Awesome video I am fighting for the same thing, we really need more people like you around here standing up for what we believe in and to save the orangutans.
@jmifsud12 thank you! but it is not just the orangutans. i use them as an example because they are more widley known than other species that are in danger of this destruction. They are a keystone species and that means when they go extinct, all of the other animals in the peatlands will go too, with little notice.
Also, the rainforests which are being cleared convert millions of tons of CO2 each year to clean air, and when they are gone, the world heats up and contibutes to climate change
@vidaripollen yep. and that is what the companies are worried about... prices... mabye like 5% or less, but having to purchase ingredients that are 5-10% more expensive isnt worth protecting ancient forests with hundreds of endangered species, plants, and people.
@HedgehogGuru price differences may be much more i dont know.but all oils weather crude or coconut r getting expensive.in the long run better to trust ourselves n learn how to make our own snacks at home.ecological, economical n guilt free too.u know any recipes?sesame n chickpea based ones r healthy n can b made into great small bite snack.
Thanks for sharing this video! Just a quick clarification: Cargill is the largest IMPORTER of palm oil into the US but they are not the largest supplier to the US, Wilmar is. Great pics and video!

whats the alternative?coconut oil or what?
vidaripollen 9 months ago
@vidaripollen soybean oil, coconut oil is a possibility, corn oil... Some palm oil is sustainable but that is about 1% of what is on the market...

@vidaripollen I have also seen avacado oil used as a substitute for palm oil in soap.

@vidaripollen it may drive up cost much.
