@Ntrnty OK let's say he has been granted with some foresight to save the city. He could say "I think there's something wrong with it." or "I think it's a trap!". Both of these would have worked but due to this obvious writing mistake it seems as if he's just suggesting they burn it for no reason whatsoever.
@bobivd6688 I think they wrote the phrase like that to show that Paris had an instant psycological and not logical doubt about the horse. He didn't had an idea about HOW it could be dangerous or if it could be. But I see it as an impulse, a strong and sudden feeling of hatred towards it. So, he can say only this phrase and not a logicaly sctructured argument against the horse.
@bobivd6688 In the extended version, the scene is like you say it should be. And it's much boring and lacks any tension. Here, Paris sounds strong for once and the music fits the scene perfectly. What makes this scene significant however, is the transition to the next: King Priam doesn't respond, we see the Trojan Horse brought inside the city, the music is the continuation of the previous scene except now it becomes chilling and mesmerizing. Clearly, this is one of the cases where less is more.
Did anybody else catch the pattern that whenever Priam doesnt listen to his sons, that a lot of people seem to die in a pretty horrible way? No way in hell id let him be my king
he should have, in the oddessy he was a coward (at least i say he was) and becasue he was too chicken to leave the walls and fight like a real man with a sword he fired a poisoned arrow into his heel, becasue he must avenge hector, however he, his father and brother are killed later on, the whinny upstart deserved his fate.
Old man should've listened to his boy. Paris may not be a fighter, but he sure was the smart one in the family. The horse here looks absolutely ominous and sinister.
Even if it was truly a gift and the Greek army actually retreated, burning it would be the right thing to do if you want to add insult to their injury. Shame that it was hubris that led to the fall of Troy.
Helen was said to have walked around the horse imitating the voices of the Greeks wives IOT get them to come out of hiding. Would've been interesting to have seen that in the film.
though the overall destruction of troy was price paris's fault, king priam did make 2 of the worst decisions, both of which were not listening to his sons. 1) to counter attack the greek ships (where hector kills the cousin of achilles and reunites the myrmidons), and in this scene, where he again does not listen to his son's advice to burn the trojan horse, which obviously leads to the sacking of troy.
@pt87153 And what are the others then? They dont care if there are soldiers in horse. They just stupidly bring it to Troy. Paris was maybe most clever, thats why he didnt die and killed Achilles.
@TheH4nek true but less people woudlve died if paris burned the horse. the greeks got into the city because the people in the horse opened the gates of troy.
"Shut up son. You pretty much caused all this to begin with because you couldn't keep your pants up. I think I know what I'm doing."
(Troy burns and Priam lies dying)
"I suffer numerous ironic situations, my son gets dragged in the dirt, my city burns, I got stabbed in the back, and that kid was right and still comes out alive?! The gods must hate me."
@balrog13571 not sure why this comment doesn't have a ton of thumbs up already ... but i'll get the party started. Thumbs way up for this one. ROFL! You so nailed it. OMG.
@orlandogirl213 Why in the hell would you ever take Paris' side? Both the movie AND the written mythology make it blatantly clear that Paris is a coward and a moron. He's the sole reason his country was destroyed and his city burned to the ground. And for what? A pretty face? He didn't deserve Helen. She was given to him by Aphrodite.
@Maniac742 Homer wrote Paris as a coward and he also gave Odysseus a happy ending that he didn't deserve for murdering innocents and destroying a city. I don't trust what is written in mythology. He is not the reason Troy burned. The reason Troy burned was because Odysseus was too moronic to end the war without bloodshed. All Paris did was want to be with Helen, is that so wrong that he loved her and wanted to b with her? I believe Helen loved Paris by her volition. Trojans are heroes to me.
@orlandogirl213 Why would that be Odysseus fault? Every historical account makes it clear that Agamemnon was in charge of the war on the Greek front. Odysseus ended the conflict before more Greeks could be killed fighting a war they didn't start. Regardless of whether or not Paris actually loved her, the entire war was his fault. He had to raid Menelaus' house in order to get her. He chose his personal pleasure over his country's welfare.
@Maniac742 Because it was Odysseus's idea to burn Troy to the ground and murder everyone. If Odysseus didn't want more Greeks to die, why didn't he end the war without bloodshed? Why did he enjoy killling innocent Trojans? The entire war was not Paris's fault. It was Agamemnon and Menelaus's fault. They wanted the world and more. Paris didn't choose himself over Troy. He's the most honorable hero of the war. He wanted Helen and Troy, too. That's why he fault Menelaus. You don't give Paris credit
hahaha dass why americans think that every country they go ppl are gonna b able to understand them..lmaoo..dat happened in turkey for god sakes.. why r they talkin in english?? and with british accent..lmaoo
Perhaps if you gave some reasoning on why you wanted to burn it Priam would of listened to you.
Priam is also foolish for not listening to either of his sons, which caused the downfall of troy (in the movie, not really sure what happened in real life)
Well, hey, if you look at it my way, the Acheans lost the war too. They drenched their hands in blood and what did they gain? Nothing. And they lost their biggest killing machine, Achilles. I do wish they had listened to Paris.
the greeks should have used troy as a fortress, and from there they could expand out and gain some more territory. instead they came out of the war with nothing more than having lost several heros like ajax and achilles, lost many thousands of soldiers, and then burned what they lost all that for to the ground. all they got on the plus side was eliminate an enemy city, which hardly posed any threat to them. the greeks LOST!
@turtleguy910456686 No.. They left with much more than that actually.. Think about it.. You destroyed a city believed to be impossible to be breached and burn it to ashes on your command. That is power right there.. The power of fear. "Oh shit! This guy destroyed Troy! How the Fuck can we win?!" Also that's why there's a famous saying: Beware of Greeks bearing Gifts. Fear was a great power in those days.. And it is still today.
@turtleguy910456686 Yeah, I mean, Is not like Achilles didn't get something out of it.. We still remember him after so many years as the greatest hero of all times :D Your name and my name after our kids have kids and those kids have kids we will be forgotten. Achilles' story has been preserve from past generations! And Generations to come.
Also, they Still had Ajax the lesser who was claimed to be as agile as Achilles :D
