I saw this film some years ago. Very grim. It became an endurance test to get through it. The cinema was full at the beginning, but almost empty towards the end. Pasolini understood the nature of the well-heeled of society and their desire for oblique titillation and so proceeded to rub their faces in it. Each seemingly gratuitous scene is turned on its head and thrown back at the viewer. And even though I knew how the shit banquet had been made, I still had to suppress the urge to throw up!

@polarbear... No, you didn't get the point. This is not a movie to enjoy. The horrible image of the shit is not for free. You should maybe know more about Italy to understand. NOTHING describes what old and new fascist Italian governments have been doing to this people, better than: making us eat their shit. Italian TV. Italian politicians, and their bitches, The crazy illegal laws they are making. Their enormous supidity, their scandals, their disgusting private stories.

@from2037 And, just to refresh your memory, this WAS the image Pasolini had of Italy back in... 1976, during the rule of the DC, the "anni di piombi", the "strategia della tensione", and the rise of the society of mass consumption which arose from the ashes of WWII. Those reasons which, maybe, caused the death of Pasolini, who was killed after this movie was shot, and maybe BECAUSE of the same movie...
