Their own website is chronically at least 6 months out of date in listing available animals.
I'm glad that some shelters are more progressive than our backwater dump.
I tried to adopt a long haired chihuahua from an agency in Dallas, TX. When found he was covered in fleas so bad he had flea dirt caked on his face and open sores from biting at them. Plus, there were 5 other dogs from the same home that all had either heartworms or parasites. The SPCA decided that the owners (that ran the meth lab the pets were rescued from) were fit to keep them. Where's the humanity in that? Most offenders become repeat offender and the pets end up back in the system.
We have 5 strays we brought in along with 1 we got at birth. I've had to trap cats at our corporation yard and take them to the shelter and it upsets me to see all those animals in there looking to be loved....

This is awesome! These animals need the help and it is good to know that more will see this and visit shelters. The dog that lives with me was going to be put in a shelter and we got her before that happened. I've talked friends who want an animal to save one from a shelter and others into getting their animals fixed to help keep the population down so less animals end up in this situation.
In a few years when I get a cat, there is no other place I will consider going to get him/her!
hi Jill, great idea! it is sad how many people still get pets from "pet shops" and breeders when there are sooo many sweeties just waiting to share their love. wonderful way to remember Lucky. drop by sometime! (;
Awesome video idea, Jill. The last time I was looking for a pet, I went to several shelters. I wanted a dwarf rabbit. The quality of the shelters really varied; one didn't even have the water where the rabbits could reach it, so I took time to fix their water system. Sad, but I think they don't know anything but cats and dogs.
Finally I paid $10 for a little black bunny. He's just as affectionate as any dog. But the shelter experiences made me more aware of my needs and the animals' needs.
Sure do. You can see a pic at twitpic-dot-com/f3qu
I don't think he had been mistreated when I got him, but he wasn't happy, either. He only weighed 700 gms, very small, very thin even for a dwarf. They only fed him pellets. When I got him home, he was like "I don't know where I am, but the food is good!"
The first time I had to board him, I took him back to those people. When I returned for him, he bucked so hard when he saw me that the woman couldn't hold him. Jumped on me so fast!
Anyone that buys a pet from a pet store or pays a ton of money for a pedigreed animal must not realize how wrong they are! My husband and I have three cats (2 adopted and 1 was a stray we took in) There are tons of cats and dogs that are KILLED (yeah I said it...why should I say put to sleep or something dumb like that...they are murdered as far as I am concerned) every year for no good reason. Lucky would be proud! Looking forward to the next vid!
Lucky would be proud and was fortunate to have you. This is a great great video you've posted. I have either acquired my friends from a rescue or actually found them as strays that needed a home.
So called "animal shelters" are realyy not the answer for saving lost pets...it just promotes continued cruelty to animals. Try your local animal rescue group. These are people that really "care" for the well being of your new house guest...not pet
This was way past great Jill. I can't stand to see the beautiful animals locked up for nothing they did and more put to death for just being born in this world. When I see the animals like you shown they are so loving and gentle I think wishing for something but not what, maybe someone to take them home would be what they wish for. My away from my apt, not pet apt and travels I can't have an animal but I do miss not being around one.
Very nice idea Jill. I'd actually never had a pet, but If someday I finally decide to have one, I'd definitely looked in a shelter. It's non sense to pay so much money for "pedigree", when there are so many animals that need our help.
I think this new series is a great idea. Not only are you doing something that is close to your heart, but it ultimately helps all the animals that are in need of rescuing. My pets have always been adopted and it means so much more than the alternative.
When my son was 2, it was obvious that he loved cats. So we took him to the shelter and put cats on his lap, one by one, until we found one that didn't try to escape from him. That cat has been his best buddy for 14 years.
I love your video and I totally agree with you Jill... My girlfriend and I got a puppy from the street, she was really skinny, dirty and so so sad... So we took her home, gave her a bath, took her to the vet for some shots and now we have the cutest dog ever! She's healthy and getting good weight. Also we went a month later to a shelter to find her a sidekick :-) another girl puppy as cute as her! I'll post some videos when I have time. Great seeing you as always. Love!!!
My first dog was rescued off of the streets. I had her for 15 years. When she was 14, I adopted a pointer puppy from the shelter to keep her company, she is now 15 and is slow to move and sometimes scatter brained but she is still a wonderful girl. Three months ago we adopted a mixed puppy to keep her spry in her last years. Lala is a welcome addition (she belongs to my son now). They never cease to love you.
My beloved Finnish Spitz, Rusty, passed away last week after 17 golden years as first my grandparents' dog, and then our dog. My grandmother resuced Rusty from the side of the road when he was 3 years old, after he had been abused by his previous owners. He was such a funny a happy dog, and I knew him for most of my life. And to think, someone threw him away. I love what you do Jill, please continue your work. Love from Chicago.
The dog I have.. and have had for about 5 years now, I found in a trash can at an old high school when she was a puppy. So, I guess you could say I saved her life!
I got my cat Lily from this vet office. And a month ago we took in this stray who is an older cat about 7 years old. If we didn't decide to keep him he probably never would have gotten a home because of his age. But he fit right in and found his permanent home at last.
great video. My wife works for our humaine society running a Thrift Store. it is amazing how many people dont care about the animals they own or in there neighborhoods.
My family as a Golden name Lance. He was a rescue. The shelter picked him up off the street, so we don't know much about his history. But we're pretty sure he was abused because he's only about 4 or 5 and has gone blind. But we take good care of him, and I think he definitely appreciates it.
Jill! i am so happy that you care so much for animals! I volunteer at the Humane Society here locally and i really dont understand how pedigrees are chosen over these awesome animals.
i rescued my kitty O'Reilly:] (RI-RI) he was such a sweet lil tiger kitty, a runt, and all his bros and sises were orange and HUUUUGE. he looked scared, so we took him hommmme:]
my first pet, was a huge dog. my dad adopted it and he was the sweetest thing ever. he died but at a very ripe old age. we had him for 10 years maybe.
I know exactly where ur comin from Jill as my Dad breeds and trains sheep dogs.... that said i rescued a retired Greyhound a few years ago and its the most loyal well behaved dog we've ever had and we've had many live on the farm.
I currently have 4 all where either abused or abandonded at one time.I couldn't even walk into one of those shelters without coming out with another.Unfortunately city ordinance only allows 4 dogs in my city.
i have 2 cockapoos and they mean the world to me i didnt rescue them or anything i got them from my grandma but still i love them both so much and i never want to loose them
Two of my three cats came from shelters (the first one came from an ex - not sure where he got him initially). You're right, this is DEFINITELY the better way to go.
i am totally with you on this one, jill. i got this yellow lab about a year ago. a friend of a friend found him as a stray and knew i had a yard. hes been in a LOT of my videos now lol. i think strays are much more loving and smarter than bred dogs. kinda like they learn lifes tough lessons while theyre on their own, yknow?
Makes me cry, my dog is a rescue dog, and he is one of the best dogs I have ever had. This is why I subscribe to you Jill, you are such a caring person.
I agree with your comment about adopting a rescue animal instead of spendin the large amounts of money for a pedigree. All three of my critters are from rescue and I foster animals on occasion. This past weekend I attended a pet fest just for adoption of animals. There are so many that need a forever home.
Most of the pets I grew up with in our home were/are rescues. I can think of only 1 that we bought for the pedigree. Thanks for trying to get the word out!
I posted a video of our dog and cat that was on the fiveawesomekitties channel. King was saved from a dumpster! And Jack the cat was abandoned by his mom at one month. I adopted him at two months. They are the light of our lives! :)
awe that kitty looked sooo cute!! This is good Jill.. Its good to see people taking care of animals!! =) I wish I could have every animal in the world but I wouldnt have enough room and money to support them all.
although i think that you're doing this for a good cause, i think it's unfair to say you're finding the "cutest" animals. does a 'less cute' animal deserve to be put down over a 'cute one'?
I would understand spending money for a superior pet.... but the vast majority of the pets people spend money are areINFERIOR to a random mix in virtualy wall scales of measurment. some full breeds have attributes which partialy compensate for their imbred defficiencies but most the more expensive ones are neither lovely nor functional... hi Jill, great idea! it is sad how many people still get pets from "pet shops" and breeders when there are sooo many sweeties just waiting to share their love. wonderful way to remember Lucky. drop by sometime! (;

But the shelter experiences made me more aware of my needs and the animals' needs.

its so sad when people just give up on a pet when the pet never gives up on them!
you still have that little bunny? :)
xloonytoonx 3 years ago

What a great idea Jill :)

These are people that really "care" for the well being of your new house guest...not pet
beaveren 3 years ago
This was way past great Jill. I can't stand to see the beautiful animals locked up for nothing they did and more put to death for just being born in this world. When I see the animals like you shown they are so loving and gentle I think wishing for something but not what, maybe someone to take them home would be what they wish for. My away from my apt, not pet apt and travels I can't have an animal but I do miss not being around one.

Very nice idea Jill. I'd actually never had a pet, but If someday I finally decide to have one, I'd definitely looked in a shelter. It's non sense to pay so much money for "pedigree", when there are so many animals that need our help.
zpooky 3 years ago
I think this new series is a great idea. Not only are you doing something that is close to your heart, but it ultimately helps all the animals that are in need of rescuing. My pets have always been adopted and it means so much more than the alternative.
Great job Jill! :-)

I have 3 dogs, one of them we adopted from an animal shelter when she was 8 months old.
My aunt actually rescues dogs that are being mistreated by owners and cares for them herself, so she has like 10 dogs. It's awesome.

I got my cat Lily from this vet office. And a month ago we took in this stray who is an older cat about 7 years old. If we didn't decide to keep him he probably never would have gotten a home because of his age. But he fit right in and found his permanent home at last.

great video. My wife works for our humaine society running a Thrift Store. it is amazing how many people dont care about the animals they own or in there neighborhoods.
mspear1986 3 years ago
That's great. I'm glad your doing this.

I volunteer at the Humane Society here locally and i really dont understand how pedigrees are chosen over these awesome animals.
hope to talk to you soon!

There are so many that need a forever home.

linkless02 3 years ago
although i think that you're doing this for a good cause, i think it's unfair to say you're finding the "cutest" animals. does a 'less cute' animal deserve to be put down over a 'cute one'?

Knowing Jill, I think she would find all animals cute... for simply being animals. To her, animals = cute.
