most a year should be the focus.i'm willing to wait 2-3 years between games to make sure that the new one is gonna be great, RPG's are great for this
A great game is often hard to beat and bad company 2 as a great game and a bundle of fun. My personal opinion is bf3 s not half as fun, but thats probably because I am stubborn with my play style and with what I like. I still ebjoy it but I get really frustrated with it. @airsoft1266 no VoIP and Private servers, super lame those are big deals if all that makes bf3 awesome, there are several things that knock it down. Also the weapons are based on rate of fire as opposed to gun skill, the variety of weapons and choices on bc2 is very diverse, i expected that to be carried over. ie was shooting at a player, he jumps im still hitting him, he shoots i die...it should happen takes away from the fun factor.

i agree, the source engine is a bit dated now, but the mods and games from the source engine are easy to mod, free to release mods and extra content, and its super interesting. bf2 had alot of large projects that i looked forward to. infact back during bf1942, a team made a mod called desert combat, or DC which was a total conversion, it added maps, guns, kits, vehicles, places/jets, choppers. and it changed the game. i believe the team was hired to do professional work,
I love BF3 way more than I ever did BC2, but a couple of my friends still play BC2 from time to time. I miss a few of the maps in BC2, but everything about the play style and gameplay improvements for BF3 are vast improvements over BC2. You'll rarely get stale mates in BF3, whereas if you go into any BC2 server now it seems to be nothing but no-score draws.
Really enjoyed this commentary & your right people don't want keep playing a game they might enjoy they'd rather skip on to the next game COD style.It a shame too because to me BC2 is better than BF3

The only reason CS 1.6 & Source are still alive is because of the mods and custom maps. I spent more time on CS:S playing those glass floor maps than anything else, and gun game mod was insanely fun!

i love bc2 still and i totally agree that bf3 has lost the fun factor it has turned into a frustrating experience (not because i suck just because every gun is basically the same) and the map design is just horrible all the close quarters maps are just choke points that turn into explosive havens.
the problem with BF3 is its far to casual of an experience. In BC2 if I lost a gun fight, it was probably my fault. BF3 on the other hand has certain skill equalizers that allow you to conpinsate for your lack of ability. Tac lights, easy weapon physics, lock on AT AA weapons, an over abundance of vehicle perks, and worst of all the javelin-SOFLAM combination all severley detract from a good gameplay experience.

Battlefield 2 was and is still the best battlefield that is still alive. that had everything accept the distuction BC2 had which i'll give you credit that bc2 has more distruction then bf3. but bf2 is the king of the Battlefield series.

I used to be primarily console, only because of money and a sucky PC, but I agree FULLY with mod support, sometimes gamers have better ideas, and it's the wisdom of developers to have dev tools and add mods to the game, i.e MineCraft.
