  • So beautiful and elegant video ! I hope you will others readings of Kerouac. Caroline-Christa

  • wow, i have not even pulled up this video in quite a while...my brother and i made it on a lark one night! it makes me laugh how back-slapping wads take so much time to comment on the black suit! enjoy your bitterness...i'll keep reading..and the "echo", lordy lordy! end of the world!

  • This mattered to me much when I was young. I was tying to find it. I don't think I ever did, maybe for a year or two. Next to death, though, the search seems useless. I guess Camus is more right than Keroauc. Life is just the Absurd and the Absurd is the death of reason thus the death of the search. Kerouac is the middle part of thought. Camus is the ending and the truth.

  • You go on to acknowledge we ridicule each other without even knowing each other other and how sad that is.

It would be sad if we weren't (on the inside) giant piles of (gurgling) shit wandering around waiting for someone who really understands us. Until then, throw your bombs, drink your bourbon and go to school because your teachers and parents (and you) really care. And so do I.

  • @holden1787 I never said being intelligent was a bad thing, I personally think that society should strive for a more intelligent enlightened age. It's a very sad thing that people think that their ignorance is worth as much as intelligence. Not only in America, as you ignorantly stated - I'm Scottish, but across the globe its a problem. However going around acting like your holier than thou and the gate keeper to what people can do? Go. Fuck. Yourself. You pretentious asshole.

  • @bullettoothburrows Listen, we're living in the 2nd dark age; there are no French Philosophes, no enlightened age---and Voltaire is dead you stupid bitch. I'd rather be an American pretentious asshole than spelling the word "too" for "to" (even though you removed the comment I have in my email) you filthy Scottish fish cunt.

  • @holden1787 What!? What comment? Post it then. You're getting made again, just being a pretentious knob spouting of how many french philosophers you know. It's embarrassing. You're not involved in any of the intellectual circles you want to be involved in so you come on youtube and bring the French enlightenment up where it has no place, just so you can let people know. It's not impressive. It's basic, its rudimentary. Also, ending an sentence that was concerned with the lack of -

  • @bullettoothburrows Hey look, I think the French Enlightenment was a bunch of bullshit, along with the English Victorians, or even worse, that English welfare whore JK Rowlings. Awful awful writer. I'd rather swallow the bullshit of CS Lewis, Christian jackass apologist prick. Ugh.

  • @bullettoothburrows You say my understanding of the French is basic, but it was okay when you invoked Latin rather than just say the same in plain English. Funny, isn't it? Oh go on, admit it: you work full-time, your education amounted to shit, you haven't been laid in years. Fetch said your boss, and so you did.

  • @holden1787 Read your comments back they don't make any sense; and when they do they're just more references to literary works that have nothing to do with what was even being discussed. The fact that you find the use of the words "non sequitur" and "troglodyte" as pretentious is indicative of you're moronic masquerade. Get ready for some big words now, I find all the use of your bizarre metaphors as a sign of you're unrefined blatant stupidity. You and your opinions are so banal-

  • @bullettoothburrows I never heard of William Blake nor have I read any of the big words you use like banal or ubiquitous or compos mentis. Wow you are very smart. How did you learn so much---you sound so refined and intelligent. Teach me, bitch.

  • @holden1787 - and ubiquitous. I honestly think - here it comes - that you are not compos mentis. You're fractious and capricious - look them up, you dont know what they mean - and you are ultimately pathetic. You sound like a frustrated undergrad who sits at the back of the class noting down what all the 'smart' people are saying, then comes on youtube and regurgitates it to people who don't care and aren't listening. Also, in tribute to you here's a random poets name. William Blake.

  • @bullettoothburrows Yes, you're right, almost. I was an undergraduate who failed out of college partly for sitting in the back of the class asleep and partly for not being able to employ words like troglodyte in my essays and research papers, for all I ever wanted was to play golf in puffy checkered pants and smoke my pipe and have hot tea with a smidgen of honey sipped whilst online posing as an intellectual snob. Oh please teach me everything you know, filthy fish cunt.

  • @bullettoothburrows 1. You work full-time and hate your job. Your education is not utilized at all, and that makes you bitter but also sad. 2. You're single and passed through your entire basic education without having cupped a firm healthy tit, lay a nipple in your mouth, tickle one with your tongue. You watch strangers pass with beautiful women tucked under their arms and ask yourself what "they" have over you. Your sad secret is that you stare into the mirror and know why.

  • @holden1787 Yeah, I guess you're right.

  • @bullettoothburrows Okay, let's go back to the beginning then. My assertion was that the jackass in the video clearly appears to be more interested in the (cliche) presentation of Kerouac's work than he was his words, which simply require reading without emphasis on "sounding" poetical. I based my claim on the echo he uses on his voice and the way he dresses in all black as he sips wine in his black/white-washed film, hip-like. Ugh.

  • @holden1787 I don't even know who Jack Kerouac is.

  • @bullettoothburrows ...that if he the jackass had one iota of knowledge about Kerouac all that stuff is all unnecessary.Even Ginsberg and Corso who appreciated reading their own work with a poetic flare would choke to death having to watch the jackass make a mockery out of the Beat Generation. Now if you'd like to chat about Kerouac's "mad road" we can do that. You go first: What do you make of it?

  • @bullettoothburrows You're calling me a pretentious snob while you throw around the word, "troglodyte." Now holy shit that's even funnier than watching the video here of the stupid bastard reading Kerouac with echo on his voice. "Mad road...." LMAO so hard a little shit dribbled out my ass and down my right pant leg.

  • @holden1787 Intelligent thought with "you stupid bitch" and ending the comment with "you filthy Scottish fish cunt" - whatever the fuck that means - is indicative of the the fact that you are pretentious, barely know what you are talking about, google everything for your banal interpretations of literary works, and are a knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, troglodyte. Fuck off and tell you're mum about all the "kewl" stuff you read about Flaubert on the internet today you ass.

  • It's amazing how in America if you speak intelligently on a subject people instantly call you a pretentious knob and if that intelligence is put online you'll be accused of googling it. But the second you present humility about your intelligence others will give swear their love and honor and tell others what a "real" person you are. Funny how that sort of judgment is not pretentious.

  • I know nothing about Kerouac, eh? Please, let's get on with things. What do you know about Kerouac's relationship with Ginsberg? Hurry, go look it up online, go google your cock off. Figger it out, hurry, you don't wanna look stupid you filthy fish cunt you. Go go, tell me why you won't answer my question, tell me why I think this black cloaked cocksucker in the video defames the integrity of the Kerouac legacy. The glass of wine I'd pour in his left ear. Cunts I tell you, cunts.

  • @holden1787 Huh. How wonderfully poetic and intelligent. I'm sure you and Kerouac would have got along greatly... We're not talking about Ginsberg here, we're talking about Kerouac. Not that's you'd know anything about them. Probably don't even know who Walt Whitman is. Please, tell me, what was Walt Whitman and Ginsbergs literary relationship? Happy googling! Because me bringing up Whitman in this, is as non sequitur as you bringing up Ginsberg. You really are a pretentious little hipster.

  • @bullettoothburrows Consider John F. Kennedy's invite to Robert Frost to read his little shitty poem at Kennedy's Inauguration. Ginsberg's Howl is in my mind the final stage in the evolution of poetry used as an instrument for the destruction of the old method borne out of Chaucer, Shakespeare, The Romantics, straight up until the time of Whitman. Whitman, for all he destroys the old poetry can't escape the patriotic fanaticism.

  • Comment removed

  • @bullettoothburrows I think there is, then, a literary divide as much as there is a literary relationship. And oh yeah I know Latin too. Learned "non sequitur" in high school along with Veni Vidi Vici and Cogito Ergo Sum shit. And I'd never rely on Google for what I know. It's as Whitman said, Do not take things at first or second hand, nor look thru the eyes of the dead. Do not look thru my eyes either, nor take things from me. You shall look at all sides and filter them from yourself.

  • @bullettoothburrows (1 of 3) Well, Whitman wrote Song Of Myself, which is indisputably the barbaric yawp of free verse spawned right out of Leaves Of Grass. It's parallel, or more specifically, its genius---poetically but also its social and political contextualizations, open up the floodgates of language to the masses---that is, language in its accessibility, what Ginsberg referred to as "prosody," the mimicking of the commonplace thru suggestion, tonality, rhythm, without poetic restraint...

  • Show me your writing, your original work---an excerpt, you filthy fish cunt, you.

  • Kerouac wore lumberjack flannel, not black you wear. It's two years later, and you still sound terrible, more terrible to my ears. And I'm still anxious to hear your OWN writing, your own words. Enough echo, enough reading and drinking your fake wine in your black and white hole swankhouse. Show me what you got, silly boy.

  • echo

  • the echo ruins it

  • The garage door in the background......I like it :) Nevermind the echo , the sincerity of your reading has come through. well done

  • yeah this kinda was done pretty poorly, and in poor taste.

i get what you were going for..

    i didn't care for it.

  • Read poorly - the audio mixing is poor - the video is cool looking though.

    Bad video.

  • Silly Boy Blues

  • yeah man nice flow, the echo is just off-putting I guess. When it comes to Kerouac, or any beat writings, the words themselves are enough to leave the right impressions.

  • @jimmystorbakken it was a while ago now..i agree though

  • @nealcassady13 touche, but I have to confess I just recently came across Jack Kerouac and his works. I read Dharma Bums first about 6 months ago and've been into his work ever since.

  • c'mon, Johnny Depp did this before so much better... I'm sorry man, but it's not right

  • I really like this reading, i think you do the poem justice, i wonder how many of the haters acually understand what Kerouac meant in any of his poems... good work...

  • its fuckin deep! good job!

  • I really like your video, some friends and I watched it at uni the other day and found it to be throughly enjoyable. Ignore the haters.

  • @madmonk1691 Kerouac lived with his mother for a long, long time.

  • Comment removed

  • use reverb, not delay

  • good to know, thanks.

  • no offense but it's kind of annoying that your video is the first thing that pops up when I type in "Neal Cassady and Jack Kerouac"

  • I mean this with no disrespect- don't try so hard- write poetry- make a video- but don't do the echo mic shit with you in the dark in your dark clothes drinking wine trying to be it.

  • ok...i can hear that,,thanks

  • I apologize for being so blunt

  • I want the reader in the film to wear my shit as a moustache for Halloween.

  • I like it

  • i search "neal cassady" and this pops up. for christ's sake can't you delete this smut already?? i'm almost tempted to offer you money to take it down. you offer nothing to the art world with it. and you didn't even have the balls to showcase your writing because you either don't have any or it's all schtick, like your cheap attempt at a reading. Best bet: throw yourself from a cliff. Be something.

  • hahaha:)

  • how embarrassing

  • Comment removed

  • man what do ya think ol jacky keroacky would think about all these ppl watchin life on a 3 by 6 inch digital screen..lol

  • amen

  • i hear ya...but this isnt my life. jack is ever-influencing...this was just a way for me to show people some kerouac that may have never otherwise come across him. if one person picks up visions of neal (cody) or on the road.....

  • hey man, that was filmed in a garage (not a swank home) and i was homeless at the time..living in a park, so my nose was most certainly 'up against the grass' thanks for watching though. zoooom

  • I have to agree. But it is kinda good, in a awareness of him kinda way.

  • It's kinda not good.

The first thing the dope in the video does is casually take a swig from his glass, which Kerouac never did on camera. The dope is 'trying' to be hip, mixing up Kerouac with Bukowski. Show me a writing sample from this dope, something that can't be contrived.

The dope in the video has not clue that Kerouac hated impersonators.. In his letters, he slams the door at a bunch of punks who show up uninvited wearing jean jackets with "Dharma Bum" on them. Grow up, dope.

  • alright, apparently this intrigues you enough to comment again, which makes me happy. ill post writing of mine if you'd really be interested.., and once again, this was not an impersonation..i have been inspired by jack for years, this was a tribute, not me in dharma bums jacket (ive read them all too) jack paid tribute to his favorite authors constantly...its a thank you, im sorry if you're offended, its just a reading

  • Jesus you could moan for man, go roll your bones alone and come back and see if this dude isn't just showing the same enthusiasm for life that jack showed. In case you hadn't noticed, Kerouac is dead, theres no-one here to try to impress.

  • LOL, you poor, sour little man.

  • ive actually put some thought to posting something..but why...no matter what is posted you will still be you..man or woman

  • Not true at all. If your writing kicks ass in my opinion I'll say so. If it's okay I'll say so, and the same if it's shit. I'm expecting shit, but I could be wrongt. Rise above the video, let's see what you got.

  • hoping to share some of what i got from jack....thats all i was attempting..thanks

  • @holden1787 It a guy, who enjoys Kerouac's work, just making a tribute video. It's not defamatory, and it in no way devalues the text. They will still be here after you watch this video. Plus, Who are you to talk about him? What do you know? Seems you have only read a wiki article and now run around with a fat pretentious hard on busting your way onto the comments section of peoples videos and pontificating arrogantly about someone who would have hated you. He would have hated you, you phony.

  • @bullettoothburrows You cunt, you. Listen you jackass wanna-be Burroughs who shot his wife in the head William Tell-style. You know nothing, nothing. Give me your address right now and tell me whether you sleep on your stomach or your side or on your back---supine. I want to sneak in your bedroom while your mommy sleeps, tiptoe across your bedroom, stand tippytoe on your bed unroll my pants, and shit on your forehead ideally. But again, I need to know how you sleep, bitch.

  • @bullettoothburrows I responded only one hour after your original post. I assure you I do not need Google for information I put out there. I know it, you know it, and anyone reading our exchange from the beginning knows it. Still, it's interesting how we live in a world where Google has become the unquestioned God of information, the collective brain with its single output, shit. For your punishment, I want to shit on the back of your neck while you sleep.

  • @holden1787 Hmm. Yes, this could go on forever couldn't it. But I don't think anyone really thinks you know it, they just think your a pretentious knob who is very good at using google to look intelligent, as you've had years of practice. It's weird. Here we are insulting each other, and we know nothing of each other. Sad really.

  • thanks for getting it

  • no problem.

  • @nealcassady13 Keep up the work man.

  • The joy illuminated in me was lit by this reading. I guess I'm just euphoric at the moment. Very nice, very impressed. Good to see another Kerouac fan.

  • This is great. I really should get around to reading Visions of Cody.

  • its one of jacks best..kind of random, but definitly worth it...real conversations taped...

  • Wonderful, I can dig it man.

  • well done man, it's good to know I'm not the last beat wannabe alive.

  • nice to see a Kerouac fan share with the world.....but im drinkiing and these sounds are makeing me dizzy

  • whoo-hoo! 1000 views! thanks!

  • YAYYYYYYY!! YOURE SO VERY WELCOME.

......"Jazz killed itself but dont let poetry kill itself..." -Jack Kerouac.
