@drmmr456 I have done that with an axe before. It isn't as hard as it sounds, you may just get a little bit wet. You could always use a chainsaw too (not an electric chainsaw).

Actually it's the Muskie that is considered a deformed kind of pike. I've caught them in Lac Maskinonge in Quebec. Quite the fighters. Mnay sharp teeth! At that lake you couldn't keep them if they were under 27 inches. Any limit where you are? Good luck with the fishing....watch yer toes in summer..... but I guess there'll be still ice where you are, eh? lol

Best technique-Once you start jigging try different jigging rhythms until one works. Start with a 1-2 foot lift and fall rhythm. Adventure has ice fishing cabins on the lake near Widewater which is 10 minutes (by car) from the Slave Lake townsite. I intend to experience this next winter. I know Devonshire Beach has nice soft sand-I think they do have sand castle making competitions in Slave Lake.
