  • Scotty, how do you change serpentine belts on a 96 nissan pickup?

  • @charmscereal I just answered this in an e mail to you

  • Scotty, is belt dressing no good? I thought you said it was crap to someone, but just wanted to be sure. I've used it on my drivebelt and it stopped the squeaking momentarily, then shortly after I changed out the idler pully which I thought was the issue. It stopped for awhile, then came back though. It's so hard pinpoint exactly where it's coming from because it drives 4 acc. Any advice on snuffing it out? Thanks, Ryan.

  • @rhaydon6784 Yes, it's not good, it actually wears stuff out faster and if too much is put on it can ruin bearings on pulleys. I would put a new belt on first, new belts wear the inside grooves too deep then they make noises even though they look OK. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Ok thanks for the quick response. I just have one more question. I was looking for a video from you on vibration while braking at high speeds and I didn't see one. Everytime I'm on the highway and I have to brake, my car vibrates like crazy. I already replaced a warped rotor, which I thought was the problem, but that didn't work....Do you think it could be out of alignment that's causing it? Ryan

  • @rhaydon6784 you have to replace rotors and brake pads together in sets of two. Start there, then check worn front end parts if that doesn't do it. Scotty

  • my belt only squeeks when i start it in the morning or like everytime i start my car, but it disappears over tiem when im driving it... and i jsut changed my belt a few months ago... so what seam to be the problem scott? pls help

  • @cavanfamily12345 tighten the belt, or replace the auto adjuster if it has one. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer: thanks that helped, now this may be silly but can u do another video on how check and fix a problem like mine or something similar thank you

  • Yeah quick question I changed my belts and there is still squeaking every time i start the car every once and awhile is there any lube or spray I need I have an 04 mitsu eclipse

  • @Snakecharmer21xx NO, never use that crap. Either one belt is not tight enough, or the pulleys they drive have a problem, like worn alternator bearings. Scotty

  • I just answered my own question. For antone who wants one of those belt gauges you can go to gates.com and order one and they are free.

  • Hey Scotty, where did you get your belt gauge ? Thank s for the great videos.

  • i know you dont work on Daewoos but the Chevy Aveo would be the same way since its the same engine my Daewoo has 3 belts it has the Drive belt the Serpentine belt and of course the Timing Belt so my question is what would the Drive Belt run compared to the Serpentine belt and if you have ever worked on a chevy aveo you would know that none of the belt are visable so how would u know if it need replacing?

  • I never worked on either of those models so I can't say. But you would have to access the belt and see if it was cracking on the drive side. Scotty Kilmer

  • say you were driving and this belt was to break would it cause serious damage to the car? would the car still run or would it stall out?

  • It would still run, but of course the alternator and water pump would not work, so you couldn't go far before the engine would overheat and you'd run out of electricity. Scotty Kilmer

  • well it would take power from the battery then wouldnt it? then once the batterys dead the car will stall? so if it broke i could still drive it so i can safely pull over?

  • As long as it didn't overheat. Scotty Kilmer

  • our impala the drive belt has cracks but it doesnt squeal so should it be replaced anyway?

  • Yes, if it's cracked, it's time to change it. Scotty

  • Hey Scotty,

    How's Wyeth doing?

  • He's now a Chief Engineer in the 101st airborne and is going back to Afghanistan in April. Scotty Kilmer

  • Congratulations Scotty! Safe returns for Wyeth!

  • Screamin' Eagles!

  • Is that your personal Celica ST?

I had a 5th gen GT in the same color....GREAT CAR...went to 200K miles when I sold it. Current owner loves it as well.

  • Well, it's close to being mine. I just got it for my oldest son, as he didn't want the 94 ST I now drive which I got from an old customer. He had to have a 5 speed, didn't want anything else. Scotty Kilmer

  • I got mine free from a Gates belt representative. If you contact Gates I'm sure they'd either send you one or sell you one, they couldn't cost much, they are just plastic small gauges. Scotty Kilmer
